Very helpful info, especially for new blanket-makers. I’m making 7 bed-size blankets of various sizes, for grandkids Christmas gifts. Most are grown with one baby blanket for my first great grandchild. I’ve already made her about 12-15 baby blankets and she’s only 5 months old. Lol. I’m getting older and want to leave all my grandkids something that I’ve made that will last for years to come. I love your channel. Great instruction video!!!

@CrochetWithTiffany9 ай бұрын
Hi there! Hmm, that makes sense since you are working with a bulkier yarn. Because you are wanting to make such a large blanket project, let's try a different way of doing this so you can figure out information without having to work so much. Make a swatch. Chain enough for you to reach 10 inches wide. Then work 2 rows and see if the width changed. If the width got bigger, measure by how much, then undo your work and try again with less stitches. Remeasure after 2 rows to see if you are on track for being at 10 inches wide. Repeat until you keep a consistent width of 10 inches. Now make as many rows as you need to reach 10 inches long. Once you have a 10 inch by 10 inch square, write down on a piece of paper how many chains you made in your foundation row. How many stitches you have in each row, and how many rows you made for your whole square. Now that you know how many stitches are in 10 inches, you can figure out how many stitches you will need for 60 inches. Now that you know how many rows are in 10 inches you can figure out how many rows will be in 72 inches. I hope this helps!

Greatly appreciated your guidance, and I Was Trying to crochet ( cotton yarn) my Baby Blanket From, Going Off Course, but I Keep Scratching, My Head Because it did go off, but I noticed when I started adding the I Bubble, stitch. I had decided in advance to avoid that problem, so I decided to only have a bubble stitch pattern ( 2 rows ) at the bottom of my blanket with the middle part with only single crochets, and the top part with two rows of bubble stitches. and yes, the inevitable happen. My blanket is not straight. They’re off course.please help!!
@CrochetWithTiffany12 күн бұрын
Hi @JenniePerkins-p7s! Hmm, This sounds like it could be a tension issue. Do you find you have a tight stitch or you make tight stitches? The bobble stitch needs elbow room and tight stitches around it will force the bobble to push and shove causing rippling or misshaped sides. OR, check your stitch count. Are you keeping the same number of stitches in every row? It can be so easy to just crochet and not count but that often bites us in the butt. Check those two things. If it's not those, and your sides are only slightly off, you might be able to fix the sized by blocking the project after it's completed. I hope one of these helps! You got this!

Help me please! 🥲🤍🇧🇩

Hi there. OK, So much I want to share with you as you are an absolute beginner at crochet wanting to dive into a project fast! First, be patient with yourself. If the blanket it not turning out perfect it is OK!! That comes with time and practice which it sounds like you don't have. So, remember, even if it is not perfect, it came from the heart and people love and appreciate that. Second, the size blanket you are wanting to go for is a Receiving Blanket. It's actually a pretty decent size ESPECIALLY for a 6 - 12 month old. So, lets go with that for your first blanket. Next, the stitch you use. Do NOT over complicate this by finding a pattern and jumping right in. If you are truly an ABSOLUTE BIGGINNER Crocheter and need something fast, let's go with a simple Half Double Crochet stitch in each stitch of the blanket. It's a stunning, basic stitch that many people love to use when making their blankets and I think you will be very happy with how it turns out. I wish you the best of luck. I hope this helps! For a little more help check out my Crochet Basics Playlist that might be able to help answer even more of your questions and get you on your feet with this project. Quick question if you can help answer a question, I'm going to be making a king blanket with bernat[ (6)super chunky] 220 yards. Using the primrose stitch (+3 number in 3's) for the measurement of 76 inches width by 64 inches length. How many skeins would I need? I attempted to math it out, but still struggling unless I see how it's done I feel like I'm in the dark😅😅.going to measure number of chains for the length (with no border). I would really appreciate it. And thank you for posting this video it is very instructional, just more visual by example if that makes sense 😅. I like the blanket stitch, a d it says it's multiple of 3. How do I figure out how many stitches? Would that be 287 single length stitches
@CrochetWithTiffany6 ай бұрын
Great question! That all depends on a lot of variables. How thick the yarn is, the crochet hook you are using, how loose or tight your stitches are and the size of the blanket you are wanting to achieve. What I recommend is that you make a swatch. I know, not what people like to do. But it will answer your question very specifically. Make a small square using the multiple of 3 requirement, the yarn you want to use on your blanket, and the crochet hook you will plan on using. Then write down on a piece of paper how many inches wide and how many inches tall your swatch is. How many chains you had chained in that swatch, how many stitches were in each row, and how many rows you were able to make. If the pattern you are making is easier to count the number of groups across the row than the number of stitches than just count groups. Now you know how many chains it took to get that wide. How many inches wide is the blanket you want to make? Divide the number of inches wide the blanket is by the number of inches wide you swatch is. Take that number and multiply it by the number of chains you made in your swatch. That will tell you how many chains you will need to make for your blanket. If it's hard to follow what I wrote above, check out my Swatch Series here on KZbin, in my Playlists, where I break it down for you. 🤗

I'm wanting to do the basket weave blanket in twin size & the pattern calls for mutiples of 8 plus 7. How do I go about getting the length to the proper base chain count?
@CrochetWithTiffany2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question Tamitha! If the stitch you are worked works in a multiple that doesn’t evenly match up with a blanket dimension I recommend working past the recommended dimension by more multiple. It’s better to be slightly too big than fall short. Unless you plan on adding a blanket border to make up for those missing inches. Great question! Thanks for asking. 😊❤️🧶

I dont know if your still reading comments but HELP how do you do a blanket border when you dont how many rows & cant count rows because yarn too dark & stitch too complicated. Can I measure such as x amount of stitches per inch? I'd really appreciate your help. Luanne
@CrochetWithTiffany3 жыл бұрын
Hi Luanne! Yes! I do still read comments when I can. Always willing to help! Ok, if you can’t count the number of rows or be able to identify the stitch because the pattern is different and the yarn is too dark then the best thing you can do is measure the blanket, create a border (4 individual sides) and then see the border to the blanket. I can write this down on my list as a future tutorial I can do as an example but it will be a while before I can get to it. I hope this helps even just a little bit. Good luck! 😊❤️🧶

What if I am doing a rectangular center out blanket. How do I know how many chains to begin with for a twin size blanket?
@CrochetWithTiffany2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question Shoffies! A blanket worked from the inside out has a different way for us to tackle meeting blanket dimension. How I would tackle a 40 inch wide by 60 inch long blanket worked from the inside middle outward. Really, depending on how I want the pattern of the blanket to show up I will start with an inside that is anywhere from 50 chains to 100 chains of foundation row. (In this case I am making a rectangle so needing to start with a long foundation row.) Then I would keep working my way around and around until I met blanket WIDTH dimension. Then I would stop working around and start working only the top section and bottom section of the blanket in rows to add to the LENGTH dimension only. And now I have met blanket dimension working from the inside out. NOW: How to figure out how many chains you will need... Here's what I would do to figure that out. Make a small example of what you plan on doing for you blanket. Let's say make 10 chains for a foundation row, and then work up 3 rows around that foundation row chain with the exact pattern you plan on using and then stop. Now take a tape measure. Measure a crochet stitch from bottom to top (or where it entered a stitch to where it's top is) This will tell you how wide your blanket will grow with every round. Now measure how long the blanket grew with every round. This measurement should be in sync with the width. FOR EXAMPLE: I'm using a size 5 weight yarn and I make a 10 inch long chain. Then I make 3 rows. Each row measures .5 inch wide on each side so that means every round my project is growing 1 inch wider and my blanket length is also growing 1 inch wider. If I want my blanket to measure 40 inches wide and 60 inches long and I know both dimensions grow at 1 inch per round I know that I will need to start my foundation row chain at 20 inches long so that when I grow my blanket to 40 inches wide my blanket will also be (40 + 20 = 60) 60 inches long. I hope this information was helpful. Thank you for asking Shoffies.

Oh gosh I’m not really sure how to help you there. Sounds like you are trying to create your own pattern to meet a need. There is so much to take into consideration here. Unless you are ready to start creating your own patterns I would suggest trying to find a pattern that is already created and follow it exactly. With the same crochet hook and yarn. Make a swatch! That way you can match the stitch tension of the pattern designer. I have a whole swatch series you can check out to show you how to use a swatch. I hope this helps. 😊❤️🧶

What does it mean 2× ? Or 8 +1 ? Or when they say make it in multiples of 2 or 2 plus 1 please
@CrochetWithTiffany4 жыл бұрын
Sure! When the pattern calls for a Multiple of 2 + 1 that means you need the number of chains in your foundation row to be a number that minus 1 is divisible by 2. For example, 21... 21 - 1 = 20 20 can be divided by 2 evenly. How about a multiple of 8 + 3. Your foundation row number minus 3 needs to be divisible by 8. Example 43.... 43 - 3 = 40 40 can be divided by 8. This count is very important to the pattern. In order to make the pattern possible or work you need to follow the multiple chain count requirement. Hope this helped! 😊🧡🧶

How many stitches does it take too make a cross in a queen size blanket
@CrochetWithTiffany3 жыл бұрын
Hi Terenia! Whenever I want to make a specific shape inside a blanket I will draw it out on grid paper. That way I can get an idea of when I will be coming upon the change in my stitches. Next I will decide what crochet pattern I want to use to make the blanket. Last I will work up 2 or 3 rows of a blanket and then measure it out to see if I have met blanket width dimension. Repeat this until you have actually met blanket width dimension and then you can go back to the grid paper and work up how many stitches until you get to the cross, how many stitches are in the cross shape and so on. I hope this helps! For information on the dimensions of a queen size blanket you can find all of that in this very video. Thanks for asking. 😊🧡🧶

I have a terrible problem of keeping my sides straight, oh yes, I've used stitch markers and its still crooked as a dog's hind leg. HELP.
@CrochetWithTiffany4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sally! Hmm, I'm glad you are using stitch markers! This could be a couple of things. First, is the number of stitches in each row the same? Give it a count and see if the number of stitches in your last row is the same number as the number of stitches in your first row. If not then counting may be your problem. It could be a tension issue. Perhaps you crochet tighter towards the ends? Does the yarn look thinner in that section than the rest of the blanket? If your blanket heavy? Sometimes the weight of a blanket can pull the sides inward like a concave look. If you have checked out all of these things and non are the problem then you can most likely fix the sides of your blanket by "Blocking" it once it is finished. 😊🧡🧶

My two cents’ worth: I was working on a blanket some time ago which I decided would be one row double crochet, and the next half double crochet. I discovered after my blanket was a few inches tall that my blanket was slanting towards one side. Number of stitches remained the same as the foundation row,, but the blanket continued to slant towards one side. I tried all kinds of things to fix this, opened up the whole blanket more than a few times, but the problem kept getting worse as the blanket became taller. I think what I was doing to worsen the situation that my rows were not getting balanced out - all my double crochet rows went from right to left, and my half double crochet rows went from left to right and this I think made the blanket tilt toward the one side only. I think that if I had made two rows of each kind of stitch, this could’ve been avoided. I haven’t tested this theory out yet, but I think that would’ve worked. Any expert thoughts on this? I’d appreciate your input. Thanks.

But once you work into your chain, it will continue to stretch and grow. So it may be 12 inches for the chain but once you have worked 5-10 rows, it will grow a lot multiple inches so this isnt an accurate way to get the right size width

California king

Great question Yvette! You're right. There is no dimension for a Cal King in this chart. Honestly, just google dimensions of a Cal King blanket and go off of those dimensions. Usually, the Cal King is as narrow as a Queen, just longer. Or right about that. 😊🧶🧡

The width of the blanket is affected by the type of stitches used. Some stitches will lengthen your foundation and some will shorten it. That’s why a test swatch is so important.

Totally get how that would be confusing. I actually just recently updated this video with my Swatch Series. I think you might really enjoy it. The series was created to empower crocheters to know how to make ANY rectangular blanket size before you even begin. Maybe give it a peak: kzbin.info/aero/PL6HRmAfbRXTV5Kt9XjOmWPEmXBaVn5nkV
