To get rid of seam-lines: Take a note from gundam models! Make it an actual seam-line, a groove. Then make the large flat connecting surface slightly recessed. That way the shrinkage will be hidden in the recessed hole, and the outer seam will look like the edge of armor that we can panel line and drybrush/edge highlight! This will also let it print much better even on printers that aren´t perfectly calibrated.
@DFloyd843 ай бұрын
Another piece of advice for 3D print designers: consider how the model will be supported for printing. While you can slather every surface with fine detail, support points will obliterate any detail they go through. Multipart models with plain joining surfaces are better in my opinion since you can stick the supports on those and not lose anything.

I’ve always been a huge proponent of 3D printing. In fact I commented on one of your videos a little while back stating that I preferred using a 3D printer to buying physical minis and was met with a pointed response. The way 3D printers have evolved makes them a really valid option for building armies and with so many different 3D model creators giving us so many great designs it’s really a no brainer.

6:09 It is recommended to remove supports BEFORE curing, not AFTER. As shown here, there are wet and possibly uncured sections that are exposed when these supports are removed. The UV light was unable to cure it. Additionally, supports are easier to remove and cause less scars/damage to a model when you remove the supports BEFORE curing.

I did a Space Bears Audio Drama. Wanted to hint at other factions but didn't know if you had any plans. Had some characters refer to Squids. Might do a story with the Divers and have Squids be a term the bears refer to them as. Or maybe the Divers and control Squids. Definitely looking at the other factions list for story ideas.
@xthetenth3 ай бұрын
For the guns in the turrets, you might want to put a slight pyramid profile on the guns and matching indents in the hollows for them, which would give some self-centering action. For the seam between the halves, you might want to recess the profile of the smaller rear half into the front half a bit with the outer plates giving a bit of overlap.

It might be just the thing that saves you, but I truly cannot afford the huge expense as well as the learning curve for this new way of creating mini’s to paint or play with. I am still working on the kit that I got from Neil over on Real Terrain Hobbies! I wish you and all of your followers the best as you explore the new realms of creating your own mini’s with the 3D printer boom!

One thing that would help get everything to seat in a very specific orientation is to use tapered mating surfaces and have a bit of clearance in the depth for the female side - then that tank gun can just be pushed in as far as it will go and that taper takes up any variation in the fit, so it will always want to lock to pointing squarely forward, and as long as all the parts are from the same batches every one should look perfectly identical. That said I'd not actually want that in this case myself - being able to glue things square is fine, but there are plenty of times you want some variety for visual interest, and guns shouldn't be fixed in respect to their turret anyway, no elevation control means your doomed if your opponent finds a small hill to park on etc. Another trick to get a good repeatable look for things like that tank hull joint can be seen in common use on injection moulded consumer product cases - easy one most of us will have to look at is taking the back off your video game controller - the way one part lips inside the others leaving a small but deliberate seam can hide quite a bit of error.
@Sarados19803 ай бұрын
Nice to see tht TtT will go one, you are one of my favorite hobby channels. Tips for the models: - before removing the supports, put the model into hot tap water for a few seconds. The supports will go of easy and leave almost no support marks - For the connection part, maybe add some panels which lay over the "connection line", so they hide part of it and break up the straight line downwards. - maybe add pre-done cutouts for magnets, puppetswear has it on some models and it's amazing! Also one thing I really hate at tank models is this "one big body to print", I prefer having sub-parts (top, side, bottom, like in model kits). Why? faster to print (especially if you manage to make them be able to lay flat on the print bed), if there is a print error you don't waste so much resin, easier to print (less supports etc.) and easier to customize). As a bonus the model is lighter (even if you hollow the "block) and you have space for some LED tech^^. Maybe something to consider. :)

If possible, I'd recommend a couple of options for the snowmobile. Have the steering portion adjustable so that it can be posed in dramatic skids or jumps. Maybe a spare out stretched arm that could have the rider leaning to the side to swipe with club or chainsword as they run down foes.

For that flatbed tank seam-line - i would take inspiration from flatbed trucks make a visible gap, add some bolting in the interior of the bed to make it seem like the bed is interchangeable with different parts.

Its crazy. Yesterday I commented on a persons Facebook comment about how most channels that do terrain crafting from scratch are dying out on KZbin because 3D printing is becoming more and more accessible. Your channel came up in the conversation. I wake up today and BAM!! ..... a 3D printing could save our channel video pops up. Pretty much confirming the trend I have been witnessing over the last few years on this platform. Just like how the number of miniature painter channels have exploded over the last few years. Everything is becoming cheaper for the average consumer. Best of luck!!!

If you guys got partners to print some of your new projects, like Only Games for on demand printing, or Wargames Atlantic for a plastic release, I'd be really interested in what you have coming. I don't have a 3D printer, and I have no plans to buy one for a long time, so if projects like the space bears could be available officially in resin or plastic via a partner, that'd open things up for more hobbyists like myself to support you!

I'm loving the space bears they look amazing, but one little nit pick thing for me personally is the track for the snowmobile bike, it looks very thin I understand it is meant to be a replacement for a bike but a track that narrow I feel would just dig into the snow and get it stuck and maybe put some kind of support strut even on one side of the back tire to look like it is supporting and driving it. Again this is a personal opinion and as a whole I love the range and can't wait to see more cool mini's and projects from you guys. :)

Second what other people have said. The trick to part gaps with resin is to design around them. Know how, roughly, you'll need to slice the thing from the beginning and design the vehicle/figure such that there are design elements that hide the joining and inevitable mismatch.

It might be a good idea to get the track on the snow mobile widened by a considerable amount. The track is what the sled uses to get power to the ground. To my eye it looks very slow due to how narrow it is. It looked like there is plenty of room under it to almost double the existing size of the track. it would make it look so badass then. Really awesome models otherwise. Just my $0.02.
