I live in Pennsylvania, which is not one of the largest states. However, from the New Jersey border to the Ohio border is about 6-7 hours when driving it. I know it way too well because I live about an hour from New Jersey and my son went to college 30 minutes from Ohio. I made that trip so many times - round trip (yes, a 14-hour ride in the car in one day)! The US is huge... we sometimes don't even realize it because it's just home.

There's a difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. The figure the video gave is for legal immigrants. It would be cool to see a video of the relative distances. Like a overlay of the UK onto the 48 contiguous states. Or over Alaska. Or Europe overlaid. Distance from London to Paris overlaid onto the US.
@gbulmer

Good ideas, but you'd probably find the UK laughably small. 11 US states are bigger than the UK: Alaska = 7.05 UKs Texas = 2.86 UKs California = 1.74 UKs Montana = 1.56 UKs New Mexico = 1.29 UKs Arizona = 1.21 UKs Nevada = 1.17 UKs Colorado = 1.11 UKs Oregon = 1.04 UKs Wyoming = 1.03 UKs Michigan = 1.03 UKs London Heathrow Airport (West of London) to Paris Charles De Gaulle in 216 miles, and takes about 1hr 15-25min. I guess the 'plane might not even reach full speed when it needs to start slowing down. Best Wishes. ☮

The illegal immigration is killing the United States and England. The English should be even more pissed off because they don’t have infinite amount of room. People can’t even afford all the needs there and they have illegals coming over being put into nice hotels and then they cry about that. I would never let a single person in that didn’t do it legitimately and actually wait like a normal human being.

Having grown up in the US and never having traveled abroad, I guess I never thought about having to spend 13 hours driving from my home in CA to visit relatives in Utah, or driving up the CA coast to family reunions in Oregon and being in the car for 10 hours. Heck, we just moved our mother into a long term care facility in a town 30 minutes south of us with no hesitation because we can easily spend the 30 minute to get there for visits. I guess it really is all about perspective.

I like to use airline flights for the British to comprehend how large America is. It is a five hour flight from London to Tel Aviv, yes to another continent. It is a five and a half hour flight from New York City to Los Angeles, six hours from Boston to Los Angeles, and seven hours from Miami to Seattle. Notice I didn't mention Alaska or Hawaii. It is a seven hour flight from London to Toronto, across an ocean to another hemisphere, the same seven hour flight from Miami to Seattle...

Nice reactions. To give you a perspective if you drove from the eastern most point in the U.S. (Maine) to the west coast Pacific Ocean without going through Canada at legal speeds would take a least 5 days . This is driving around 750 to 800 miles (1200 to 1280 kilometers) a day.which is a very very long day of driving.I have driven this far in a day a.couple times and it is not fun. A You Tube video by Lawrence of Lost in the Pond directly compares the size of the U.S.to Great Britain. It is very interesting? You gentlemen have a blessed day.

*How big is the United States!!!???* The United States is so big that Canada is just a measly 1.5% larger than the U.S. in grand total area. (Water and land area combined) However the U.S. actually still has more total land area than Canada. And the U.S. has far more habitable land area than Canada. The United States is so big, that there are 11 individual U.S. states that could fit the whole of the UK inside each of them. Texas alone can fit the whole of the UK inside of it 3x over! And yet Alaska is still more than twice the size of Texas. The U.S. is so big, that the lower 48 states alone is wider than the diameter of the Moon. To get the lower 48 states to fit on the moon, the U.S. map of the lower 48 states would have to partially wrap around the moon. The U.S. is so big that even when not including Alaska and Hawaii and the U.S. territories, the lower 48 states are still just slightly larger than Australia. And Australia is a continent. (Let that one sink in) The U.S. is so freaking huge, that the entire European Union which consists of 27 countries isn't even half the size of the U.S. In fact the U.S. is 2.3x larger than the EU and nearly the exact same size as the European continent. (And keep in mind that half of the European continent consists of all of western Russia from the Ural Mountains west and the entirety of the EU for the rest of the continent.) That's how big the United States is!!!!!!!!!!! (Altogether the U.S. is a solid 40x larger than the whole of the UK.) Aka....Massive! 😉

I find these videos a bit misleading to be honest. The US by logic is going to get the higher numbers for most things purely because it has one of the biggest land spaces in the world, with a huge population. To truly compare, you'd need to do all sorts of complicated maths stuff to get the true proportional rate. And higher/ bigger isn't always better, either. Just look at Covid. The US had one of the highest mortality figures (if not THE highest) in the world, but if you took the numbers as a percentage of the population instead, the UK figures were higher (if I'm not mistaken, that is). I don't like statistics for precisely this reason. You can present them in different ways to suit whatever you want. As I said, so misleading. China's stats weren't a surprise regarding GDP and military etc, but I never knew India had such a large military. 😮

I live in Texas and it can easily take me 7 hours just to get to the gulf for a beach trip and I am SILL in Texas after seven hours of driving lol. Me and my husband were traveling to New Mexico and we drove almost ten hours before we decided to stop for the night and we hadn't even made it out of the state yet, it's crazy to travel in America and flying is your best bet if you're wanting to get anywhere in a decent amount of time or be willing for LONG road trips, I have a few friends in other countries and I still remember my friend from India coming for a visit and she was staying with me in Texas for a few days, she completely underestimated the size of America and was only able to do half the things she planned because it just wasn't feasible time wise because she forgot to factor in travel time, just because a flight might only take and hour, traveling from the airport to your planned destination can be hours away still.

It’s not like people WANT to go to Turkey making it number #3: It’s the only place the millions of Muslim refugees over the past few years CAN go to, because of geography. They can’t get a visa and get on a plane and decide to open a kabob shop on Miami Beach. Also, per capita, Canada has the most restrictive immigration policies on the continent. The numbers they allow in are pitiful compared to the U.S., although Trudeau would like to make the world think they’re such an incredibly welcoming country for immigrants.

@@lordlockdown64 Yes! Driving on the left is much safer. I've had a shufti at Wikipedia, "List of countries by traffic-related death rate". US drivers are decimating the population, by all measures between 2x and 4x worse than the UK (the measures are deaths/100,000 people, deaths/100,000 cars, deaths/billion km driven). Though, there is a contributory factor; the US driving test is very easy. I took the US driving test while I was living there. For the practical, I was driving much less than 10 minutes. It went so quickly I thought I'd somehow failed. I did very few manoeuvres. But I'd passed! I was part of a mass driving-practical test. More than 100 16yo kids and me. The 16yo kids were also getting full driving licenses with less than 10 minutes demonstrating competence. AFAIK, the UK test is easier than Germany or Sweden. Best Wishes. ☮

If you want to immigrate legally to the USA, you must have proof that you can financially sustain yourself. When my wife’s younger sister, brother-in-law and nephew wanted to immigrate from Vietnam, we have to provide financial documents and proof of ownership of where they would live. It took seven years for the ok for them to immigrate due to conflicts and misunderstanding between the US government and communist Vietnamese government. Some countries don’t like citizens, who contribute to their economy, to leave.

To put this in perspective, US interstate highway I20 runs strait through Texas from El Paso on the western edge of Texas to Texarkana on the eastern boarder of Texas and Arkansas. If you leave El Paso on I20 heading east at sun up on the longest day of the year it will be dark again before you reach Texarkana. If you are doing around the speed limit, you cannot drive across Texas in daylight. A few weeks ago I moved from Pahrump Nevada, about 45 Minutes north west of Las Vegas, to Snyder Texas about 4 hours east of Dallas. That was an 1100 mile, 18 hour drive. I lived in Las Vegas for about 7 years and running into tourists from other countries in Las Vegas is a common occurance. I can't tell you the number of people who came on vacation to the US with the intention of visiting Vegas foir a few days and driving over to Washington DC for a day trip or heading the beach in San Diego for a few hours. From Vegas, it will take you about 6 hours to get to San Diego. Washingtonm DC is 2457 miles from Las Vegas and will take a stasggering 36 hours to drive there if you are lucky and can avoid traffic jams. The numbers given in the infographics video are big but just in terms of landmass alone, the US is HUGE.

So interesting point about the immigration thing! Certain areas of the US are naturally far more familiar to certain groups of immigrants than others (even though people of every nationality/race/religion live in every state and region) For example, many people in the southern US speak Spanish, as many of the immigrants that go to those places come from Latin America. Specifically southern Florida has a much higher population of Cuban and Caribbean immigrants due to its geographic location. Other regions of the country, like Louisiana, attract immigrants from Vietnam and other countries in indochina, leading to a food/cultural phenomenon known as “Viet-Cajun” which has become increasingly popular in the last few decades. The reason for this is the wet and humid climate of Louisiana and Mississippi are more comfortable and familiar to people from Vietnam and other humid/wet places around the word. Vietnamese immigrants found the area much more adaptable. Meanwhile, many Russian, German, Scandinavian and Dutch immigrants moved to places like Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin in the Great Lakes region because of the climate. This is why the football mascot of Minnesota are Vikings, and why much of the food and culture there derived from Northern European culture. Maryland is also another example of diversity. Except this was primarily religious diversity. It was founded as a colony where Catholics and Protestants could live together and forget about their beef back home in England and Europe, and much of the culture there comes not only from England but from Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Italy, France and other prominent catholic and Protestant nations. More recently, many East and South Asian immigrants have moved to the area especially central Maryland, and even some areas are referred to as “Koreatown” or “Little Korea” Mexican immigrants specifically spend a lot of time in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California (also because many people had and still have family or friends on both sides of the border. This is also naturally why immigration from Mexico is much more of a hot topic than immigration from Canada (even though most immigrants illegally come from airports and not across the southern border)

One of the national/federal teaching requirements for school boards is that thay must accommodate students that do not speak English, meaning they must provide interpreters. Montgomery county is northwest of DC in the State of Maryland. That school system must accomodate over 250 different foreign languages. As they say, America is the great melting pot. Our last Governor for Maryland, a Mr. Larry Hogan, his wife was born in South Korea. Just two examples of how diverse the USA is.

Here's one, I live on the Western side of North Carolina in the mountains, and when I travel to the Beach to check out the Atlantic Ocean from time to time, it's between a 5.5 hour and 6 hour trip - one way and by car, just depending on which Beach I want to visit:) HA! Peace...

Even at its founding in 1776, with only 13 states along the east coast, the US was still larger than UK, Germany, and France combined

We live in Central Illinois about an hour east of Springfield Illinois which is our State Capitol and it takes us roughly 14 hours to drive to Florida. We are about 2 hours from St. Louis Missouri by car. About 2 hours from Terre Haute, Indiana and it takes us about 3 hours to get to Chicago from where we live right here in Illinois. We have tons of small towns between these bigger cities so have no real need or desire to go to the big city and do all that driving. We have a small town in every direction from us that are literally 5-10 miles down the road in every direction. We have most if not all our needs met within 5-10 miles with “going to town”(the bigger towns) which are smaller than big cities but bigger than us, which are about 15 miles away to either our north or south and those towns have everything we need. We only go to the big huge cities like Chicago and St. Louis when needing to fly or a day trip for fun to go to museums, the Sears Tower (Willis Tower now), Chicago style pizza, The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, to watch the Cardinals Play at Busch Stadium, etc. We don’t like driving long distance or stop lights and prefer the slow pace of our little towns which have no stop lights and very few stop signs and no traffic jams. Our small town has a population of 1200 people. That’s double the population that I grew up in lol. Driving long distances to the really big cities is normal and we’re used to it but it isn’t something we do very often unless it’s for fun like a day trip or weekend stay.

I was surprised to learn that neither of you understood the grandeur of the United States. not just its beauty but the size of it as a whole. There's a reason it's 11 hours from Heathrow to Lax because 6 hours or more of that is spent flying coast to coast over the US.

The US is 25 times bigger than Germany and have 900000 imigrants a year. Germany takes 350000 imigrants a year. That to be equal the US had to take 8.75 mil. imigrants a year. Or the other way round Germany had to take only 36000 imigrants. So who takes the most imigrants on this Planet ? This Video is just nonsens. I'm german, we are fucked!!!

Numbers alone do not tell the story of just how big the US is. For example, they don't tell you that you can literally drive in the state of Texas for days and still be in Texas after two day of driving. Granted it all depends on the route you take and how fast you are willing to drive. If you are just driving from the east side to the west side, then you can cross it in 11 hours of highway driving. If you are taking a route that isn't direct then it can take a couple of days worth of driving to cross Texas. Also the US is over 5 MILLION square miles, not 1 million Are they welcome? As long as they come to the US legally the answer is absolutely YES! America is made up of peoples from all over the planet, but one thing we hate are people that cheat and take shortcuts to get into the country and politicians that think it is okay for people to cheat to get in ahead of the people waiting in line and doing it legally.

Question for you BPR guys (but another Tommy can answer), do you use the metric system in GB or rather the imperial system?
@joekel55
@joekel55 2 жыл бұрын
Imperial of course, they still consider themself as the biggest empire in the world, at that time they said " the sun will never set in the empire." ( britannia rules the waves.kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mzeX9qhp1pqpY ) but when all their colonys declared independence they were no more.

We actually use both 😆 Distance we still generally use miles as opposed to kilometers, and weight measurements are usually imperial for the most part. Even when metric is displayed, people generally still say pounds and ounces. At least, we do in my neck of the woods (Wales).

@Liamberlin Ah, I see that our channel fave, EnderOllie 4 has already popped in a reply. As she has stated, we use imperial for almost everything, fuel we buy in Litres and the the price is displayed in Litres but we still mentally calculate it to Gallons. Although when I am doing DIY I use the metric system as I find it more accurate and easier to work with, but I give my height in Feet and inches.😆😆 We totally confuse ourselves oh and drinks are always in pints!!

Good reaction. A poor video, but there are better. One helpful way to appreciate the size of the USA is *_11_*_ US states are bigger than the entire UK!_ The USA is almost 40x the size, with about 5x the population of the UK. Alaska and Texas are humongous. Its more reasonable to compare the UK with California, which is about 1¾ the UK, but about 60% of the UK population, or New York state which is about 60% the size of the UK, with a population about 30% of the UK. The size of the US comes with even larger stores of natural resources like oil, coal, iron, etc. The space allows for large areas for farm land and lumber. Best Wishes, Chaps. ☮ I am amazed how bad the graphics are, and how much talking there is in the _The _*_Infographics_*_ Show._ You two are bright, but even you struggled at times to appreciate what was being *said.* For 5h!t5 and giggles, try _UK vs USA | Country Comparison_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ_WkoJ7r6iXeK8 (only 3m 26s vs 6m 48s) It's silent, using only graphics, and IMO clearer and more memorable. Edit: "UK vs USA | Country Comparison" is not great, just better than "How Big Is USA Actually?" You two could make your own US vs UK comparison video, and do a much better job. Though it's probably not worth your time. BTW - I read in comments under one of the "US military vs the World" videos that many of the US's overseas military bases are leased from the UK.

The 11 US states compared to the UK are: Alaska = 7.05 UKs Texas = 2.86 UKs California = 1.74 UKs Montana = 1.56 UKs New Mexico = 1.29 UKs Arizona = 1.21 UKs Nevada = 1.17 UKs Colorado = 1.11 UKs Oregon = 1.04 UKs Wyoming = 1.03 UKs Michigan = 1.03 UKs Best Wishes, All. ☮
