I spent most of my life in Baltimore, and I’m so proud of my hometown for having this brilliant idea for a ceasefire! Maybe it didn’t work in terms of no one being killed, but clearly it worked in terms of changing the way people felt and thought about the murders! And those murders don’t negate the power of this city coming together in the radical pursuit of peace! Thank you for your wonderful work! God bless you!
@ShankarSivarajan6 жыл бұрын
+PhoebeFay RuthLouise "brilliant idea". Sure, let's call it that.

You do understand what a ceasefire is right? It's kind of one of those things where either it worked or it failed.
@traceeford29146 жыл бұрын
Rat C The weekend before the ceasefire 12 people were shot, 4 died. The weekend of the ceasefire 2 people shot, 1 died. As a resident of Baltimore, I am safer with people like Erricka working to make changes than I am with people judging her work.

What Possible Relevance Does Her Lecture Have To Technology, Entertainment, or Design?!
@alala6826 жыл бұрын
There´s been plenty of talks not relating to that, why complain about this specific one?
@Hardin96 жыл бұрын
+Snowabile . Jiphethu If you look through the comment section of ANY TED lecture I comment on, you'll see my argument is always the same. I don't comment on EVERY TED lecture, I don't have unlimited time like that, but when I actually have the time to comment on a TED lecture, I say exactly what I'm saying here. The TED organization needs to change it's name, because they are being VERY MISLEADING by having speakers at their events talking about subject matters in NO WAY RELATED to Technology, Entertainment, or Design!
@demonic886 жыл бұрын
Surely what she is talking about is social engineering? That's design, and it was a demonstration of how powerful technology, entertainment and design are in fabricating better societies.

letsgoiowa That’s basically what we have to do. And, since gun control is not on the agenda for so many, ceasefires, peace talks and reconciliation processes are currently the only way to deal with continual, internecine violence.
@הדרהלוי-ב1ה6 жыл бұрын
letsgoiowa Yeah, I'm with you bro. We're sceptics. We don't care about ampirical evidence! We don't care that *this initiative acttually reduced violence*. It's hopefull and relies on the human spirit, so our predetermined beliefs say it can't work. That's what being a sceptic is all about.

I agree but I thought it was kinda odd that they made a TED about it almost a year and a half after it happened . The article I read actually made it sound like it made the murders worse, I'm kinda glad to hear it went halfway ok.

This is the longest explenation of "we feel feelings" I have ever heard and I doubt it's going to change anything. She needs to rise above the victim mentality and demand police is empowered to stop and prevent violence, and stop perpetuating the single mother parenting phenomenon that's leading men to gangs, suicide, prison ect

very powerful and uplifting. To those TED purists, why do you insist this platform not be used for good when it can be simply because the topic is not strictly about Technology, Engineering, or Design? Or that you are so narrow-minded to not see how you can look at this problem through the lens of Design. Violence is a product of the way our socio-economic systems are DESIGNED.

There was no ceasefire, this woman did absolutely nothing to help anybody except herself. A one day ceasefire is the dumbest things I've ever heard of. Sticking your finger in the leak of a sinking boat for one day doesn't solve anything, and nobody deserves any sort of credit for coming up with the idea.
