The first time I had concha I fell in love with it. Then I started microwaving them for 10 - 12 seconds. BOY it made the texture even more satisfying!

Yeah, as far as I've read conchas were taken back to Hong Kong from Mexico by Chinese immigrants when Mexico initiated anti Chinese policies and the Japanese obtained the process during WW2 when they invaded Hong Kong.

For those that love conchas you should give pineapple buns a chance. The process of making conchas are similar to pineapple buns with putting a layer of the sugar to create its shape. Both taste amazing in their own way.

That's how my grandma made pan ('bon'). She scrubbed her table and measured everything by feel, mixed the ingredientes into a big flour well and then she made the shapes from bolitas. I'd love to go here one day and brunch. Believe it or not, bon is tasty with savory foods as a side dish and yes, we eat bon ("dulce": 'dual say') with hot soup, stew or whatever's for dinner. Bon has a seriously wide array of flavors and they have the more savory fragrant spices in them too. Cardamom, anise, peppercorn.. My grandma made alot of bon in her lifetime. She was raised on a wheat field and helped run the family bakery. Perfect bon. Just bread so delicious it has brought tears to ever-hungry eyes.

I don't know what it is about these, I've never had them, but they press my happy button. I'm going to try making them. I've made Japanese melonpan, very similar technique and the same cute happy vibe. Wrapping cookie dough around bread is such an unusual idea that I'm curious if the two are somehow related or if they appeared independently. Are Mexican sweet breads generally eaten plain, or do you cut them open and put things in them? I've only ever eaten the melonpan plain and warm out of the oven.
@JoliBaePop3 жыл бұрын
You can eat the bread with coffee, milk, or even hot chocolate. Or, if you’d prefer it, just plain haha there is no right way of eating it but my family always ate them by dunking them in milk 😋 It’s however you prefer them 😁
@mawlinzebra2 жыл бұрын
Conchas were first made in the mid 19th century. Melonpan was first made in 1917 by a eastern European chef living in Japan. I don't know exactly but my bet is he was influenced by conchas.
