The valuation of the company is more for marketing and drawing in investors than it is an indicator of how well a company is doing, or what their capabilites are. Like yeah these companies got money, they're run by billionaires, but can you build a car well and deliver it consistently? Can you follow up that success? Mazda is worth next to nothing and sells fewer cars than their competitors, but they still spend the money to develop the Miata properly.

From my perspective, being a person who grew up in a smaller town and had always loved and driven trucks, Ford has really made the biggest step for potential customers like me. This is that they have made an EV for truck people, rather than a truck for EV people.

The EV HYPE is so dumb!! The "Build Back Better" has proven to be "Build Back BROKE AF!!". EV's are definitely NOT GREEN!! EV's charging cycles cause Coal and Natural Gas Powerplants to burn excessive amounts of fossil fuels and cause both of them and Nuclear Power Plants to release of excessive amounts of heat into the atmosphere. Ev's cause the Nuclear Plants to use up tons more nuclear rods, thus creating tons of extra radioactive nuclear waste every year. Plus the power factor for 1 gallon of gasoline is 4500. The best Lithium Ion cells can barely scratch into a 900 power factor. The internal Combustion Engine is way more efficient and more "GREEN" than any EV will ever be.

Remember when it comes to stocks there's always a reason. What you witnessed with the Rivan stock, was caused by the Fed saying that they were going to raise interest rates. Only the first stocks to be sold off, are tech-based or more speculative investments. If you have faith in Rivan buy the dip my friend, This is not financial advice.

As a Tesla technician, I really hope other brands pick off. We sell too many cars that techs cant maintain or support. Our market growth is exp. larger than our expansion of service centers, which overloads our work and stresses everyone out, haha. Job security i guess, but it's going to make us EV techs an expensive commodity once Lucid and Rivian hit the market.

@@boblegogamer So, Tesla offers something known as the Start program, which is a stepping stone into the industry and brand. Not the best thing, imo, but if you dont have a solid auto background it might be worth checking it out. That being said, experience currently is going to be your best bet. If you work at a dealer that offers EV cars, ask to do their EV specialized training. Really the most important thing to know is the theories of operation. How does an inverter work, what's on the HV bus, how does supercharging work and so on. A lot of that can be found online, but getting hands on experience might be the best route! Also, refresh your computer knowledge as well, a lot of diagnostics go through reading graphs and events, and being able to navigate more efficiently can help as well!

Hourly at a decent rate, a little hectic in regards to work load and it does feel like the company is a chicken with its head cut off, but your colleauges make up for that. Everyone working within the brand (service side) seems to be super chill and willing to help. I guess thats one advantage of being flat hourly :D

I think it would be great to highlight some smaller American automotive manufacturers, like Devon Motorworks, Carbon Motors, BXR Motors, Trion Supercars, Lyons Motor Car, Falcon Motorsports, Rossion Automotive, and Panoz Automotive Development. These are some companies that have shaped the sports car, super car, or hyper car landscape and I feel that the KZbin audience deserves to know about these brands. It’s not even the markups, the only competition for the rivian is the platinum f150. The lariat is overpriced and xlt trim is the same as the pro trim. I was gonna get xlt, but now I’m just gonna save some money and a pro. I would get a lariat but I’m buying the rivian as well, so I would have 2 luxury trucks.

I was going to order a Lightning, I deliberately waited till the first set of reservations closed because I'm willing to delay delivery. I live by the factory in Illinois and I see R1Ts all of the time. The town is excited as businesses have generally been leaving, like Mitsubishi and State Farm (which is still headquartered here but slowly sending employees elsewhere).

I think both the Rivian and Lucid look really cool, but I still feel like they're only a few steps removed from the concept car stage. They both produced enough copies to get a few into consumer and - more importantly - reviewer hands, but then pulled way back from their delivery promises. I think the car and truck of the year monikers are way premature until they show that they can actually produce vehicles in some sort of meaningful quantities, not to mention being able to support those vehicles once they leave the factory.

I've seen at least 7 different Rivians around where I live, and have seen one Lucid that didn't have a manufacturer's license plate, and while I can't say they have produced the necessary numbers as a whole, right now they are in the hands of more personal owners than you think

Friend of mine works for Rivian, says it's good and they are looking to follow the Ford model with the single chassis multiple body types. So wouldn't be surprised if a wagon or sedan comes out in a year or two.

@@De55808 Rivian's shares were $170 just 2 months ago. Now they are $60, 1/3 of their peak price. Obviously the whole market is down and much of that is because a whole lot of companies with no revenue (or even product) are valued on nothing but promises and many of those with actual product are grossly overvalued. Currently there is a stock market bubble, a housing bubble, a car price bubble. There's a very good chance some of them will pop very soon and make 2008 look like a joke, so I wouldn't suggest going for the "fire sale" just yet.

The whole system works like that. That's not a bubble, almost everything is overvaluated and short-termed. It is a matter of time before a seriously hard hit is made. You can't say that the system works when companies delivering things are less valuable than companies doing the same thing and deliver less of a "fresher" product. If the system works, its in favor of the already rich guys : the one that are able to invest at the really early stages (private investors) and the who will progressively sell their shares after IPO. And then the company fail. Who lost money ? The ones investing in stock market. Who is this ? Hedge funds, working as retirement funds for the middle/lower class. And in between you even have banks who have everyday money of middle/lower class giving them some interest earned on stock market, so even the everyday money of the plebe is in danger with this kind of system because banks, establishments where you DEPOSIT YOUR MONEY can bankrupt and NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY BACK. Oh, and if they don't bankrupt, they charge you when you get your money back.

To be fair though, Rivian is aiming squarely at the outdoorsy demographic with this first round of offerings. The Lightening needs to be able to do proper truck shit, or it'll just be a nifty paragraph in the footnotes of Ford's history books. I use my Sierra for proper truck shit and I'm hopeful that these EVs can meet my needs, but I'll wait to see what others say before I run the experiment myself..

I think the only thing holding workers back is charge speed with range being second. If charge speed took the same amount of time to fill as gas with current capacities, it would **sorta** be a compromise. Once they get charge speed AND range figured out, then it will be a game changer.

Rivian’s perceived value was based on institutional buy-in when their IPO went public. At the time of this comment Rivian is now down nearly 50% of its IPO price, and is STILL overvalued IMO.

Thank you for stating that, I own a farm in rural northern PA, most electric vehicles would not last long here with these roads, and reliability is only half the battle, there is no one remotely close that can work on these things. If I owned a tesla or Rivian, I would be looking at a HUGE towing bill to get it anywhere near close to a dealership or garage capable of repairing them.

And nobody wants to be stuck with one when something goes wrong because their repair network is virtually non existant. That's why they are already starting to clog up the pre owned lots. People are getting out while the gettin's good. They certainly have good marketing though, only reason why they sell.

I'm not a big fan of electric cars (not practical in my life), but the R1T is awesome. Outside of the Hummer EV (I refuse to support GM anymore), it's the only EV I'd actually consider trading my Silverado in for. It has the range to justify the costs and the forest green interior gives me the fizz. I just worry about recharging after a power outage. I will soon have a standby generator, but you can't charge an EV from it. They make charging-capable versions, but they get quite pricy due to the advanced tech to prevent surges and such. If I lose power, I have nowhere else to charge. There is no charging network within an hour's drive of my land. I could theoretically charge at work, but they only have normal household plugs outside for keeping the diesels block heaters running. It'd take forever to recharge like that. Maybe once the infrastructure catches up, I'll look into them as a daily. For now, I can't rely on one enough to replace my V8.

A few things to point out here: BBB is dead and won’t be passed. Tesla has a major major moat in its supercharger network, your EV can be miles better than Tesla but won’t be more utilitarian. Tesla’s latest earnings report shows it is literally shitting gold and with all that money can battle any competitor. Yes, the stock is overvalued (like all EVs) but it is so massively ahead of everyone it’s laughable.

Tesla's earning have been juiced because of the massive recall. The feds allowed them to count those recalled cars as new sales even though they weren't so they are in fact false numbers. The upcoming stock split is Elon manipulating the price as in he is diluting the stock by issueing shares and then that will trigger a split on those shares. That means they are needing cash influx.

🔥 Hot take! Rivian can not compete with Tesla. Rivians marketing itself towards a different crowd than Tesla. Also the fact that Tesla doesn't spend anything on marketing is wild. Rivian is an exciting company that can see a rise in the automotive world similar to Tesla's. The key difference is they'll do it through a different demographic. Look at it like this, the automotive industry is sports. Tesla is like basketball and Rivian is like football, they are both 'sports'. But they cater to different clientele. Fans can support both but there are alot of people who just support their side. Tesla commits ALL it's Capital to technology evolution and that has set them years ahead of any potential competitor. Rivian is not trying to compete with Tesla with technology, they're doing their own thing. That's why they'll succeed

First off Tesla does not commit all it's capital to tech evolution - go read their financials. They are only ahead of the game because no one else was in the game (chevy was a strong contender to take them out years ago but didn't - that is by Elon's own words). Majority of Tesla's funding came from state and federal subsidies (yes people were paying tesla through taxes without knowing) and through the massive sales of carbon credits. That is the only reason they managed to stay alive - all their ventures were burning obscene amounts of money and most still do.

Nolan, I understand it’s your opinion but you are wrong. I would argue the Tesla hvac is easily one of the most underrated/ overlooked things about the car. No vents and knobs was absolutely the right choice and I’ve never once needed to change the settings aside from temp which is always on screen (even change it on screen without interruption of Netflix). The airflow is superior and the design is clean.

Find me one of these electric trucks that can last 20+ years like my 02 Ford F150 4 door Supercrew, hauling boats, trailers, campers, daily use, going cross country, etc.. with very little maintenance beyond the normal in that time frame beside a transmission, in 2020, and yes I'm including the battery which as we have seen with Tesla can cost over 1/2 the value of the car to replace, and at some point might not be able to be replaced because it's part of the frame, then I'll buy into all this electric truck hype.
