The concept of a human turning into a Pokémon is surprisingly not utilized as much as I’d hope it would be. Sure, turning into a cute Starter Pokémon is cool and all, but Imagine having a game with the Pokémon equivalent of Ben 10’s Omnitrix.

Honestly, Explorers Of Sky is my favorite game of all time since I got it as my first game ever. I've played through the whole game one time, and it was totally worth playing through again. I am currently playing as a Shinx with a Riolu as my partner. Despite being female, IRL, I wanted to play as a Shinx because I thought it would be fun. And oh boy, has it been fun. I still have my original copy from when I was a kid, which is the copy I am playing right now. The Shinx and Riolu combo has been really nice to play with. I can't wait until I reach the end of the game to go through Destiny Tower. Anyway, my experience with these games has always been awesome. I love these games and will continue to play them.

Someone I think would be a really good PMD plot would be...well...spoilers for Scarlet and Violet: the character has...odd memories. What they recall are human memories, but they seem to be observing them rather than experiencing them directly. There's a very important person they're with, and though they're with that person (and exclusively that person for some reason...), their memories also seem to be filtered through them. As such, everything seems *new* to them, every experience like something they're unfamiliar with. ...the AI it's the AI they got turned into a Pokemon and can go on adventures of their own now I just really want them to be happy and I feel like that would be a really good storyline for them.

The explorer series explains the reason why you became a pokemon, is because the time tunnel was damaged as you were stepping through it. In other words, the something went wrong and your existence within the timeline was rewritten to be a pokemon instead of a human.

A PMD theory? Let's gooooooo Btw, I love GtI's take on this; you are not "the chosen one", but you still end up being the last one standing. It is obvious that if it weren't for the paradise gang you would've ended like the other humans. That makes the bond with the other characters even stronger. Also if this 13:18 is true, you can actually explain why GtI didn't include the personality test: the council / voice of life didn't even have time to interview you lol
@socialaccount000011 ай бұрын
Regarding Time/Dark/Sky, personally, I just assumed that the Human was sent into the Dark Future to aid Grovyle for one reason or another, my headcanon being they were an expert trainer/strategist and would've been able to aid Grovyle/Celebi on a tactics level (after all, it was your idea to gather the time gears in the past to stop the future, that is before you get amnesia). Thus, they didn't need to be a Pokemon because they were mostly planning battles, their role assigned to them was not meant for participating in battles. After all, when Darkrai was struck down by Palkia in a similar manner to us/the protag was at the end of Sky, they didn't turn into another Pokemon (in fact, they can be encountered post-game as an amnesiac who doesn't remember the player, and can even be recruited, so the only commonality is amnesia from such an attack.) The only reason I see for the human being turned into a Pokemon by this attack is likely divine intervention by Arceus, who knew you could still be of use and simply made you a temporary body, one that would be more... inconspicuous in a world inhabited by Pokemon (after all, the only pokemon left in the future were Dusknoir, Grovyle, Celebi, Dialga, and a bunch of feral Pokemon. So they didnt need to exactly hide their humanity, whereas a human would stick out like a sore thumb in Treasure Town and be quickly found by Dusknoir). Speaking of Arceus, I am 100% convinced he/it is the one to send the protag to the Dark Future and assigned them their role. As for *why* Arceus did this? No idea, but again, my headcanon was that the protag's personality, before and after amnesia, would have a personality/aura that was similar enough to Grovyle's to where the two would become close allies and friends. After all, you need to trust each other to work together. So, to summarize: The Dark Sky Human (just a name I give them because it sounds cool) was an unknown human from an unknown world who's personality, aura, and intelligence were suitable for the mission Arceus had. As for why Arceus doesn't just intervene himself...idk... point being, they were a human in the future and were only turned into a Pokemon after essentially being killed and given a second chance by Arceus. As for why they stay a Pokemon, and aren't sent back to their human world, well, they're a living paradox. Their human body, what little of it would've remained after being attacked, was erased from time. This likely affected their human past as well. Its my headcanon that if Arceus sent them back to their human world, it would be a world where they were never born (because again, wiped from existence/time). So, to avoid that awkward moment, revived them in a world where they had friends and were regarded as a hero, instead of sending them back to a world where their own parents wouldn't recognize them.. tl;dr God liked you, the player, enough and thought you'd get along with Grovyle. They saw you get killed/seriously wounded by Darkrai and decided it was better for you to finish your job as a Pokemon, where you can actually defend yourself. They spare you from time erasure, but you have no world to go back to, so you crash at your friends house in the mean time.

For a one-off anime special, Team Go-Getters Out of the Gate did some pretty masterful foreshadowing. When Team Go-Getters help Team Meanies with their Oran Berry and Gengar wants to know why, former-human Squirtle tells him that they’re brothers, that they’re both Pokémon. How crazy is it that the protagonist ex-human says this to the ex-human of prophecy?
@LemonCait Жыл бұрын
This is such a cool theory! I agree with the idea that the personality quiz may also double as an interview to make sure the human is ready or has the right potential, although you can’t actually fail it. This also furthers as a possible explanation for why gates didn’t have a quiz, as they were rapidly selecting humans until one succeeded. They were running out of time. I also had a theory that before the hero from red/blue rescue loses their memories there was even more quizzes or tests, and the one that we see is just the end one to determine which Pokemon they become. But that’s just really my headcanon for it! :D
@Dragonfly-in9uu Жыл бұрын
so the theory of the voice of life summoning Humans into the world in a desperate way could be the reason behind why the Pokémon selection is very limited to choice from in the beginning since the selected Pokémon are already used and defeated?

The question i'd like answered is if the spirits those humans that were defeated by muna's gang are going back to their respective bodies or if they're like actually dead, like you die in the pokemon world you die in the human world. bit of a morbid question but I can see how intense it would make the moment tho

Its stuff like that makes me wish people would pull from the 3ds games a bit more over tunnel visioning explorors, perhaps pulling from rescue team now and again. Sure, Explorors might have the deeper and more tastefully written story, But i genuinely had zero clue that the otherwise fannon concept of, "humans get brought here kinda a lot", was not only a plot point, but that they literally murderd people in gates. Like, actually WTF?
@chaseweber6823 Жыл бұрын
And so I'm coming back to this while watching a fandubbed playthrough of Super, and I'm even more convinced of my previous assertion that, "I wish fanfic writers would pull from more than explorers and sometimes rescue team." Because seriously? Here I was planning further along the line of doing a deep analysis of mystery dungeons societies, from the perspective of a kid for two of my characters backstories, and I am finding out as of just the other day that Super not only agrees with me on a lot of points, BUT THAT I STREAIGHT UP MADE A BUNCH OF CALLS AND HEADCANNONS BLINDLY, AND SUPER HAD ACTUALLY DONE EXACTLY THOSE THINGS! I'm actually really happy about that. I will refrain from the urge to change my plans before I actually get to that part of my work.

I always found the lore of Mystery Dungeon to be utterly fascinating and sadly never explored. I already typed a long ass comment, so instead, I'll just make a bulletpoint of the stuff I find the most fascinating: - Where did the humans go? They existed in the world at some point, judging by all the dilapidated structures, most notably in Red/DX - What is the Council & The Agents of Spirit? - Just what was the event that caused the birth of The Bittercold? - Just how many humans have been in the world of Pokemon, how many have failed? - Why are humans so OP when placed into the body of a Pokemon? They can resist the Bittercold, resist Dark Matter, and can go from the strength of a Caterpie to the strength of LEGENDARIES, within like, a week, a month tops? Red/Blue defeats the continent forming Groudon and is able to fight Rayquaza to a standstill. Sky can fight the embodiment of TIME to a standstill. - Why do the partners get so much stronger when in the presence of a human? Besides Super, the partner is an ordinary Pokemon. - How are humans chosen (like this video asks) - What happened to the humans that failed in Gates? Are they dead for good? When TVoL started yoinking humans, did they all come from the same world, or even timeline? What about their worlds, would they still have families to go back to? - If The Council does exist, why doesnt it get involved in future entires? Why did they let TVoL start grabbing humans who werent up to the task? Perhaps they were disbanded by this point, or Red is the last in the series chronologically? - Are all the humans children, or are they turned into young pokemon? In Super, they seem to be treated like a child out-right, but in Red, Sky and Gates, they're given the responsibility of their own home, or even a town. And in the case of Sky, they work for an actual guild, the closest thing to a company in that world. So either kids are given more responsibility, or only Super is canonically a child. Etc etc. I could go on forever, I wish we got expanded content regarding this stuff, but then I guess it would rob the Mystery from the Mystery Dungeon?

Also remember that in gates to infinity you didn't get a quiz to determine your pokemon, you just picked from a selection of 5, which could also show just how urgent that situation was. As for explorers, maybe you got chosen by celebi to help grovyle stop dialga from going insane, and you got connected to the voice of life after the time rift split up. And for super mystery dungeon it could be the same thing with mew, or maybe the voice of life figured that a human would be more suited for fighting against dark matter, and you only become a pokemon because your identity needed to be hidden so the pokemon possessed by dark matter couldn't find you

Thank you for covering the Voice of Life! Hydreigon is a character I muse a great deal about so I wanted to share one of my own observations. In the post game when he is explaining how to help the Hero return to the Pokemon World, there's a piece of dialogue from Hydreigon that goes like this: "I communicated with the Voices of Life from various lands. I gathered a great deal of information." in a similar line of thought to your pointing out that Gardevoir uses the word 'we' when discussing who chose that human, I think this is worth studying... This could imply that Hydreigon has to relegate his physical form to be concentrated in a single area... thus at that moment his inherent information only comes locally-- this could explain why the greater world of Gates wasn't mentioned during the threat of the Bittercold-- because Hydreigon can only obtain certain info close by (like that of the routes of dungeons to return to paradise) when in his physical form. It could maybe explain how he so quickly tracked down Emolga, Dunsparce, Virizion, Espeon, and Umbreon after being shattered by Kyurem... or, much more interestingly, it could imply the existence of MULTIPLE voices of life relegated to specific areas whilst one region's vocal collection is in its physical form, so there could even be multiple beings like Hydreigon with the same goals and ideas in mind running around I would easily say he just gathered info from Pokemon across the land, but the term was capitalized in game, so... I figured it would be neat to drop here! I loved the video!!

Thank you for this comment! I didn’t know about that line so thank you for sharing it, I definitely would buy into the theory that there could be multiple incarnations of the Voice of Life across the PMD world that take on different forms and communicate to each other through a shared mind… it’s really interesting! Gates is honestly a goldmine of lore and insight into how the PMD universe works and I wish it wasn’t slept on so much

I haven't played Rescue Team in forever, I completely forgot about Gardevoir being the one who brought you here. Haven't played GTI either, so that was new. I find it interesting that Legendary Pokémon don't step in to at least bring Humans in. Maybe most aren't capable of it, but we know Dialga probably is. After all, he undid you being erased in the ending of EoS. I always considered it a reactionary thing from the world itself, or even a byproduct of disasters, but the idea that there's an entire COUNCIL is very interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind, it'd be very interesting in a PMD&D Campaign. Awesome video!

Going on an adventure in mystery dungeon may not be as fun as it sounds. Based on what games I've played in the series, they seem to have a slightly darker and more mature theme to them. The villains don't challenge you with the intent of making you faint, or winning some prize money. They're trying to straight up kill you, as they seek to bring about the apocalypse.

Okay SPOILERS FOR ALL 4 GAMES HERE: The only games where I would say the player was a “chosen one” would be rescue team and GTI. Gardevoir and Hydreigon seem to kind of fill a similar role being a spiritual guide to the player and they seem to imply that the player was chosen in some way by them and others as they both use “we” observed you and chose you in those conversations. It’s been awhile since I’ve replayed the games but I feel like I remember both of them saying the player also consented to it. If not then I know for sure that the Super protagonist did. Again further proves my case that the Explorers protagonist definitely had it the worst since they came from a dystopian future, did not consent, and then literally got erased from existence. The GTI protagonist definitely had a loving family that missed them and while I’m inconclusive on RT, I can say that it definitely seems like the both got to choose to come back and that there is some dimension travel from the human as the Pokémon mention humans being “fairy tales”. Whereas in EOS and Super, the human player worked with Pokémon at some point. This might just be me filling in blanks but the protagonists of both Explorers and Super were not really chosen because they already had prior involvement to the story (the explorers player having been working with Grovyle to save the future and the super player having already fought dark matter with the partner in the past). A bit of a side tangent, Grovyle mentions some sort of council which seems to mean that there were other Pokémon and possibly humans in the bad future coming to an agreement that it needed to be prevented. Interesting that nobody ever talks about that. I am so tempted to make a comic for EOS that adds onto the story by elaborating on lore like that.
