@@TTVD4nglez might be the most brain dead comment ever. Multiple 25+ goal seasons as an oiler, 34 goals in 11-12, and was traded when he was 26years. In what would be considered his prime. Eberle lacked size and speed to really flourish in the NHL. Something that still plagues him to this day. Hes got hands. Thats it McDavid, only player to score 150 points in a season in last 20 years, multiple rocket richards, and hart trophies to boot. Literally the most prolific scorer to grace our modern game, likely ever. Considering only 8 #1 draft picks have gone on to win a stanley cup since 1980. Win a cup or not. Hall of fame career, even if he retired today.

One of the best jr games in a long time. Ellis stopping the puck up high at the blue line to keep it in was so clutch. You can't blame the Russian kid for trying to score on the empty netter, easy to forget these guys are under 20 and not grown men. You're definitely right about this tournament being a big influence on the draft, Erik Johnson pretty much got taken at #1 because of his performance

@@RobTalksHockey He was played in an era with a lot of good players. He just had to wait his turn to get in wasn’t blacklisted from anything. He went first overall in the draft. As for team Canada I wouldn’t have taken him over the players that went to the Canada cups,Olympics ,and world cups that were played over his career. His skill set doesn’t lend itself to anything but a top 2 Center. Which Canada had Gretzky , messier and Lemieux early in his career , and sakic and Yzerman later. World championships may be there only one where if you can show me Canada never even extended an invitation once. But most likely he turned them down as a lot of nhl players want to rest right after a long season.

You should do a video on Patrice Cormier, a name that could have (and probably should have) been a household name, just to have his career end due to a gutless hit he threw, and he pretty much became blackballed by the national league. Would make an awesome video, def look into it!

Turgeon got into the HHoF in 2023. He might've got in sooner if his numbers were better, if he won more awards, and was much more dominating on the ice. He was one of those above average star players that was step below from becoming a superstar or elite at the NHL level. It took him a while to get in, but eventually he got there.

There are a number of errors in this video. Firstly, Klopov would never have made the red line with a shot on goal, I doubt he would have even reached the red line at all. He could have chipped it into the corner softly, but he had a clear, unobstructed line on goal. It's a very poor miss from an uncontested professional player. Klopov was not off the team because of the miss, He wasn't eligible as he would have turned 20 before the tournament. Eberle's move from the WHL to the AHL was not a call up. It's not lower in the tier, the ECHL is. Besides, the Regina Pats missed the playoffs that year, and Eberle simply finished the season in the AHL. This is not that uncommon, especially for prospects in European leagues, that end their seasons earlier. Then some factual errors. The Punch Up in Piestany was *not* a line brawl. It was a bench clearing brawl. These are two entirely different terms in hockey. Turgeon was drafted first overall that summer and played the next year in the big league, hence was not available for the junior tournament. It's not surprising that he didn't play for Canada anymore, as he wasn't valued enough for an offensive role on stacked Canada Cup and Olympic Canada teams. Furthermore, Turgeon was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023, well before this video was uploaded. Completely false information. Very poor video from a person with rather limited hockey knowledge.

That was not a "line brawl" in Piestany, that was an epic full on brawl. Back in the '70's, I had seasons tickets for the New Westminster Bruins and in 4 years I saw hundreds of 1 on 1 fights, dozens of line-brawls and at least a dozen full scale brawls. We also travelled to Victoria and Kamloops for road trips. Fighting was the way it was in junior hockey then. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJWZgX6KlLyLZpY

I disagree. It's no longer tied. The safe play is for him to take the puck across red and just get it deep. He doesn't have to shoot. Keeps the play alive and they have to come 200 feet back in under 40 seconds to score. Shooting was bad.

Still remember Eberle's name was spoken SO much for weeks after this. The hockey world was his oyster. Then Edmonton got a hold of him. AND man, did they EVER try and ruin his life. Oh there is SO much more trash regarding the Edmonton years starting from 2009 to today. He improved to over 70 points in his second season, and he went from leading the team in points to starting the first half of the NEXT season in the minors. ( injury?) And that was when Taylor Hall and Nugent-Hopkins showed up and he still was in top 5, but soon as McDavid showed up, he was the odd man out. Edmonton musta felt he was expendable because regardless of being in top 5 scorers on the team for 6 years, they traded him away anyways FOR.... Ryan Strome. Thats it. Ryan Strome. For one season and his 2nd worst points total ever and he was traded away 18 games in the next season after just getting 2 points. No. you can NEVER justify this.

I think WJC performances are given too much weight by GM's and scouts. It's often too much hype over one tournament performance, and they don't properly weigh a kid's whole career. Many overrated prospects that get drafted high and then have mid-to-nonexistent NHL careers had stellar WJC's- Wright, Slavkovsky (maybe too early to say), Puljujarvi, Nikita Filatov, etc...

Lol Just don't say something, that is impossible to back up. You may think it's pedantic but listen to any Television Hockey coverage. Look at the top KZbinrs. That you are the final word on the bests of hockey! Just say, in my opinion. P.S. Mario Lemieux scored his first goal, at the Boston Garden, in his first game, on his first shift, on a breakaway, with the hockey world watching. That would be my pick, for best first goal. But I have not seen them all and even if I had, it would still be IMHO. Cheers.
