You can apply this strat to Yorick midlane for example due to low base armor on mages for every e with 4 ghouls it's half an hp bar. At 6 you got control of the lane if the midlaner has no flash it's death, tower smacking, and objective control as well. I thought about it and vs immobile mages it just makes more sense for him to be there, due to the shorter lane, sustain vs poke and excellent 2v2 at 6 onwards.

As a 300k mastery Illaoi I can say for certain Illaoi mid works wonders and heres how I personally do it. My runes are conq, approach velocity & boots, First strike can be better than conq in matchups you already win super hard. Like into sylas, you simply just get even more ahead. Core items EVERY GAME, Frostfire into boots into grudge into situational items or steraks. Illaoi with magical boots will have 400 ms. Combine that with the constant slow effects + approach velocity and you can run down a good chunk of champions even as Illaoi. Melee matchups mid against those meta roamer's can't escape you anymore with their stupid mobility. With this build your providing utility + AOE slows for the team activily keeping your damage dealers safer zoning off enemies. While also being able to trap people in your ult, there wont be any escape unless your victim has flash, high ms + swifties, phaserush or a dash. Because, once you get hit with that slow good luck dodging tentacle slams, aka half of Illaoi's damage which is normally dodged or kited out. Illaoi's role mid is to keep assassins stuck in lane while bullying mages who want to scale to late game. Her 2nd job is to be at every objective ready for a fight. Your effectively forcing people to dive you because they want drake and diving Illaoi is never a good idea and just what you want. Her 3rd job is to absorb as much of the enemy jungler's time as possible. Junglers always gank mid since they need to cross through it and Illaoi can 1v2 easily if set up correctly or simply get out alive. Preventing roams and having the jungler spend time mid trying to help mid is time he hasn't spent bot actually killing your ADC or tower diving your top laner. 4th job is just flat out peeling late game or mid if your too far behind. Your slows will help keep melee champions off your carry. Your ult by design makes assassins cry when used correctly. 5th job is to be team fighting whenever you can. 6th is to split push if you are mega fed or if your team refuses to group for fights. If your hyper fed just buy hullbreaker and split everytime. In the games where your fed they have a good bit of melee champs and they cant stop you once your snowballing. That's how I do it. A trick i use with illaoi to finish enemies off when they're low HP and affected by Illaois E, you can still use ULT. The tentacles hit much faster allowing you to surprise them. It doesnt matter if they're already far away from you since they usually walk away from you, the tentacles still hit fast when you ult

A couple days ago, I actually also started taking Illaoi mid. However I go for more of a Lethality build with Duskblade. Set up tentacles just like Badook, for the same reasons, max Q and then E. The enhanced W attack procs the slow on Duskblade, which will all but guarantee that nearby tentacles will hit (as well as making the Q hit a llllot easier), even if you're not attacking their Spirit. The Slam for her tentacles also has a Total AD scaling of 110%. The base damage scales with your Q level. Hitting your E in a teamfight is super easy, since they rarely happen in lane, one so once that happens, you W in and you Ult, which *will* kill at least one person if you're fed enough. During this invisibility, if the ADC is still breathing, you commit Big Mommy Bonk on them. Oh, and did I mention, the ability haste you get merely by building assassin items is super phat on her?

Sudden Impact because her W counts as a leap, and that's then 7 free Lethality, just from starting your combo. Eyeball Collection because AD is AD, and Ultimate Hunter because Ravenous is only 33% effective, *and* it has been nerfed. Also come on, Illaoi ult is pretty nutty In lane, you'll be poking with Q a lot, to chunk your opponent and push minion waves. That's why our second tree is Precision. Presence of Mind to be More Annoying™, and Coup de Grace :)

I've been one-tricking Illaoi mid for a while now and have honestly found it much more useful and satisfying than any other mid champs. Her carry potential is insane, esp. when you have the choices to go bruiser, tank etc. Being able to constantly roam and find picks helps really well with the team if they're far behind.

As an illaoi main, having illaoi mid is common, cause all illaoi one tricks know that walls are her best friend, and that 4 Tentacle set up is possible on sidelanes as well. Another thing is how people complain about her e, but her e is nothing but a hook, if you are able to fight her especially as other juggernauts like darius or garen then punish her for trying to e, the only time you run is when she ults, if she has no ult she's mostly useless cause you can easily dodge her tentacles, cause even if she hits your spirit the damage is reduced so as long as she doesn't hit you your very well fine

Yeah, Illaoi is amazing. Started playing her a few weeks ago on top Lane and than switched to Mid Lane. Everyone I played with was confused, why that actually works. But I Just Love the 4 tentacle Spots in the Lane, with which you can Work really Well. Got a 80-85% WR on her with around 40 Games. Imo the clue is to Work with the tentacles as much as possible.

Illaoi is actually the most fun matchup to vs. as Tahm. Both players are encouraged to be aggressive, the matchup swings either way based on who plays better to their win condition and none of them has some bullshit mechanic. Illaoi can poke through minions and wins short trades, but she will lose extended trades. Both champions are immobile and skillshot based, so you can't cheese your way around them with dashes. Tahm is much stronger levels 1 and 2, but because he has no waveclear and lose short trades, if he don't capitalize on it, Illaoi takes over lane control by level 3. Even there, drag trades for long enough and you can still swing the matchup around. Tahm vs Illaoi is up there with Shaco vs Lee Sin, LeBlanc vs Ahri or LeBlanc vs Zed as most fun matchups to play because its a skill matchup that can go either way. Its the type of matchup that will be won by the better player.

Correction: Illaoi don't has good mana sustain, in fact she burns her mana pretty quickly, so that's why he goes for presence of mind + corrupt potion, so that you dont run out of mana in the first rotation of skills

Getting a legendary item that perfectly fits your champion is actually stronger than going with a mythic item first. Illaoi wants to be low on HP, but not dead. Steraks gives lots of regen and a shield the more people she attacks or gets attacked by, if she's attacked by 3+ people, then you would often lose over 70% of you HP. Steraks then protects you with regen and a shield that scales with bonus HP. Then even just building the HP components of your next item will make your steraks stronger.

One thing not even mentioned here is the fact that landing and successfully killing illaoi’s e gives you a small amount of gold, but even more importantly, a small amount of xp. Thing about starting q is that it cost too much mana, staring w and then going into e and lastly maxing q is a lot better since e does the same thing as q but for 35less mana, i have been playing illaoi mid for 4 seasons now and its super good because of the pressure you put on mid champions who are not expecting to lane against a bruiser, but you get easily counter picked by any passive laners or natural threats like morde, trynd, kayle, quin, anivia, ahri, syndra. but it stomps against all ad mid and slow casters, also you loe getting ganked since you'll have great tentacle coverage for it, gl hope this helps

Bois I have found the hidden tech that is fun af. go lethality gnar phase rush->nimbus cloak celerity->gathering storm secondary is up to you but I generally go resolve tree with conditioning and overgrowth to make up for mini gnar's squishiness and give more survivability for mega. Another tree that you can try out is the inspiration tree with hexflash and depending on the match up you can go time warp tonic for more sustain in lane, generally, I like to go approach velocity but also cosmic insight is decent if you pair it with cdr boots which makes it so that you can flash r a lot more. the starting items are long sword and refillable, you are just trying to survive lane poke with q and try to get as much cs as possible. gnar is pretty safe and with phase rush and e it makes him much safer and makes him annoying to trade against with because of phase rush and 3 w proc which makes you super fast meaning you can kite out most champs. Never use E aggressively in mini gnar it has a long cd and makes him super easy to kill. I need to experiment with it a bit more during laning phase and mid to late game but its super fun at least imo.

Illaoi simply needs to not have her tentacles be a passive that she can't control, slightly quicker animation speed, and she can become top tier. I really feel its the only thing holding her back. Because of that stupid passive, its always "No tentacles when you need it" or "Tentacles spawn at wrong place". Sure you can adjust the place they spawn by hugging certain walls, but they are often dangerous positions for enemy to engage on you.

I've been playing Illaoi mid for arround a month now, 10 games with 100% winrate, i can definitely approve that just taking one soul gives you a guaranteed victory as the mid lane champs are way less tanky

i tries first strike illaoi. maybe i wasnt using it properly or something but the lost damage andhealing of conq really affected. i was noticing the lost dmg and healing so clearly. conq really shines on illaoi and, for me it is the only rune which works properly on illaoi

I'm a Diana one trick and I'm thinking about picking up Illaoi. I dogged her mid the one time I laned against one and it felt great but man I had to play under tower the whole time and that was really annoying. I just ended up outplaying her by a lot.

a few errors: r does damage on cast thus tower will target you, illaoi has low mana cost but also a low mana pool and mana gen

I actually said E, not R. E doesn't get agro, so you can land that first then R after for the burst. For mana I should have been more clear - illaoi needs 1 ability to kill the wave, so overall her mana costs are lower than most mids

how is the annoyance of illaoi's e even compare to that of yone/yasuo dashes, akshan invis and swings, shaco's invis and boxes, the list goes on. the e is a skillshot, which alr is worse off than the abilities above.

it doesn't do any initial damage so why would it take aggro? you need to hit the soul with stuff for the champ to take damage
