Description: "Was right behind a BIG stack on Great Western Highway at Mt Druitt today. The right turn bay into Bunnings had started backing up onto the through lanes. The driver of the blue car changed lanes at the last minute and clipped a car in the lane next to it. It then rode up on the side of a car stopped in the right lane and flipped over. Only a few cuts and bruises from all involved, fortunately. "

@@dashingdave2665 The correct quote is not remembered, but, a bloke by the name of Ron Finemore, back in the 1970's said something along the lines of: "If someone runs up your backside, it is not your fault, unless you had no brakelights when braking. However, if you run up someone's backside, expect hell from the people in front, and from me!!!" There was also another said to me: Your vehicle is not to touch another vehicle whilst you are in charge of it. This means, you shall drive in a safe manner. Let others around you know what you are doing and intending to do. Indicate early and seek permission from the driver behind if you are diverging to another lane. Wave a thank you to them after completing the lane change. Hand signal if you need to stop in a hurry, as you apply your brakes or prior to. Be prepared to yield to other drivers who may not be technically competent to be on the road. Know the rules of the road for each jurisdiction that you drive in, as the blighters do vary between jurisdictions! Be in positive control of your vehicle at all times. This means using the gears descending hills; stay off the brakes; use the parking brake at extended stops and for stop signs. Do not use your phone or other electronic devices when driving, but use the UHF for traffic and road conditions sparingly. But, most important: EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!!!!

@tangomike15
@tangomike15 3 жыл бұрын
Two fundamental errors I see on the road every day is (1) people not checking their blind spot and (2) people not indicating when changing lanes. You should always indicate, even when you are sure there is no vehicle close to you, because the day will come when you are wrong and there is someone in your blind spot. At least by indicating you give them a fighting chance to take evasive action when you change without checking. Also, motorbikes come up really fast. You might not see them, but they will see your indicator if they are alert. I was recently almost sandwiched between two semis. I noticed the one semi indicating to turn into my lane and that got my attention.....I was right next to him and realised he might not be aware that I was there. I then noticed him actually starting to change lane and I was able to brake and evade a catastrophe. I couldn’t accelerate out of the problem as there was a vehicle in front of me. My point is: always indicate.

The red car in the middle lane accelerated massively in the last few seconds before the crash. The blue car would've expected their left to still be clear, and wouldn't have had time to check again before swerving to avoid the car stopping suddenly in front. However swerving is not the right thing to do unless you're 100% sure it's safe. You're right, the blue car should've tried to stop, not change lanes. But I can understand why they thought their left was clear.
@wasddasw6485
@wasddasw6485 3 жыл бұрын
@@ianhinson2829 Red car did accelerate a lot but the blue car did not signal their intent to turn until they started turning. The blue car saw the hazard in front judging by the brake lights coming on at 0:14 but decided to swerve anyway at 0:16 despite the lack of space in front of the red car. There was no sudden stop in front of the blue car. The cars were queued for the right turn as seen when the camera car pulled over. NSW road rules say you must "give sufficient warning" before you change lanes - signalling for less than 1 second was not sufficient warning. The blue car was completely at fault and the blame cannot be pinned on any other drivers. The blue car's correct action would have been to: 1)actually use their brakes while approaching the stopped cars instead of just resting their foot on the pedal for 2 seconds; and 2)use their turn signal earlier. If the driver of the blue car cannot see the 5+ stopped cars in front of them, they should turn in their license and apply for a vision disability.
@TheRedParallel
@TheRedParallel 3 жыл бұрын
An important lesson here is the red car (not to blame) sped up last second to get ahead of the blue car as soon as they put their indicator. Probably to avoid being cut off last second. The blue car was definitely a moron for cutting lanes last second, but the red car could’ve avoided the whole situation if they just slowed down instead of speeding up. Always be aware of potential hazards in front of you - especially if there is a reason that a car might suddenly cut in front of you like this.

The red wagon must bear some responsibility too. If he was situationally aware he could see that the Yaris was approaching stopped traffic too quickly and it's likely they would either brake heavily, or swerve left to aviod a rear ender, so instead of braking himself or moving into left lane, he accelarates considerably in an attempt to get ahead of the situtation he could see coming. Part of being a good driver is to anticipate the mistakes that other drivers make everyday, and to adjust your driving to avoid those mistakes escalating as they did in this instance. As annoying as other drivers behaviour may be you cannot let it get to you. Everyone has made mistakes on the roads.

The driver of the red vehicle accelerated soon as the blue driver started indicating so as to prevent the blue driver from getting infront. So while the blue vehicle driver holds the responsibility of failing to give way when changing lanes, he could have performed the lane change successfully if the red vehicle driver wasn't such a dick and obstructed the lane change by accerating and breaking the speed limit just because they needed to be in front.

Although it wasn't his fault, the red Mazda wagon could easily have prevented this accident by driving more defensively. He knew there was a chance of the grey Toyota pulling out in front of him, hence at 0:15 he sped up to sit next to the vehicle and block it from entering his lane. The Yaris wouldn't be expecting the Mazda to suddenly accelerate and pull up alongside him suddenly, so when he swerved into the lane, a collision occurred. This was preventable on two accounts.

It is either accelerating because hit does not want a slower vehicle in front or it is trying to get ahead so the other vehicle has clear road to merge behind , only the driver knows. 6: Driver of blue vehicle is not aware of their surroundings and suddenly tries to merge with the center lane. 7: Probably a female drive which would explain the lack of spatial awareness.

Although that may be possible, I don't think so. We will never know for sure so I don't think it's fair to just say that. What is 100% clear though is they were completely unaware of the car coming up behind and a driver should always be aware of any vehicles around them as i'm sure you know. They then also sharply turn left without indicating or given any clue at all as to what they were about to do. I think it is more likely the cars in front of the Yaris were slowing and the Yaris driver thought they would just do a quick whip around them to get in front as a split second decision. It looks like in the video the red car is directly along side the red car so the Yaris driver didn't even bother to glance out the window never mind be aware of their mirrors. I peronally think this person was solely focused on the car in front and nothing else. If they was on the phone they wouldn't be trying to get in front they would just lag behind focusing on their phone and getting in front wouldn't be on their mind.

Working in traffic control, I can tell you, the biggest issue drivers have is never indicating. Major intersections, in roadworks, doesn't matter, 19/20 people do not indicate. Had a shuttle flow across a bridge, where I had control of people turning left from where I was sending people over the bridge. 12 hour nightshift. All people had to do, was approach with, or put on their indicator AT ALL, while sitting at my stop bat, and I would let them turn, why make them wait for the traffic coming across, or for the crane moving barriers 5-10 minutes at a time, when I could just let them go, right? All night, literally 10-12 hours, almost every car would sit there, for 5-10 minutes, no indicator. and most of those times, they would start hurling abuse "I JUST WANT TO FUCKING TURN LEFT, WHY ARE YOU HOLDING ME CUNT!?", to which I would hurl similar abuse at them about not having an indicator on the entire 5-10 minutes they were sitting in front of me. Traffic Control is a good industry to get into to kill your hope in humanity..

Drives me insane how many people just don't indicate! I mean, it's really not hard! Or people that indicate AFTER THEY HAVE TURNED! Like, what's that supposed to achieve?

Don't forget people who only indicate when they're already midway into changing lanes or 0.5 seconds before turning.

I'm the driver of the dash cam car. One of the strange things I didn't realise at the time is that the radio of the Yaris got ejected in the crash - you can see it lying behind and to the right of the red station wagon at the end. I just thought it was some piece of unrelated junk that you see from time to time strewn on the roads.

@RonnyDonny13 1. No, but the guy in the Commodore had his dog escape and run away towards the servos which sucks. 2. No, there were two women in the ute and they ran to help the people in the car. The driver saw the car flip in the rear vision mirror so they knew something bad had happened. 3. No, they didn't speed up. They only maintained their speed. It only looks like that because I slowed and changed lanes after sighting the banked up traffic.

Didn’t help that the middle car SAW what was going to happen and sped up

An accident like this where there is clear dashcam footage of who's at fault should see the offending driver lose their license two years, no ifs or buts.

Remember, getting into a vehicle and driving on the road is the same as going to war. Stay alert at all times, keep checking your mirrors, keep your wits about you and don't make stupid irrational moves and mainly keep your self and others safe.
