Personally I'm of the opinion Bryce's rookie year never had a chance. The front office basically went out of it's way to make this a disaster. Trading their best picks for the next two years was bad enough but then they threw in what would've been his best weapon to boot, all while being developed by a coaching staff that didn't even want him in the first place.

As a Carolina fan lamenting the absolute awesomeness that is CJ Stroud: It wouldn't have mattered whether or not we drafted Stroud. We have absolutely NOTHING to offer any quarterback in this team- no reliable wideouts, no offensive line to give a quarterback any time, a running back that, quite frankly, wasn't worth the money he was paid (shout out to Chubba Hubbard though!), and our best reciever is a tight end that cannot make the same impact that Travis Kelcie does. We don't even have enough hope for a good draft pick- Bears took that from us, along with the one thing that Bryce Young could have used, DJ Moore. Face it- Since Cam didn't dive for the ball after that fumble during the Super Bowl, we've never been the same. All i can hope as I cry into an Asheville based IPA to sleep is that next year isn't as bad.

I always feel like if you take your fandom out of it, you can see and understand a player better...for better or worst. At a distance it can be seen what the Panthers issues are. It can be seen what Bryce needs to work on. Example I'll give is Jordan Love. Love looks promising in every game but if you don't watch his play and just see box scores, he looks bad. It doesn't take into account injuries, bad OL play, mind numbing playcalling, bad field position, and having young WRs who struggle running routes. A QB can only do so much when they aren't on their back, when WRs are open and not dropping the ball, when the defense gets stops, and when special teams get good field position.

The one thing Young seems to have going for him is a level head and probably the right attitude to work through this rough start to his pro career. @smothersu3932 It's not Reich's fault that Carolina ownership and front office have no idea what they're doing. He knew this little kid wasn't an NFL Qb. He wanted Stroud. He's not a miracle worker there's just nothing to work with with Young. Giving up what they did to move up just to take a guy like this might go down as one of the dumbest moves in history. Tepper may think he's the next Jerry Jones, but he definitely isn't. You have to build a bad team through the draft, not give up really valuable picks just to take a guy that doesn't even belong in the league.

@smothersu3932 It's Bryce's fault because he's a fraud. His ass should have worked out at the combine alongside the other QBs so his draft projection could fall to the 5th round where it belongs. He's cocky and arrogant beneath that "soft smart nice guy" complex he carries. He's an impoviser. Improvisers do what they want. Nevermind a playbook. Nevermind actual strategy. Nevermind technique and form. Just hike the ball and "create". He's too small and slow with a weak arm to do that in the NFL. Kyler Murray barely skating by and Bryce ain't him.

I’m writing this comment at the intro, so ol’ Randy Brandy might address this in the video-I think that people have kinda forgotten that most QBs need time to develop into something great. ESPECIALLY given his size, I was skeptical of the whole “most pro ready” tag he got. Some QBs are able to absolutely shine right off the rip, most aren’t. Not to mention the immense impact coaching has. Look at Tua with McDaniel vs prior years, or any Jets QB ever. I’m a Redskins fan, so no emotional attachment to the kid-Zach Wilson was doomed the minute he went to the Jets. They don’t exactly have a history of great QBs, and his confidence had to have been sapped by the end of last season. Then he gets training camp to watch A-Rod-then he’s starting. He’s shown flashes here and there, so the underlying talent is there. Gotta be hard to have confidence, a QB necessity, when the whole world is dunking on you 24/7. Maybe if he had half-decent coaching, more time to shadow a vet, less confidence-crushing public breakdowns, and a few more MILF rendezvous, he could have grown into a decent NFL QB. In my opinion, Bryce Young has even less to work with than Zach had, so if he does have a chance to develop into a pro bowl QB, he’s gonna need some time and patience from the fan base-good luck with that one. At the end of the day I genuinely feel bad for these kids. Sure, I’d kill to be a “horrible” #1 draft pick QB in the NFL, even with all the hate. But I’ve also got almost a decade more life experience, and I didn’t grow up being told I was the best football player in every league I played in, only to suddenly struggle, hear my idols talk about how bad I am, and get constant hate and god knows what else from the fan base. Gotta be rough, psychologically. I wish them the best, unless they’re playing the Redskins. Edit: I don’t think that “Perna? I hardly knowa!” has forgotten development, more the public at large

To be fair, none of his problems on the panthers right now is because of his height. He had a few ints because he was slow, buts thats coaching. He has to step back a little bit to read the field. The problem, is a 1.2 second pocket , no WR separation, shitty defense, terrible running backs, a Coach who didn't want you to begin with then he got fired so now you are working with a fresh coach with no off season to scheme, no wr to make plays, no fans in the stands to help cheer you on, and then you have Stroud who comes in as a stud and everyone hates you and blames you and they see you are small and short and just rags on you the whole time.. Yet he still maintains his composure , stays calm cool and collected, and still got labeled the most accurate passer in the league and he is a ROOKIE. His tiny ass took how many sacks this year from huge trucks and still standing. Im a bears fan, so I know shitty teams.

I have been to all of the Panther home games this season. I have no idea if Bryce Young is good or bad. The offensive line is bad, we have one good (older) receiver, we dont have much of a running game. The coaching appears to be questionable. I have not given up on him or anything, but I don't have any expectations at this point. I think that we will be terrible for a while. Maybe he'll be good. Maybe he won't. Maybe Tank Dell is another rookie phenom, but going into the season, everyone said that CJ Stroud was gonna be set up to failure whilst the Panthers had the best location for a rookie QB to succeed. I'm glad that that was never the case and all the analysts overlooked how good Bobby Slowik is at letting CJ cook.

Its clear watching Young, he doesnt have the tools to make players around him better. His arm strength is just average at best. Kyler Murphy overcame being 5'10 because he runs a 4.3 and has a cannon for a arm. Young is a bust at the 1.1 pick. If he was picked in the 2nd round. He would just be a project qb.

Young was a very streaky player in college, but a lot of scouts ignored that part of his game and instead focused on the big splash plays. He’s a good dude, and he’s bright, but those qualities don’t guarantee success at the NFL level. He would obviously look better with more talent around him, but the Eagles and 49ers aren’t trading for him-not unless they’re looking for a high-end backup.

The Panthers need to look at the Jaguars' model. Between Trevor Lawrence's first and second years, the Jags went to free agency to add 3 solid weapons. They likely paid above market value to get them, but when you're not viewed as a contender or even stable, you sort of have to do that.
@TrentonAmani

As a Panthers fan 9 minutes into this video I have to say it's not that he can't stretch the ball down the field he's actually has shown off his arm strength a lot but the timing with his receivers is off cause of their lack of getting separation or running their routes correctly.. his o-line usually let defenses get straight to him so by the time he's getting sacked his recievers haven't even got to the top of their routes ... sometimes he actually overthrow his receivers🤣 so I think his arm not being big enough is a false narrative. his arm isn't Pat Mahomes level but it's definitely on par with players like Jalen Hurts, Tua , Brock Purdy - he actually does show flashes , even when he played Stroud he got hit 7 times more than Stroud but his receivers were able to get decent separation so he played better than Stroud even though his receivers dropped a few big passes he was making Pat Mahomes like throws
@K1forMVP
@K1forMVP 7 ай бұрын
That’s the thing though he has a meh arm and there’s nothing extraordinary about young outside his accuracy. Kyler Murray is also smaller 5”10/220 but there’s several elite extraordinary aspects to Murray’s game from elite speed/athleticism/quickness to also possessing elite arm strength with one of the top 5-7 arms in the league, elite accuracy/ball placement and anticipation and polished mechanics . Young leaves much more to be desired and isn’t a generational athlete like Murray was.

@@exhaustguy I agree. I feel trading up for a qb only makes sense when the capital spent won’t handicap your franchise. The Chiefs were already a playoff team before the Mahommes trade they just needed him and a few more pieces to put them over the top. I think teams make the mistake of trading for the qb first and then trying to build the team after they’ve already used up vital capital to acquire said qb. The Panthers put Bryce in a bad situation from the start and because they traded away so much to get him they won’t be able to get much help for him in the next couple drafts and big time free agents probably aren’t going to want to sign in Carolina since they’re going be a bottom of the barrel team for the next few years so that’s gonna be even more detrimental towards his development.

Panthers fans thinking we wouldnt have more than 1 win with CJ are on some serious copium right now. Bryce hasn't done anything to elevate the team, he's still taking nonchalant slow drop backs, getting fairy feet, and just in general is not ready to throw when the ball needs to come out. He's looking to extend plays but instead is adding to his sack and hit totals making the problems in the OL look even worse than it is. Those guys on the OL are professionals too, and their career depends on Bryce being able to figure things out - not the other way around. By taking unnecessary sacks as much as he is, he is taking literal money and potentially careers away from guys on our OL. The pocket time stats don't support the "worst OL in the league" theory fans have dreamed up. The footwork isn't something he hasnt been taught before, what we are seeing is what his body reverts to under pressure - that is much harder to train out of a QB. You know when people describe guys being natural out of the pocket? That's what they are describing is an ability to keep their structure under pressure With that said, Bryce looks like he has the ability to improve, albeit marginally. I can see him realistically being a low end starter in the league, but we drafted him #1 overall so Panthers fans have every right to be upset. Not only that, but he is supposed to be worth 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and a star receiver. That kind of evaluation means Patrick Mahomes level talent OR BUST. We've obviously busted on the pick and would have been much better off drafting at our original pick with something to look forward to if we flopped (with an all new coaching staff on both sides of the ball, the chance of flopping rises exponentially) So how bad is he? Probably in the bottom 5 in the league, and that's being generous. I think there are plenty of guys not getting chances right now who are much more prepared than Bryce is right now. There are certainly guys with worse OL, doing more with less time in the pocket - and that is a statistical fact

Honestly, I feel like one of the few Panthers fans who believed that the team was a terrible fit for ANY of the QB prospects. Both the media and the team's front office tried to bamboozle everyone into thinking that they were "just a QB away" and that selling the farm would make them competitive. Stroud, Richardson, and even Levis would have struggled under the Panthers with no protection and no sustainable weapons. If anything, those other QBs would probably give us a few more wins, but to think that we would be dominating with them is asinine.

Trevor threw for 3600 yards his first year. He also had 2 or 3 elite level plays every other game or so. Bryce is trash dude. His NFL stats prove it. His stats in Alabama (beneath the surface level stuff ie: Total yards, TDs etc) also prove it. He's never been accurate over 15 air yards. Can't make identify defenses before the snap. So he holds the ball too long after the snap. Can't see from the pocket so first thought is to run away whether it's clean or not. Because of this bad habit....when he's forced to sit in the pocket...he runs to the pressure instead of away from it. This is why he was sacked in college 65 times. The Alabama OL was not bad. Neither is Carolinas...Bryce just makes them look bad. Even his college receivers saw better numbers with Mac Jones. The other receiver who transferred from GA...same thing. He had better numbers in GA than he did with Bryce in Alabama. Bryce doesn't make guys better. His physical limitations and inability pulls everybody down.
