This method makes you read haphazardly. When you try to reach a particular time when reading, you tend to move fast and forward - neglecting mistakes you've made while reading and not going back to re-read in order to clarify somethings or neglecting the principle of repetition of key points so they can stick into your head.

You could change it to your liking though. Instead of 25/5 you could do 45/10 or 45/15. What I often do is that I still go slow and after the timer is over, I don’t take a break until I’m done with that page or problem.

Lol I just started doing this for my summer class! 20 on 5 of and then spending those 5 minutes tidying or cleaning my room which was a mess. The general idea is to work and take breaks in way that creates a routine. Because it's only with routine and consistent work/focus that you can achieve something and be productive. Everyone knows that, but the problem is someone thinks they can get away with minimal work=more leisure time. I've been both the straight A-student and the C-student. When I was the A-student I had a plan and a routine. When C-student I just procastinated and crammed last minute. Now I am a B-student, which means I have an optimal level of routine.
