In this video I talk about how the 4 day work week and here's what happened...it changed my life. I have been struggling to manage my work life balance and needed to manage my work schedule better, so I decided to try the 4 day work week. The benefits of a 4 day work week included increased productivity, improved focus, and overall higher levels of efficient work. shortening my work schedule into a 4 day work week really changed my life in that it helped me be more productive in my work, and allowed me to rest and recover so that I was more efficient in my work the following week after a longer weekend. I hope you like the video!
Have a great week guys! Cheers.

I work 4 10-hour days and it's great. I took a pay cut to keep this schedule as it really is life-affirming.

@@christophergomez2584 roughly 12-15k in overtime would be lost for me but you cant buy more time at the end of your life. I dont get upset or have those days i just dont want to work anymore. I feel like i have enough time to pursue my interest that my life is more in balance now. My body has plenty of time to rest and i have a free day each week to take care of appointments and such without harming my job/using personal time lost wages etc. Our retention rate is higher as well because people dont get penalized for attendance due to the free day for errands and the ones that do dont want to make it work if they cant make it to work 4 days a week.

@@christophergomez2584 I also know of companies with a high workload/stress environment that have started 36-hour weeks/3 12-hour shifts and they get paid for 40 hours. Amazon does this where I am and a lot of the other distribution centers have done the same.

Great video! I think one of the biggest advantages of a 4 day work week is that it forces you to rewire your mindset. Running and growing a business long term is ideally a marathon and not a constant sprint. A youtube search for "I burned out" will give you boat loads of anecdotes. Restricting that work time really forces you to rethink your priorities. I've seen in my own work that when you restrict hours and don't redirect your priorities, it gets very stressful.

Great Video - my wife's hospital (lab in the hospital) changed their work schedule to 3 days with 12-hour shifts instead of 5 days with 8-hour shifts. They did it to make scheduling easier and many workers complained (and even quit) when it was implemented. Now my wife says she likes the schedule (4 days off) but she is unproductive for 3 of the 12 hours per day vs. being unproductive for only 1 hour of the 8 Hour workdays. With the very long 12-hour shifts - the workers take more breaks and longer breaks so the hospital may have an easier scheduling system but their employees are actually working less during their shifts. I'm pretty sure they did not take this variable into account. Plus, they are in a very competitive market and there is a serious fight for talent - they started out offering $3,000 referral bonuses - then it went to $7K and now it's at $10K for every new hire a worker refers. The employees argue that they should get paid more so they don't keep losing employees and keep having to hire and train new ones (other labs in the market do pay more). I find it pretty interesting.

I wonder if 4 hard work days works better for the same type of people that do well we the 5-2 diets. 2 days of hard fasting and 5 days of normal relaxing diet.
@brometheus6354

I followed a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting (16-8) 3 days a week and found it worked out pretty well with a job where I was in one location with no distractions. When I moved to a different job with the same schedule that had access to snacks via a breakroom it was much harder. The 10-hour days were harder to endure at while fasting with the distraction/temptation.

So... You did a 4.5 day week in the end? I don't really get it. Isn't the idea to work 4 days but work perhaps an hour longer each day, then have 3 full days off?
@MegaCynar
@MegaCynar 2 жыл бұрын
No. That's a compressed work week. A compressed work week is still better than 5 days though. An actual 4 day work week is the same hours in 4 days with no reduction in pay. Studies have shown workers who do this are more productive while having a better work/life balance.

The devil is in the detail. "4 days a week" could mean any number of things. Compressing the same hours into fewer, longer days; or just cutting a day out and doing thing as normal otherwise. This video isn't particularly clear on the numbers. How many hours per day? Sounds like the days were the same length, but you ended up with a half day on Friday. I work for myself from home as a consultant, so track hours against projects. I find, for a 9-5 day, I only record about 6 hours, as I'm not tracking meal and toilet breaks, or time I might spend having a quick chat to someone, collecting the mail, answering a knock at the door, making a cup of tea etc. Have I worked 8 hours, or 6? The Iceland study has some details hidden away in too. They were working a longer than average week in the first place, before lowering the hours. It would help to define the terms so we can make a fair comparison.

I am un-employed and have been for a while but I have been a student off and on for over a decade. I used to do a full course load 4-5 courses per-semester even after I graduated so, there was not much down time I was constantly, on the go. But I decided since, I am getting older it's time to focus a bit less on school and on hobbies. Now, I am only taking between 2-3 courses per-semester from now on so, I can actually, have down time. Also, having OCD, anxiety, and depression makes it hard for me to turn off so, I try and get a few assignments done per-week. I sometimes will go a bit over at the beginning of the week because that is when, I have the most energy compared to the end of the week.

Even in the west there are enough people who wouldn’t be able to reduce their work days or hours, because this would mean homelessness for them. I don’t think that people realise how privileged (and far from reality) they are when they advice such things.

@@nsrdn. In my instance its the same hours as working a 5 day week its just reformatted to be done in 4 days by adding 2 hours to each day. The money is the same. I mentioned above a "pay cut" i took to keep that and by that i meant the overtime but I used to work 6-7days 12 hour shifts 8 to 10 months out of the year (as a union employee no doubt) so i was ready to have a life again.

@@brootalbap This is true. The japanese log the most hours but their efficiency in those places is very low. The US however works very long hours with high efficiency. People arent just milling about waiting for the boss to leave like in some cultures.
