I agree that the immediate shut down helped save your engine i watched you from the beginning to the end on your rebuilt you done a heck of a job sorry to see you have to go back through it but at least you don’t have to redo the whole engine if you can find a back up head I’m thinking that it might have a small crack some where we had a crack in our head on our J D two cylinder we had it welded drove it around a little it over heated we shut it down and your head gasket look like the way our J D looked took the head back off and like your shop ours did the same thing they did a manga flex test over it crack on the other side of the head so they done what they called cold welded it they heated the head and stuff the crack with JB weld they let it air dry for about a week ground down the weld and re heated it again stuffed it full again done that three times and no problems today I’m not saying that’s what it is but the way your head surfaced look was exactly the way ours looked on our John Deere wish you good luck

I started watching the whole restoration series after this video. I have to say I absolutely love hearing your dad talk. He reminds me so much of my dad who passed away several years ago. He was a farmer who served in the army. He was a mechanic his whole life. He worked for the city for years. He even preferred welding, and heavy maintenance over things like rebuilding carburetors. He would fabricate things for use on the farm like your dad. So many similarities. They were cut from the same cloth.
