I'm just confounded how one person can create something as flawless as this. It's like watching an episode of Cosmos, except they had a whole big team of people working on that. Every aspect of your videos is rendered to the utmost quality. I frequently have to pause the video just to process how all of these layers are put together and animated. Apparently you must never sleep! I'm glad you enjoy doing your videos this way because you need to keep doing it forever. Awe-inspiring work once again, Siloe!

That means a lot Greg. It certainly has been a lot of work, but especially the research has been really interesting. 3/4 of the way of finishing I do get extremely tired of it especially having to do so much motion graphics, but that is just the nature of it. If the audience response warrants it I will continue with this format, even if I have to post here and there. Appreciate that you stopped by.

Siloe, you have completely outdone yourself. With all that animation, research, growth of plants, etc. it's unfathomable how long this took. When you say "hundreds of hours" at the end. I absolutely don't doubt it. Incredible history lesson!
@suburbanhomestead3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Summer. I decided to pull all the stops and make videos I would like to watch 10 years from now. That, coupled with the fact that I don't have much of a life, resulted in this. :-) I'm not going to lie that having to cater to the "fast-video" social media format never really appealed to me, hence my inactivity on Instagram. I suppose I get a bit of tunnel vision with a project an don't like to have to devote mental space with other constant things. An ethnobotanical view of garden plants always interested me and its not a format you see very often. I'm happy to hear you appreciate the hundreds of hours to make this possible. Research is definitely a big chunk of that, which oddly enough I've come to enjoy the most. Having to do all the motion graphics does take a toll, but if there is genuine interest for this style and approach, I'll continue slowly, even if I post very seldom.

I worked at a sugar beet processing plant for a while. My job was to take a sample from each truck load and clean the dirty outer parts off using a machete and then throw the cleaned beet into a "pulping machine" (think wood chipper) and it would spit a small amount onto a conveyor belt that went into the laboratory where it was tested for sugar content. Once that was determined, the farmer was paid for his beets based on the sugar content.

love the stories, enjoy the background information, get inspired by your garden design, get happy to see the love for plants, but most of all I have to state that you are probably the best dressed gardener ever. Thank you, indeed, for all you share

Such a beautiful "video"! Did not know this part of history. Thank you for the insight. Blessings!

Thanks. History of food is intrinsically to the history of everything, it mirrors humans endeavors and I feel it is fascinating.

Your videos have such an elegance & wholesome simplicity to them that I adore. Also fabulous information. By the way- to help with those dried chard seeds I recommend gingerly placing a paper bag over the seed stalk starting from the bottom up. Angle it down slightly, so gravity doesn’t steal any more seeds. Then cut the stalk. You can then process the seeds this way without losing as many. Hope this helps, and I love sharing your videos with my toddler daughter as we are just starting our first cottage forest garden in our new home. I’ll be sharing your videos with my friends and family. Peace & peonies to you!

What an amazing piece of work, cant imagine how long it took. The animations alone are stunning and beautiful photography. And of course I learnt a a lot about beets. I am someome who has this problem of only being able to smell/taste the earthy aromas but love to grow beets and love chard. Thank you.

love love love this! I had no idea how much beet played a role from saving folks from starvation and slavery! I love beets even more now. You did such an amazing job explaining the story and production, not to mention the aesthetics are so savory. Would love to see more of this format with other crops and herbs. The mix of history, growing tips, and cooking is splendid.

Awesome video! Beets are one of my favorite vegetables, I’m planting a few different varieties this year ranging from a sugar beet to a giant mangel!
@suburbanhomestead3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. I wonder how succulent mangels really are, considering their history as fodder. Haven't tried to grow it yet.

You are indeed an artist on MANY ways. I clicked this one because I stink at growing beets but I want to grow them so badly. I LOVE pickled beets. I feel I now know everything there is to know about the beets I so love.

Really great video! I can really tell how much work you put in to these videos. Obviously, I wish you uploaded more often, but also I don’t mind waiting. I didn’t get a notification, nor did it show up on my feed, even after refreshing. I knew to search for it because I saw your Instagram post. 😉 Thank you, your work is amazing!

Thanks for letting me know. That is very sad and disheartening to know that it won't show up in your notifications despite clicking the bell (or your home page) I'm glad you found it at the end of the day.
