The Hays Code was implemented in the 1930s due to a string of morality scandals. It was aimed at cleaning up Hollywood's image, but how did it affect gay actors like William Haines, Judy Garland, and Liza Minelli?

William Haines and Jimmy Shields are #Goals. The guts you need to negotiate that space is unreal.

Mispronunciations are the result of using AI narrators. I watched a documentary on the dangers of AI & was surprised that it didn't mention the proliferations of fake narrators. Pehaps it can't be considered a "danger" but it is indeed annoying as hell to me. And damn you! Now I'm going to be humming Liza with a "Z" all afternoon.

I believe it was Joan Crawford who said William Haines and Jimmy Shields had the best marriage in Hollywood.

The Hays Code was the worst thing that happened to Hollywood. People of Colour lost out on parts, female leads were in a precarious position and complexity in storytelling was sidelined.

White women actually got better roles until “free love” became a thing. Then all the female leads were pushed to be nude or nearly nude. Especially in 70’s B and C list movies which are needed to climb your career. People of color were not being cast in great roles by white Hollywood regardless unless it was a race storyline movie or scene. Black people were pretty much absent unless it was a “Black movie” or they were a maid or slave. You can’t blame the Hayes code for that. The studios had a choice, listen to the Hayes code which was also popular thought for highly religious audiences and take the box office hit or comply and sell more tickets. The reason why the Hayes code even came in was because Hollywood started showing too much booze and sexuality during the Great Depression to sell tickets the easy way “selling sex”. By the 70’s and 80’s there was almost nothing wholesome. This even effected black actresses in “black exploitation” films. The main characters being exploited were the women. Foxy Brown had to be nude and raped and fondled on screen to be famous. That is NOT a win for black actresses.
