Why would a militant communist, indoctrinated to hate Christians, become a follower of Jesus? What scientific evidence and personal experiences convinced him to radically change the direction of his life? I am joined for the first time by author and scientist Sy Garte to discuss his story and new book on the intersection of science and faith.

My mom sang Christmas Carols to me in the womb and in 3rd grade age 8 they showed movies of the Nazi holocaust and played at being a just Nazi judge. My friend also reported playing holocaust. I fantasized about playing dead. So billy graham scared me into believing in my ideas of Jesus. That is He suffers with us. Psych meds took that from me. But I had already made it to the Blessed Trinity. So now I'm going back and trying to start from atheism and adding Jesus to my atheist friends.

I grew up attending a German Lutheran church, never baptized. I stopped attending church in my early teens. Fast-forward to Nov. 2018, still not attending church and diagnosed with lung cancer. Dec. 2018, I was baptized, attending church and leaning in on God. I've always known that God is our creator and father. Apr. 2019, after 6 rounds of hard chemo for lung cancer, my body couldn't take it, God and I knew my body was dying, but not my will to live. May 2019, my second opinion oncologist found that I have stage 4 medulary thyroid cancer and not lung cancer. Long story shory... during this time, I felt and knew God was with me and taking care of me. 5 years after entering into a clinical trial for a very rare form of thyroid cancer I'm a cancer thriver and not cured., My current oncologist tells me that I'm a miracle with a spiritual journey to share with others. My large team of doctors are from different parts of the world and are all Christians... God's grace.

I was an unchurched agnostic for almost 27 years. As a pre-med major in school, I was always searching for truth within science -- questioning everything. Mercifully, God kept me alive long enough so I could find Truth in Jesus. Parenthetically, I grew up in the Midwest yet didn't hear John 3:16 until I was 19, nor hear Amazing Grace until I was 22. God is so good and great and merciful. Thank you, Lord.

Being born in Yugoslavia in 1953 i was brought up, as everybody else, an atheist. I started searching in my 30s and tried everything, but it meant nothing to me. Then i wanted to see what the Bible was all about and found a Bible study in Singapore, where we lived at the time. I invited Jesus in my heart as my Lord and Saviour in the last week of Dec 1989, 6 months pregnant with my second child. From then on i could write a book about all the things God did in my life, starting with a peace which surpasses human understanding, according to Paul, followed by the signs from God, healings and revelations and visions, and the miraculous delivery of my son by an angel. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am only sorry i didn't find Jesus earlier. Glory to God.

I fully agree with him in his closing statement. We definitely need more Christians in fields of science, like there used to be in the old days. Get rid of that lie that you have to choose between "religion" or science, and hold onto the belief that Christian scientists of old held: Science is a way in which you can worship God, through observing His creation.

Absolutely correct there is ZERO conflict between Science and God!! I went to Physics classes with Dr. Stephen Meyer at Whitworth College and I have always been a Christian from a young age but I always loved Science! After a 34 year career in Science I now teach at a Christian high school and I always endeavor to show the absolute beauty of life and God's created World!! There is such massive complexity in just how God maintains life inside your body and I try to show and reinforce these truths in my classes! During Mitosis and Meiosis in cells, just the Kinetochore Protien complex involved in duplicating cells contains over one hundred different Protiens!! The complexity of Protien Synthesis is incredibly beautiful, incredibly complex, and part of God's created world!! Science and Christianity are entirely 100% COMPATIBLE, the incompatibility between Scientific Materialism and Christianity (Biblical) Worldviews are massive, but these are Worldviews!!

Wow. Such a great conversation. And Sy- Jesus revealed himself to me the same way. I was mostly ignorant of Christianity. Never read the Bible. Had negative stereotypes of what Christians believed. But despair of my 20a forced an existential crisis on me. One day, without making my story longer that it has to be, Jesus said to me "I forgive you." And then "and I love you". And then the peace that passes understanding came into me and I wept . I wept tears of joy, and felt an immense release, and a feeling of calm came over me. And now to this day and always I cannot deny Him. God bless in your writing and in your mission to harmonize Christ And science together love that imagery!

Quantum Mechanics is a wonderful field to study as a Christian. You really get to know God through his creation because it has been boiled down to building blocks that we can somewhat understand. The logic is of a clear omniscient variety, and it really puts you in awe and understanding of the Creator. It is truly a blessing to study, it's like seeing the face of God.

Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle resonates with me, and the parallel Professor Garte makes between the electron and Jesus is really good. The electron as both a wave and a particle, that when measured by one technique affects the certainty of its measurement in the other, is a very harmonious notion of regarding Jesus as both God and human. I appreciate that comparison. The human mind cannot reconcile these two without first simply accepting it as a fact. Interestingly, I recall when the uncertainty and randomness of nature was used by a Buddhist to verify to me the veracity of Buddhism, but yet it was done without the integrity of explaining that it was a feature of quantum mechanics. Garte does a very excellent job of explaining--without going into quantum mechanics itself--how the inexplicable parts of nature (explainable by the mind of the Creator, of course) are a valid venue for learning to accept the complexity of a human mind attempting to understand the Creator-Savior God. Following on that, I applaud both his certainty that good science, done with due diligence and integrity will harmonize with the history of the past as well as the future, as I also applaud his willingness to state his position on the matter, in the face of the current cultural bent of popular science.. A very well-done interview, and I greatly appreciate the excellent cooperation of the interviewee, Professor Garte, in his excellent attention to your lead without attempting to assert his own significance.

"Science and faith are in harmony"! Love that. Thank you for this beautiful and powerful testimony Sy! "The Greatest Man in History... Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He did not live in a castle, yet they called Him Lord, He ruled no nations, yet they called Him King, committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today." I believe because ive personally withness with my own eyes in reality the spirit of God working through random people to get to me. I was doing drugs and living in sexual sin. And one time i was in the hospital by myself laying in the bed and nurses and doctors would walk by and not care because i was a addict but this janitor walked by and came up to me and told me Gods still with me. Total stranger. Also another time i was pretty much dead to life and kept overdosing and going to the hospital and one time the hospital send a cab from the next city over to come bring me back to where i was living and when the cab driver pulled up he literally looked at me and said these exact words. God sent me to you. He prayed over me and touched my chest/Heart and i immediately felt the chains break off me. It was such a weird feeling but i immediately felt better 😅 God is real he can use anything people or even animals to get to you.

That peace and that joy he felt after getting save, I know it. All you can think about is him, and just the thought or sound of his name fills you with joy and puts a smile on your face. That what it felt like the first month I got saved, after 3 months of resisting, the Lord Jesus finally managed to get me acknowledge what was happening and bend the knee. Within 3 months of wrestling the drawing power of the Holy Spirit, the Lord plucked me out of Darwinism and atheism. I will never forget those 3 months, nor the joy I felt, I know him and he knows me.

I kept learning stuff and bouncing between Genesis and Revelations, seeing God EVERYWHERE!!! Now I'm studying biology and it's the same thing, except I've had a year to process what I learned in chemistry so it's more awesome. ❤😂🎉😊 Just a quick comment on your dreams, I've had very similar dreams, totally different "context"? Dr. Garte, it’s been such a pleasure and extreme encouragement to come across this interview with Sean McDowell and hear your story of how you came to be born again in the faith of Jesus Christ! I’m looking forward to getting your books to help with parents that are home schooling their children. I’m sure they will be wonderful resources. My adult son struggled with atheism for several years and is slowly coming back to faith. I pray that your story, experience and knowledge will help him to overcome his doubts and insecurities about trusting our Lord Jesus. I especially Love how you explained the election being a particle and a wave to portray how Jesus could manifested Himself as fully human yet Divine. God Bless you Richly!!!❤❤❤❤

This has left me . . . at a loss for words . . . such extremes . . . radical brilliance . . . to say I am impressed & shocked is an understatement! I am also super delighted . . . I am no scientist yet I have been saying nearly all my life, to whoever would listen, there is no way science & God are in conflict . . . DUH . . . God is sitting up there snickering each time scientists think they have an infallible breakthrough, "Oh yeah, watch this!" It took a volcano in the 1950's to figure out jet streams & ocean currents & tsunami . . . FINALLY . . . I have a bonafied accredited scientist as a witness . . . You are singing my song, St! Powerful testimony. The practice of medicine opened my eyes to the sovereignty of Yahweh. The way he created our bodies, the eye which depicts the red reflex and fovea and optic nerves definitely shows how Yah is obsessed with light reflex, he even described in Revelations that Jesus has burning light reflex in his eyes. The ear has the cone of light which reflexes back at two times of 11 and 7 it all shows how our God is so fond of light and the pearly color of the ear mimicking the color of heaven , cloud universe. The complexity of the cv and resp system Truly shows our bodies are magnificent. The way our immune system and all the organs are wired , no one should doubt the human body is God's masterpiece.

One of the best talks i have ever heard! I would add, in Genesis the Bible says God stretched out the heavens. I remember my son came home from his senior year in Astrophysics at UCLA and as usual, he quized me. Mom, is the Universe collapsing inward towards the sun or expanding outwards, he asked me. I told him, the Bible says it is expanding and being stretched out. Every sentence in the Bible is an exact and precise truth, that is stated so simply that most don't capture the beauty of it's complex deep truth. Yeah Sy, go for it. You are doing a great work for the Lord.

I'm grateful he's made the effort to share the tale of how G-d reached him over the years. I'm heartened, encouraged, strengthened. As a Catholic, i'm pleased to hear it was a Catholic who shared Christ with him when he was in his 40s. And, btw, Eastern Orthodoxy deals with mystery in science and theology in a uniquely compelling way.

I've been a Christian my entire life--even as a small child I freaked my goodly (but, not especially actively faithful) parents out with my pronouncements of faith. There hasn't been a moment of doubt in my entire life. Even in college studying biology, science, physics everything I learned only amazed me testifying to the glory of God! I needed no proof but, saw that proof was everywhere. Hence, I've struggled understanding how ANYONE couldn't believe or didn't believe! I've had to pray for guidance from God how to receive those with such disdain for the Savior and his gospel! Even more struggling to pray for the athiest communists and Nazis who murdered millions of their own people in the most inhumane ways possible! It was very hard at first and took me a while to accept that these people were brainwashed and blinded yet Heavenly Father wanted them to turn away from evil, repent and receive his son's offer to usher them into heaven too! So, it is great joy I learn the prayers of the faithful have brought forth fruit and there are those who have turned away from atheism, communism, Nazism etc and have received Christ into their lives! What a wonderful God we have who desires us all to live with him throughout eternity and never gives up on anyone!

I am Catholic but I love this channel. I am married to an evangelical woman. I learn a lot from her and her church, in addition to having met exceptional people. In relation to the topic of Marxism and Christianity, I respectfully share the following information in case anyone is interested. It changed my life and helped me abandon the (erroneous) Marxist view of religion. A 1984 document called "Instruction on certain aspects of the Theology of Liberation", and another document from 1986 called "Instruction on Christian Freedom and Liberation". You can google them. I hope you don't delete my comment. Just as I have enriched myself enormously from evangelical authors, I believe that anyone can also do so from a Catholic theologian. What matters are ideas more than people or religion. Greetings.
