How is it ignorant? I left the Catholic Church when I read the Bible and saw they don’t teach anything! Jesus literally states a future resurrection of the dead at Lazarus grave and the church ignores this teaching. John 11 :23-27 23Jesus saith to her: Thy brother shall rise again. 24Martha saith to him: I know that he shall rise again, in the resurrection at the last day. 25Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, although he be dead, shall live: 26And every one that liveth and believeth in me shall not die for ever. Believest thou this? 27She saith to him: Yea, Lord, I have believed that thou art Christ, the Son of the living God, who art come into this world. DRB John 5:28,29 - 28Wonder not at this: for the hour cometh wherein all that are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Son of God. 29And they that have done good things shall come forth unto the resurrection of life: but they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment. DRB Catholics do not teach a future resurrection of the dead.

Excuse me, but the evidence will show that those teaching false doctrine to their kids are guilty of child abuse, and certainly not an example of good apologetics. As I said elsewhere to refute this video... The reasons given in this testimony cannot stand biblical scrutiny, very simply because Catholicism is counterfeit Christianity. I will prove right now that popery is a non-prophet organization in this limited space. Specifically, the catechism quotes the Council of Trent (which claimed to be guided by the Holy Spirit TWICE in their decree on the Eucharist) and states that the Catholic religion may be SUMMARIZED in one sentence --which, as will be shown, just happens to be a lie. So buckle your seat belts. Notice the words in caps... “Christ our Redeemer SAID that it was TRULY his body he was OFFERING [in sacrifice at the Last Supper] ...." (CCC 1376). Aside from the fact it is flatly unbiblical to assert that Christ "offered himself in sacrifice at the Last Supper BEFORE he went to the cross" (CCC 621) because (HELLOOOO!) there is a specific, set time for everything (Ecc 3), the worse error is to misquote Jesus Christ who DID NOT SAY that the bread was "TRUUUUUUULY" his body. He said, "This is my body", period, not that the bread was "TRUUUULY" his body. Obviously, the magisterium felt the biblical account was inadequate to stand on its own, and so in reaction to the Reformers, they stuck a word in Christ's mouth to force their position that Christ was speaking literally about eating his flesh, down the gullible laity's throats pretending the Holy Spirit was guiding them. NO, The Holy Spirit was certainly NOT guiding them to add to the Text, now wake up! The fact is, the words, "This is" are shown to be metaphorical by at least 50 examples throughout the biblical record, whereas papal pundits simply ASSERT, without a scrap of evidence, that Jesus was speaking literally! If they want to risk their souls on a single-word MISQUOTE which claims to SUMMARIZE the entirety of their religious existence, then so be it. We have warned them. As a result of their being guilty of adding to the word of God, all claims for infallibility come tumbling down, not to mention anything they say about the Eucharist is to be rejected as well. Now the fact is, it is up to the Christian to decipher the Lord's meaning FROM THE TEXT, and not from the circus of Catholic apologetic clowns who came after it, such as Mr. Horn. Hence, based on the fact Jesus is gravely concerned about the sanctity of his word down to the last “jot and tittle” (Matt 5:18), that one, single gross addition to the word of God (namely, "TRULY") is like a flashing neon sign that signals us to consider ANY non-catholic explanation regarding the words "This is"...over and against what the Pope has to say. Therefore, not only is Transubstantiation unsubstantiated, but the claim for infallibility tips over like a house of cards, exposing the Council of Trent as a “non-prophet” organization (Eph 5:11) as well as a bunch of liars (Rev 2:2; cf: Deut 18:22, Jer 23:30-40, Ezekiel 13:1-7). It is promised in those passages that all who recklessly wag their tongues by asserting, “The Lord says”, (when the Lord did not say), will be swiftly cast out of his presence (cf. Jeremiah 14:14, 23:16-21). Consequently, WHATEVER testimony an incoming Catholic gives, they are not to be trusted because they're promoting an irrefutably false religion whose top-gun Council of Trent misquoted Jesus Christ under the banner of infallibility, case closed.

@@mojo7495 I’m sorry, but what evidence do you have that the Bible is correct? If the Catholic Church is wrong, then your Bible is too. After all, it was the church who passed down the very Bible you claim to quote from. Additionally, nowhere in the Bible does it advise which books should be included, nor does it state that the Bible is the only authority given by God for his church. You can state a thousand verses, but none of them actually are evidence for the authority of the scriptures you are using. Then I get what made me jump back on the protestant side cleared up, then I'm back on the fence leaning toward Catholic. I am scared to make the jump completely. I never have before. When you're on the Protestant side of the fence it can be really hard to jump over. You go from Protestants are 100% right and Catholicism is the whore of Babylon, to admitting Catholics aren't that bad and perhaps have some reasons for believing what they do. And then you start believing that they are right some of the time, then half of the time, then 90% of the time, but as you begin to see more and more that they are right, it's still hard to tell yourself that Protestants are wrong. I guess it's loyalty to Protestant friends and family. Your calculations no longer add up to 100%. If Protestants are 100% right, Catholics must be 100% wrong. But then Catholics are 50% right... yet Protestants are still 90% right. Even if you finally decide Catholics are 100% right, there's still going to be that side of you that wants to say Protestants are still right. It's just really hard to admit to yourself that those you care about are probably wrong on THEIR theology. But once you choose to convert, if you do, it becomes much easier to let go of your old beliefs. That obligation to find some way to justify your old beliefs fades away, it really does. I was 33 when I converted and I've never regretted it, never felt that I made the wrong decision. I still remember my old objections to Catholicism, but none of them matter anymore. Your brain just learns to let go of the desire to fight the Biblical arguments over this or that scripture that you used to fight as a Protestant and you suddenly realize sola scriptura, and once saved always saved, and predestination, and all no longer matter anymore. It's a lot more peaceful way to be.

Why you would go out of your way to bash Mary when she has such a special place in Christ’s heart is beyond me. Asking Mary to intercede for you with Christ, the bible is clear that she can and that she does care about common things that Christ wouldn’t otherwise bother with …. even a wretch like me.

Just adding my thoughts on the wedding in Cana. I think part of the reason that Jesus hesitated before helping the bride and groom, was His concern for His Mother. He knew that by starting His public ministry, meant that it would then start the countdown to His Crusifiction, and He wanted to make sure that His Mother understood this and was ready for it! What an emotional moment that had to be, for both of them! God bless! 🌹

It makes sense to have an authority that goes all the way back to Jesus because otherwise various essential truths are being extinguished and then popping back up by coincidence and the holy spirit not sustaining them. You can see why historical protestants were so fond of ideas like Baptist successionism and similar ideas that the "true" church actually remained even if the ideas were distributed across many different people. But ideas that ostensibly justified historic protestants sense of continuity with the early Church are no completely abandoned without any reconsideration on the part of contemporary protestants

What I miss in Protestant services is the Catholic liturgical year, the mass as the bloodless re-enactment of Calvary, the Stations of the Cross. I heard a Protestant minister in Scotland liken Catholic priests to the Pharisees - priests think they need to dress up in order to please God, he said. He was ignorant of the priest's vestments (that the amice represents the blindfold the Roman soldiers tied on Jesus) or the beauty of Lent.

5:41 we have a central authority, Christ is the head of the church. 7:30 what did Jesus leave us? The Holy spirt. When the curtain in the Holy of Holies was torn it symbolized - no more human separation between God and man. The old priestly order of Aaron was replace with a new order, namely Christ. We no longer need a human intercessor. Who’s the cornerstone of the church? Peter? Hardly. Peter himself acknowledges the cornerstone in 1 Peter 2:4 is Christ. Pete goes on to say the church is a spiritual house, each Christ fellow acting as a “priest” offering spiritual sacrifices… I’m pro-any branch who’s been grafted into the Vine. I just see little reason to believe God intended any group to suppose they have exclusivity to being the Body of Christ to the exclusion of other. You’re either in the Vine or are not - what building frequent doesn’t determine your position in Christ.

Can someone please explain what I should do if I grew up Catholic and my experiences are leading me to Protestantism? I’m absorbing all this info about the historical foundations of Catholicism, but that history seemingly plays no role in how morbid/hopeless the Catholic faith has been for me in practice. Also, can it be argued that Catholics pointing to early church history for apologetics would be like the Jewish leaders of the old testament telling the prophets that they were misrepresenting the words/laws of Moses? (Both cases involve a power/authority saying “God gave it to us first. Do you want to dishonor God by not following the person/people he first gave authority to?”) Seems like a way to guilt/shame people for even questioning them. Another way of addressing this: can Protestants be compared to the OT prophets, not in the sense of prophecy, but in their insistence of Christian’s recovering/returning to the word of God?

I can tell you what I think of when things seem hopelessly bad in church. Whether it's liturgy, the flawed behaviour of fellow Christians, scandals etc. 1. The church is a fellowship of sinners. It's predestined that things go wrong. But 2. The gates of hell will not prevail. Although there have been e.g. really problematical popes, not one of them bound the church to unchristian teachings. That's somewhat miraculous. 3. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. That's a cognitive bias I have to be aware of. In reality the struggles of becoming holy are the same everywhere. At least in this church I don't have to worry about changing moral and theological teachings, or what the true (historical) church is; I can confidently look back on 2000 years of apostolic succession. 4. I found a community. Going to mass once a week did frustrate me at one point, bc I realised that you merely know the ppl there, there is little community live. But there are small or big groups of catholics that meet, in different age groups, I simply never reached out. Now I know that to have such a community is a blessing. His "Catholic Case for Christ" is excellent. I found that the church fathers were fighting heretics in ancient times over whether she was a perpetual virgin. Then I questioned why I was agreeing with the classified heretics. I thought at one point that the church fathers were possibly misogynistic and thought they had to justify Mary via perpetual virginity. But then I read about many Marian apparitions where Mary claimed virginity herself and how the church doctors affirmed her virginity. God affirmed the church doctors with Catherine of Siena, for example.

Honestly the greatest way to think about it is to start to the beginning. Where does Christology start on this Earth? From Mary of course, imagine out of all of the Jewish lineage and women to use as a “vessel” for Christ and God chose Our Blessed Virgin Mary. That’s an honor greater than no other. THEN still served God greatly raising Jesus for the person he is today. The 10 commandments state to honor our mothers and fathers. If Mary is the Mother of Christ, then Mary is my Mother in Christ too! Why denounce her THEN praise Jesus as your Lord and Savior! Technically speaking, if you don’t love Mary the same Catholics and Orthodox love her then you can not proclaim to love Jesus Christ as much as us. It’s a slap in our faces to subject that we do not love Christ because we revere Our Blessed Virgin Mary as he Queen of Heaven, God-Bearer (Theotokos). It’s just absurd, almost like Muslims claiming they love Jesus Christ more than us Christians for believing that he was just a Messenger of Allah and was replaced on the cross with someone how looked like him. Like how it that theologically sound?? 😂

Hi Rachel, as a Protestant, I find the ‘extra’ (actually original) books do not contradict at all. You will find Protestant’s who say they do, but some of the things that are pointed to (as Catholic doctrine) are actually more clearly taught in the books we share in common. Also the critique’s of the ‘Apocrypha’ could be said about any book in the Bible. Some things in the gospels can only be explained if you have the ‘Apocrypha’ (Deutero-Canon). My personal favorite ‘Apocryphal’ book is Sirach, which is like a broad commentary on Proverbs. I spent time (off and on) from about 1982 - 2012 or so trying to figure out if the Apocrypha were really inspired scripture. I finally concluded that they are. I am not Catholic but completely accept the Catholic Bible as being the correct one. It took me years to figure out, as there was no internet when I started, and I didn’t know where to research. I have perhaps 10 or 12 things that convinced me of this truth. Too much info to share here.

I just finished my grad degree in Catholic theology and a lot I don't remember but the topics that were consistent through all the classes I did retain. On the idea that we "should" have more female apologists: It's well meaning, but it is directly a Marxist thought that has to do with obliterating gender differences. My guess is that the greatest apologist that ever lived was Mary. She seems to spend most of her time in praising God, prayer, with her Son, and later with the first male apologists. Trent and other Catholic gentlemen, formal apologetics is your job. Us ladies will work on the domestic side. 🙂🙏

@@annb9029 - Setting the goal of "should" is the Marxist ideal. God will raise up female apologists if he wants them. But quite often the work means a woman is doing poorly her main vocation as wife and mother. Further, the untold secret of feminism is that mostly it just adds to the workload of the women while subtracting from the men. Men, for a whole host of reasons, tend to make better apologists anyway. Let them stand up and do it. Women have enough to get done.
@royalsoldierofdrangleic45772 жыл бұрын
Ok, so what about female saints that did engage on more masculine things? I don't think you will argue that saint Jeanne dressing as a knight is "directly a marxist thought" or that saint Catherine of Siena writing to the Pope and engaging in political and Church affairs is "obliterating gender differences". Or if we pick the opposite example, men that preferred staying on their own spending most of their time praying and praising God instead of doing formal apologetics, is that wrong?
@atrifle83642 жыл бұрын
@@royalsoldierofdrangleic4577 - Most of who you are talking about are notable exceptions. They all share one thing in common: they were single women. Most women have families that should be their main vocation. All wishes like "there should be more women apologists" is only to add workload to women and stress families. I mean if you are prepared to be nun and live on the Eurachrist alone, not worried that you are privately petitioning popes. If you are 17, prepared to dress like a knight and ride out in front of armies and die as a martyr by 19, no I am not worried that you are blurring gender roles or not doing right by your main vocation. The question is do we really want what we're asking for here? I doubt it.

I really wanted to join the catholic church. I love the historical lineage, the truth preserved about Communion, and the traditions and reverence of catholic services. But I cannot in confess faith in something I don't truly believe. And unfortunately there is too much about catholicism I cannot accept. 1. I can't treat anything that isn't the Word of God as equal to the Word of God in infallibility. 2. I can't call a man "Holy Father" as I have one Holy Father and He is in heaven. 3. I can't bow down to or serve any images. For I serve the Invisible God, the One True God, and He is not found in any image or sculpture made by human hands. I will bow down to God alone, for my God is a jealous God.

@user-ki2vh1uc5k thank you! I love Scott Hahn! I've watched a lot of his videos and found his stuff on "holiness" to be especially powerful! I will check out that book, thank you. I do agree that the catholic church is the "true church" (I view everyone whose name has been written in the Lamb's Book of Life to be members of the "true church" which is the Mystical Body of Christ) and I even acknowledge that the pope sits on the seat of Peter. But even the "true church" must be constantly conforming to the Word of God, constantly checking its doctrines against Scripture and constantly reforming itself toward the image of Christ. And even Peter himself, the rock of the church, was publicly corrected on matters of church doctrine according to Scripture. How much more should we correct the men who currently sit on his seat? I also studied the earliest church fathers, the great Patriarchs and Prophets and Apostles of old, men like Abraham and Elijah and Peter. Our "early fathers" were all Jewish men, obedient to the Word of God. NONE of these men ever bowed down to images! NONE of these men ever prayed to or served the queen of heaven! NONE of these men ever communicated with the deceased! These are all PAGAN practices that come from pagan Rome. Our religion does not come from pagan Rome, but rather from holy Jerusalem! Follow the example of our earliest church fathers, the great Patriarchs and Prophets and Apostles of old! Thanks for the information my friend. God bless!

Historical Context matters. The Christians were persecuted by the Romans heavily at the time, fuelled by Jewish hatred, and since Jewish people did hold positive sway in The Empire at the Time, they were able to make it so that any Political figure announced to be a leader will be persecuted and found. Thus, no mention of central Authority was made, since he didn't even talk about his succession at all, but we know he succeed the Seat of Peter. There's also the fact that he was arguing authoritatively about reinstating Bishops and Priests, with his letter to the Corinthians, and the fact that he acts almost authoritative in the letter can easily infer his central authority. This is particularly so since he'd be most likely writing to other Bishops, as well as the broader congregation

I wouldn’t call her a Protestant apologist. She knows nothing about Protestantism. The kindest thing I could say is that she was a Christian apologist. On Pop Apologist S J Thompson’s book “Why Christianity matters”: “It is an eisegetical mess, ripping biblical texts from their context to make concordist assertions about them. None of this is original to Thomason as she admits in the chapter. She is beholden to Hugh Ross whose lackluster handling of the Bible is frustrating for those of us who prefer to read those texts in light of their historical context, not ours. But Thomason has no training in biblical exegesis, historical criticism, or related fields, and, from everything I’ve ever read from her, she has read very little on those subjects. She is therefore unarmed before the stature of a seasoned apologist like Hugh Ross. As the old adage goes, “Those who know better do better.” Thomason simply doesn’t know.” I think she is doing everyone a favor by pursuing other areas of service.

Jesus only promises one kind of life to those who believe in Him, and it's called ETERNAL LIFE. By its very nature, eternal life cannot be lost. If you could give it back for any reason whatsoever, then it wouldn't be eternal. Jesus would also be a liar if that were the case. Anyone who believes eternal life can be lost also believes in works for salvation. If there is any sin whatsoever that you could commit in the future that would condemn you to hell, then you don't believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ paid your sin debt in full. Instead, you believe that "Jesus did His part, and now I must do mine." That won't get you to heaven, because salvation is not some kind of cooperative effort. It's a FREE GIFT that is received by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
