How a Charity Dinner Became Fashion’s Biggest Night Out | The Guide to The Met Gala

In this video, we will be looking back at the evolution of the Met Gala to see how a $50 charity dinner in honor of the opening of the annual exhibit as well as garnering support for the newly-founded Costume Institute in 1948 became fondly known as “fashion's biggest night out." This video will break down the three respective eras of the event to the present day.
I will also be covering the top chic looks of the MET GALA 2021 in celebration of the designers behind the attire, icons that provide inspiration to this day, and the themed style captured in ensembles of the attendees. Through this, we will see how prominent figures in the fashion industry and numerous style idols transformed the event into the one we know today as well as the impact it held on fashion being viewed as art with great value in the eyes of many unlike ever before.

This year Met gala was a 👎, but the fashion was disappointed by shame, all of those fashion of the past kind of dated when we watched on in papers of the news even on TV, now social media took notice as well by looking at them when those crowd of people watching on from afar. It just reminds me of the Vanderbilt party back then in the 1870s, before the gala at the MET started it.

I absolutely love this deep dive. Stellar video. All your videos are!!! :) Honestly I was actually very happy about this year's turn out, despite popular opinion. Every Gala has its star moments and I really value the effort and artistry put into each on. That being said, I do have a slight rant to layer in and it has nothing to do with how wonderful your video is. I question the following of the theme for some of the ensembles this year... I can't help but question if Kendall Jenner's portrayal of Audrey Hepburn's dress from My Fair Lady was a true homage to American fashion and subsequently its place in American fashion history. The musical was distinctly a satire on English classism. And while it was an American musical, I still wonder if referencing it was the best interpretation of the theme being "America: a Lexicon of Fashion". I suppose it was a direct tribute to old time Broadway and the American Film Institute as an American produced and funded project. Thematically speaking, it comes across as a reach to me (obviously just my opinion- not fact). If I were to suggest potentially more relevant plays/musicals/films to translate the theme more cohesively, West Side Story would have been a more relevant pick. Perhaps Wizard of Oz? Or the controversial Gone with the Wind, if we are thinking about dresses related to American history themed productions during the Hollywood golden age (granted the film is loaded with socio-political inaccuracies and would be likely to get major social media backlash if highlighted at the Met Gala). Heck, if we really wanted to explore Audrey Hepburn's style, which Kendall cited as her style being the direct inspiration for why she chose the My Fair Lady dress to reference, you can't get more NY than the image of Holly's LBD from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Or, really stretching, the French couture that Audrey wore in Sabrina, which was culturally significant for bringing specific designers (foreign and domestic) in the forefront of Hollywood film productions. All and all, Kendall's dress was BEAUTIFUL and I loved it. Certainly not questioning the craftsmanship or how she looked. But a theme's a theme. Anyway, sorry for the massive comment- Keep up the amazing content!
