Per Leica's description: - quote - Leica’s PL S-APO objectives come very close to the top-quality objectives of the Leica PL APO class - end quote -, therefore s-apo stands for semi-apo which puts them in between the fluotars and the apo's. The IR corrected apo's are named IRAPO by Leica

Hello Oliver. Can you use a trinocular/binocular compound microscope as a metallurgical microscope if you stick a flashlight into one of the eyepieces? I'm interested in looking at silicon dies at high magnification, hoping to see the Bayer filter on an old phone/webcam VGA camera sensor, etc. Thanks.

I would just like to present some info for your viewers so that they can appreciate the level of cost for routine Olympus microscopes and objectives for medical pathology labs. Olympus is the leader in North America for pathology. Going back several years, the U Plan SAPO series of objectives were commonplace among active, working, pathologists who use BX50, 60 series microscopes in their labs (and offices). For example, a basic Olympus U Plan SAPO 20x objective (P/N 1-U2B825) would set you back $2948 new (2019 pricebook). Pathologists use 2x, 4x, 10x, 20x, 40x APO's (or SAPO's) most of the time. The need for 60x and 100x is more important for hematopathology in special cases. And, ........and, ...this is only for "brightfield" inspection and analysis of tissue specimens to arrive at diagnostic details and outcome(s). Much thanks once again to Oliver for his time, talent, knowledge, and GREAT presentations !

so the Journey To The Microcosmos youtube channel is using Super Apochromatic Objectives because of the pretty darn good image quality?
@MicrobehunterMicroscopy
@MicrobehunterMicroscopy 4 жыл бұрын
They are using Differential Interference Contrast (DIC), which gives a 3D like appearance. This has nothing to do directly with the type of objective used, but I assume that they have at least Fluorite objectives, because this is what is common when using this type of technique.

This was helpful. I am looking to upgrade my Brunel SP35 binocular microscope to switch from the supplied objectives to Nikon ones. But looking at the various options, I am not sure buying Nikon Achromatic objectives at nearing £442 for a 10x, 40x and 60x inc £12 postage from a reputable supplier makes any sense or would be noticeably sharper than the ones I have. I adore Nikon lenses as I have been using Nikon lenses in photography for almost 50 years now and know how good they are, but is spending so much for the same type of lenses worth it just for the sake of having a Nikon brand? The Nikon Plan Apochromatic lens, I would love to have a 20x one, is away beyond my budget and only by some miracle would I ever be able to afford one.

Hi Oliver; good info on the objectives; would you speak about changing a microscopes magnification by changing the eye piece / oculars. 'Standard' is usually 10x; but what about changing to 5x, 20x, 25x, 30x... ; for both stereo and compound scopes? I have a small stereo scope, that came with 10x for 20x and 40x magnification; for that mag', I found the field of view to be too small, so I changed to 5x eye pieces for 10x, 20x magnification; larger field of view; much better for my general purpose... Thanx...

Lower magnification eyepieces (5x instead of 10x) is possible, but higher magnification will produce larger and more blurry images. So if you want higher magnifications, then you should change objectives to get a clear picture. High mag eyepieces also might be less comfortable to use, due to lower eye-relief (have to move closer to eyepiece to see)

I have a problem.I bought a 60x normal objective for my microscope. But it doesn’t work like it fits into the microscope but i cant see any slides but it works with every other objective that i have. The 60x is a bit smaller which could be the problem but why would that be? I just dont know what to do because i dont want to uae my oil obj.

What is the make and model of your scope ? What is the brand for the 60x objective ? Did you buy the objective new or used ? Please list ALL of the text that is on the barrel of the 60x lens. Regards, Gary S.

@@orestesc2803 The SW350T is a very good beginner microscope. So, when you install the 60x objective, does it thread smoothly into nosepiece ? Are you threading-in the 60x objective completely all the way in ? Are you using the 10x EYEPIECES when using 60x objective ? Do not use ANY eyepieces that are greater than 15x magnification. The 25x eyepieces that come with Swift and AmScope microscopes are useless when using 40x, 60x, and 100x objecitves. So, remember, ..........only use the 10x eyepieces while you are trying to figure out what is causing poor quality imaging with 60x objective. Where did you buy the 60x objective ? What was the cost of 60x objective ? If the 60x objective is SMALLER diameter than the other objectives, then it is not intended for STANDARD microscope and WILL NOT fit. It is for childrens TOY microscopes and cannot be used on your 350T microscope. Also, like you, I do not like using 100x objective unless I need to view white blood cells (which is rare). Both of my microscopes use: ____________4x, 10x, 20x, 40x, and 60x objectives. A few months ago, I purchased a new AmScope 60x objective for ( $57 USA + free shipping) and it is far better than I expected for ultra LOW cost. The remainder of my objectives are all Olympus. If you buy a new 60x from AmScope, make sure you buy the 160mm type. Do not buy the "infinity corrected" type. The 350T has standard 160mm tube length. Gary S.

Not possible unless you have the tools to grind and polish your own lenses. And this would be much more expensive than buying one. Check Aliexpress.com for microscope objectives. You can make yourself a single small lens by melting a glass rod over a gas flame.
