Thank you for sharing this story with us Christy! I too drank too much when I was younger. It was an unhealthy coping skill for a rough home life at the time. I was fortunate enough to never develop a dependency but I did make some bad choices a few times while underaged drinking. I'm glad you are doing better now. Kids truly do give us the motivation we need to keep fighting sometimes. Stay well Christy! Love you 🙂

To be honest... sobriety makes life so much more beautiful and profound. I took a year off of drinking, not because I had a "problem" per say, but I just wasn't finding joy going out anymore or drinking to have fun. I had tremendous personal growth that year. It was actually 2020- and I managed to stay sober throughout despite the pandemic! After the year was over, I had a glass of wine and I immediately felt like the joy I was feeling with my friend while chatting was slowly diminishing. It was astonishing. It was like, my body needed a break so I could see and FEEL what alcohol actually is: a depressant.

The “Lotus” place totally reminds me of that scene in the Percy Jackson movie where people keep eating the lotus flowers in the casino and didn’t realize they had been there since the 70s. For anyone out there struggling with addiction, vices, or escapism....don't be discouraged if things don't "fall into place" the moment you are having a child. This! And it doesn’t sound like she was addicted too, she said she wasn’t waking up wanting a drink & didn’t mention having to detox or withdrawal. I think it was just a social thing of drinking every time she went out in the afternoon & it was often so she could see it becoming a problem and decided to change her way of life. People struggling hard with addiction won’t have it so easy even if they have a baby and WANT to quit they fear the withdrawal and not being able to parent their child for weeks from withdrawal being so debilitating. So her experience will definitely look different just like everyone’s experience is different❤️

I was listening to a preacher this morning who said: “Sow a thought, reap an action. Sow an action, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap a character. Sow a character, reap a destiny.” That seems evident in your life, both in the bad and the good. I don’t drink and never struggled with that temptation, but I do struggle in other areas and recognize that it begins in our minds. I know I would say I have an addictive personality, so if I started drinking, I’d probably get addicted, which is one of the reasons I don’t. I know that I still need to work towards overcoming my struggles, and through prayer, accountability and reliance on Christ, I can overcome them. You are a big inspiration. God bless.

I'm so proud of your recovery! So many people in your position AKA former child stars often struggle with these kinds of stuff and understandably so because of all the pressure and hectic lifestyle their childhood consisted of and sadly, sometimes their recoveries aren't always as successful. I'm glad you were able to fight through it and you have your family that helped you fight through it.❤😊

Congrats on 5 years! @Christy Carlson Romano. I got sober last December but then I had one day of a minor slip up but that day was the last day of just having a few beers for me. Ive been sober since January and im 8 months in and staying strong so far! Being sober from alcohol is one of the best things ever and I have been eating more healthier to because of it and taking a gummy vitamin everyday to. That 2 months being in the hospital and getting my spleen out was the final wake up call for me. I just smoke cannabis now, drink coffee, some caffine free soda and green tea. Keep being authentic to Christy! We love you for it.

Thank you so much for sharing something so so personal!! I've been struggling with staying sober for a couple of years now. I'll go stretches for a couple of months long as when I've managed was about 6 months and then something happens or I'll just have one sip and next thing you know it's a whole another month before I can even try to get in the right mind space to get clean again and stay clean. Thank you so much Christy and I wish you the best in everything you do ❤️❤️

I tended to alcohol due to social anxiety. I depended on it to have a great time. I wanted to be loud and obnoxious. I started drinking at a young age 16 to late 20s. My families would throw parties were alcohol was unattended. That wasn't their fault. As It was my choice to sneak in to the beverages. I had a cousin who dated a older man so I was always around alcohol. I was in love with it. I remembered after having such a good night my mind would race about what I looked like and if I was offending others around me? My anxiety worsened. I would be hungover attending church services with headaches. I saw alcohol tear loved one's. I later realized I had Bipolar Manic. My original diagnosis of PDD NOS Aspergers didn't help with relying on alcohol. As I used it to control me as the party boy. Alcohol now does NOT mix well with me and my medications anymore. I've been sober and can socially drink without depending on a glass or beer but I choose not to. Not hating on any one that enjoys alcohol though.

Thank you for sharing this. And congrats on five years of sobriety. I am glad you found peace with your past and moved forward to something better. I wish there wasn’t so much emphasis put on drinking in this country. To a degree, I can understand needing something to take the edge off after a hard day, but it can lead to bad habits and depression. Like Christy said, there are others things that can be done to help with a bad day. I have never been a drinker. I tried a few different types of alcohol but I didn’t like the taste, and I knew that there was a history of alcoholism in my family, so I didn’t want to chance it. But there’s this weird pressure to drink socially. I was told “Oh, you’ll get used to the taste” or “You just need to keep trying different things, you’ll find your drink.” There’s idea that if you’re an “adult” that you need to have alcohol to be social. My wife and I both don’t drink, but, when we host parties, inevitably someone brings a bottle of wine or six pack of beers. No one asks if it is OK.
