Funny how you talk about a heresay prophecy of some Brahman about Sena Kingdom but comveninetly avoid the history that Sena Dynasty continued to rule Bengal well after Bakhtiyar Khilji. Bengal Proper wasnt captured by Bakhtiyar khilji. Bihar was. Except,there wasnt any Bihar then. It was part of Bengal. Bakhtiyar Khilji had come to Nabadwip (holy city with little to no military garrison) disguised as horse traders. They shocked the local police force of the city. Lakshman Sen made a tactical retreat to Bikrampur( Capital of Bengal) and along with his two sons reannexed Navadvip and pushed Bakhtiyar Khilji from Bengal Proper. Bakhtiyar Khilji never again ventured into direct conflict with the Senas. He was maimed in Kamrup expedition. Kamrup being a vassal kingdom of Senas. Lakshman Sena died in 1204 but during his reign some of the finest poets from Bengal were patronised-(Pancharatna- Poet Jaydev being the most popular of them) .Anyway, after his death( due to senile) his son Biswaroop sen succeeded the throne henceforth and according to some references had even launched an expedition to (Kashi)Kannauj around 1212A.D. After Sen Dynasty, Deva Dyansty of Bengal ruled Bengal from 1230 A.D. This was an East Bengal centred Dynasty encompassing today's East Bengal and Tripura.

Just a doubt, wen Bihar was started to be considered part of Bengal. I tht it was during Mughals . Because till Gupta's there was distinct magadh region which would have seen prosperity during 1000 years since mauryas. Such distinct regional identity do not die fast. You can make it part of Empire but identity will not die. Plus nalanda was created by Guptas I guess. Such influential institutions will not allow a regional identity to die out. My theory is that magadhs identity started to decline after demise of nalanda and was finished by the time of Mughal empire

Is it mentioned somewhere that Nadia is a city? In common understanding Nadia is a region not specifically a place. Nowadays it is a district. The boundaries seem close to what may have been a few hundered years ago though a part of it has been lost to EP. Another point of contention is this 18 horsemen version. This is a contested version.
@S.Ghosh_2212 жыл бұрын
It was Navadvip city to be specific in Nadia. Navadvip was a holy city and military deployment was kept less there. One flaw in this video is, that it only referred Turkic side of the narrative. Navadvip was infact reconquered by the Senas. And khiljis were pushed far up North. In subsequent years Khiljis had reached a status quo with Senas and tried to move further east from North which is when they encountered Kamrup. Khilji was injured in battle and subsequently died to his injuries in 1216A.D. Sena Dynasty continued to rule Lower Bengal and East Bengal well until 1230AD. after which Deva Dynasty took over. Now if one thinks Bengal was conquered by Bakhtiyar Khilji, then u could very well say, by that logic, that Muhmmad Qasim also conquered India.

AD 1212 that testifies to the erection of a sacrificial post and a pillar of victory by a Sena king of Bengal, Viśvarūpa, in the middle of Vārāņasī, designated as the holy field (kşetra) of Śiva Viśveśvara, the 'Lord of All.'39 The name 'Viśveśvara' occurs marginally in the 12th-century sur- vey of Laksmīdhara [TVK(LP), p. 93], but this sanctuary was to be- come the main symbol of the Hindu response to Muslim dominance. Thus was the beginning of the rise to holiness and fame of Viśveśvara or Viśvanātha, in the Hindus' darkest hour, when their rulers tried to recover from their deep humiliation. Reconstruction of sacred space had begun" Minhaj came to India after 1227. surely he wrote Tabaqat e nasiri between 1230- 1260. Bakhtiyar khalji died 602 AH i.e 1205.Minhaj wrote-lakhhan sena's descendant ruling bang in his time.Up to this time, i.e after 1230.25 years after death of khalji. Mihaj himself wrote "When the whole of Muhammad-i-Bakht-yar's army arrived, and the city and round about had been taken possession of, he there took up his quarters; and Räe Lakhmaniah got away towards Sankanāt and Bang, and there the period of his reign shortly afterwards came to a termination. His descendants, up to this time, are rulers in the country of Bang"

"While the Sena power was weakened by disruption within, it had to face the invasion of the Muslims who had by this time overrun the greater part of Northern India. Muhammad Bakhtyar Khalji, a Turkish officer, conquered the city of Bihar, and entered Bengal with a large army. According to the account given by Minhaj-ud-dln in his Tabaqat-i-Nasiri, the news of the advance of Muhammad Khalji created such a panic into the minds of the citizens of Nadiya, the capital city of Lakshmanasena, that most of them took to flight, but the king stayed on in the almost deserted city. Muhammad Khalji, at the end of his march, advanced with only eighteen soldiers a little forward from the main body of the army, and entered Nadiya without any opposition, as the guards and inhabitants of the city took them to be horse-dealers." A.D. 1202, and shortly afterwards wrested North Bengal from Lakshmanasena. But East Bengal, and probably also South Bengal, remained under the control of the Senas." There is no proof that Bakhtiyar Khilji destroyed Nalanda university.....Contemporary sources mention different place. The fortified monastery which Bakhtiyar captured was “known as Audand-Bihar or Odandapura-vihara” (Odantapuri in Biharsharif, then known simply as “Bihar”). Minhaj does not refer to Nalanda at all. He merely speaks of the ransacking of the “fortress of Bihar” (Hisar-i-Bihar). This is the view of many historians and, most importantly, of Sir Jadunath Sarkar, whose credibility is honoured even by right wing historians (History of Bengal, B.R. Publishing Corp., 2003). Furthermore, D N Jha, former Professor, Department of History, University of Delhi, in his article “Grist to the reactionary mill” (Indian Express, 9 July, 2014) on the destruction of Nalanda University, quotes that: “Tibetan monk and scholar, Taranatha, writes in ‘History of Buddhism in India’: ‘During the consecration of the temple built by Kakutsiddha at Nalendra [Nalanda] “the young naughty sramanas threw slops at the two tirthika beggars and kept them pressed inside door panels and set ferocious dogs on them”. Angered by this, one of them went on arranging for their livelihood and the other sat in a deep pit and “engaged himself in suryasadhana” [solar worship], first for nine years and then for three more years and having thus “acquired mantrasiddhi” he “performed a sacrifice and scattered the charmed ashes all around” which “immediately resulted in a miraculously produced fire”, consuming all the eighty four temples and the scriptures some of which, however, were saved by water flowing from an upper floor of the nine storey Ratnodadhi temple’ (History of Buddhism in India, written in the 17th century, English tr. Lama Chimpa & Alka Chattopadhyaya, summary of pp. 141f).This should mean, he continues, that “the idea of Brahminical hostility to the religion of the Buddha travelled to Tibet fairly early and became part of its Buddhist tradition, and found expression in the 17th-18th century Tibetan writings”. www.milligazette.com/news/7-analysis/11362-nalanda-university-when-history-is-not-history/
@JayVardhanSingh2 жыл бұрын
Firstly, I don't agree with D.N Jha's analysis, he uses a 17th-century text but ignores a contemporary text by Dharmasvamin, another Buddhist traveller who came to India in the early 13th century. Secondly, the sources which I have referred to all talk about the destruction of Nalanda and they aren't right-wing historians. Even if suppose I believe that Nalanda wasn't destroyed. Does this mean that Odantapuri and Vikramashila were also not destroyed by Khilji? Dharmasvamin also talks about how badly damaged Bodhgaya was. So this is also false.
