I mean it's really funny but at the same time I think about all the actual emotional damage it did to me and how 20 years later I'm still working on fixing it. This is very very accurate. @Steven He Yeah, but you're doing it... And not just working to fulfill your dreams, but becoming successful at it too! Compare your success to my sad but true story: I'm older now, but could never shake my mother's voice in my head telling me I wasn't pretty enough to be an actress, and that I should be a lawyer. All I dreamed of since age 3 was acting--it was simply who I was at my core. My parents turned down the invitation we got for me to audition at age 5 for one of the old Hollywood studios. Still don't know how they saw a pic of me. We lived in Northern California, so driving there was possible, but my parents wouldn't take me. I was crushed; I cried and cried. I wanted acting, singing, and/or dancing lessons but got none. Yet, I was forced to take ACCORDION lessons 🤦‍♀️ that I hated. Even with no help and threats from my parents, I auditioned in high school and got virtually all leading roles. In my Senior year, I was voted most talented in our school, and unexpectedly a won a Bank of America acting award/small scholarship (I didn't even know I was being considered for) to college. Fought my parents to go to UCLA (my father didn't even believe in education for girls though it was the 80s not the 30s!) and I had to work all during college to pay for much of my expenses. I began majoring in Theatre Arts, but inside, I felt inferior and ugly, even though I was not (wasn't gorgeous either, but acceptably cute). So I changed majors. My mother died unexpectedly in my Junior year, and I was devastated. You already can tell that after graduation, I tried to force myself to go to law school. I was always academically smart, so I got into some very good schools, but hated law school so much that I dropped out. (Probably wouldn't have dared to do that if my mom were still alive.) Taught Junior High & High School English and Theatre for a few years while I got my Master's Degree in Theatre, then tried to force myself to go back to work as a paralegal for severals years!! During the end of my 20s and early 30s, I was sooo unhappy and unfulfilled. After other life difficulties, such as my only sibling becoming a severely brain-injured quadriplegic on life support, my immune system gave out, and I became ill. I never used my Theatre Master's Degree professionally, and I never returned to acting. The rest of my story just remains sad, so I'll stop there. Looking back now and comparing my raw talent and appearance as a 20 and 30-year-old, I can see that I would have at least had a chance in Hollywood. And as a child, I was really precocious and cute, and certainly with a studio's backing, I would have been cast. But my parents wouldn't give me a chance, and later when their voices remained in my head, I wouldn't give myself permission either. So to Steven, and everyone who has been insistent enough to go after their dreams, I say BRAVO! Never Give Up because life is shorter than you think, and it was never intended to be lived unhappily!

Thankyou for addressing the issue about attention deficit disorder and how parents try to brush it off I am an Asian more precisely a South indian. I remember when I was 15 I first told my parents that something was not right with how my brain works they said im just stressing out but 3 yrs later I was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and I'm currently under treatment.
