I also wish they wouldn't have given the player character voice acting, I like having a large list of options to choose from and I like to imagine what my character would say in that situation and what their voice would sound like. We know D2 has fans but as a "dragon age" game it's horrible, u can't even have different races to imerse yourself, no u can just be hawk, with all the characters super hawksexual. D2 was trying to hard to be an Hack n Slash not only the combat was changed but they totally changed the RPG feel. It's a nice Adventure hack n slash that has some fans but as a rpg is the weakest.

Finally a dragon age video I agree mostly with and not wrapping the series in bubble wrap to protect it from criticism. I would honestly be surprised if Bioware doesn't have a return to Origins-style prologue where you get some time to establish your character before the game starts. Since we're going to be in Tevinter, it makes sense to let the player to explore this new part of Thedas we haven't been to before. Like for example, if you play a Mage in DA4, it could be a parallel to Human Warrior/Rogue in DA:O, ie you've grown up in the upper class with all the privilege it entails, plus your time in the Circle will be obviously different from what Mages in Orlais and Ferelden go through. Instead of throwing us into the action like in Inquisition, let us get a feel for this society and our character's place in it.
@REALVINERGY
@REALVINERGY Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would be perfect. There are also so many options and routes they could consider, Qunari have been at war with Tevinter for ages, so we could be there as a Qun spy/warrior or as Tal-Vasoth, hired by some noble to bother Tevinter as much as possible. Elven slaves are often used as bloodsacrifice, but some are treated exceptionally well by the upper class, so we could kick things off trying to escape or to "betray" our masters. Also, I hope they're smart enough to realise that few people are interested in Dreadwolf who have never touched a Dragon Age game before in their lives, so they can go pretty heavy on the whole lore aspect of the origins, as most people will at least have some clue as to where we are and what is going on

@@REALVINERGY And if you play a Dwarf, you get an insight into how Orzammar's relationship with Tevinter is post-Trespasser (since an empire of mages would need lyrium of course). Hell, if you play an Elf you could meet a character from the City Elf's origins (either Valendrian or their father, depending on which Warden you pick on Tapestry). It would be a huge misstep if Bioware doesn't put in an Origins-style prologue because there's so much lore and exploration to do.

My problem with Inquisition is that scope just got out of control. In Origins, you were not saving the world. You were saving Fereldan. It was very possible that the blight would’ve ended, but Fereldan was destroyed. Nothing about Origins suggested that a Dalish Elf or Dwarf Commoner gave a shit about Antiva’s safety. DA2 invested me further as I really cared about Kirkwall. I was upset when the Qunari attacked it. I felt like it was spiraling out of control and I could only tend to symptoms. DAI though? I just felt too detached. So much of it was in Orlais and I didn’t care, at all, about Orlais. The game would have quests where you collect blankets, but war table missions about entire countries. It just was all over, and I found myself just not caring about war table beyond picking whichever option had the best reward.
@REALVINERGY
@REALVINERGY Жыл бұрын
Good point. It also didn't help that the wartable missions were actually quite "important" in shaping the entirety of Thedas, as using the wrong advisor for a mission could easily wipe out an entire group of your soldiers, or assassinate the wrong target, but as they didn't have cutscenes or dialogue attached to them, everybody just picked the advisor who needed the least amount of time to finish it and called it a day. Also, with all of the talk about Nevara, Antiva etc. it has been dope to hear/read about them from companions and codex entries, but that doesn't make me care about them. In fairness, I'd rather have them not show them, than DO show them but in the half-assed manner they used for Val Royeaux, but I'm not very bothered by whatever happens to them, as I have no clue what is happening over there. I cared about my companions, my countrymen and my city in DAO and DA2, but in Inquisition, I just wanted to make the Inquisition more powerful, and whatever needed to be done to achieve this didn't really change my opinion on the matter whatsoever
@TheSpicyLeg

@@REALVINERGY Prescisely. At least Orlais was shown in the game, though Val Royeaux was an embarrassment. In the lore, only Minrathous has greater glory than Val Royeaux, yet we get a small square and a few back alleys. Both Denerim and Kirkwall had grander scale, and that is a crime. I’m hoping the war table goes away. Show, don’t tell. If you don’t want the MC there for some reason, why not let us play another character a la Leliana in Origins? All those cool inquisition characters like Argent, Isabela, etc. would be fun to play them through a mission and make choices that would be difficult for their personalities.

@@REALVINERGY Speaking of the wartable missions being important, the Dalish elf Inky has a series of wartable missions that are meant to assist their former Lavellan clan. If you make the wrong decision during any of the missions, the entire clan gets destroyed and dissolved, but this doesn't come up in the story at all. Such a weirdly important thing that can happen and the main character just has no reaction to their former home being destroyed and most of their friends and family killed. I think a whole different departement made the war table missions, and another one wrote the story, characters etc. and that's why this mishap happened. (builds / skills etc, could have been better imho) ... I still remember the random badass GG that showed up at the end who jumped from the top of the tower unto the flying dragon ... like he came out of nowhere) DA2, was more like a *full drama* game, same areas but new developments each and every day... like a living city ... different from the 1st game but with better gameplay ... and everything was about the people living there .... then comes DAI ... feels so empty ... big maps, empty big maps... full of repetitive quests ... random-ish encounters ... and VERY SLOW pacing... even sometimes too cheesy ... the chars feel kind of forced.

Okay so I agree with most of your video but there is points I do have to address. Mages not only were op in Origins but they had a lot of redundancy and didn't have a whole lot of nuance. Take for example the 4 variations of cone spells, cone of fire, cone of cold, cone of lightning, petrify, etc. It just boiled down to you using the best crowd control or the hardest hitting spells as opposed to trying to find ways to make magic combo with itself. Take Inquisition and its totally different, you can use combinations like Lightning cage and Fear to decimate a group of enemies. Even most CRPG's have some combos and less redundancy like using Grease+Fireball. And its not so much that the mage was op, its that the mage invalidated mechanics. Why invest in herbalism when your spirit healer is going to be faster and better than any poultice you pull out. Why use traps when you can CC most enemies to death with mage spells. They kind of made rogues pointless beyond disarming traps, picking locks and supporting with the bard class. I get what you mean about choices but, largely speaking the choices in Origins boiled down to, should I be an arse or a self righteous goodie. There wasn't a whole lot of between which is why I preferred Inquisition's dialogue because a lot of it was neutral and left things more up to the internal monologue of the character. It did mean our character lacked personality but it also meant I didn't write myself into a tropey mess. Like if you are going to give your character personality choices there isn't a whole lot of room for individuality because you could write yourself into a bad cliche'. Greedfall was an RPG that showed exactly how choices can be nuanced and impactful without putting your character into a trope as an example and I would rather follow it than Origins as a model for dialogue. I think the problem I had with Inquisition's world maps is that there wasn't a whole lot to do or a lot of interesting people to interact with. The world had more detail than most open world games but it just lacked people and was more about slogging through more enemies to hit. I preferred some of the random encounters origins had like, oh look a camp, oh party is feeling sleepy, now we gotta solo this shade with our mage or party dies. This is something that I missed a lot from inquisition and only really felt like it was replicated in smaller scale, like the haunted house in the Emerald Graves. As for your gameplay options about tactics, I think I agree they shouldn't have half arsed it. But at the same time I don't want to automate too much of the ai or we get a final fantasy 12 situation where the game literally plays itself with the gambit system. Which I liked but don't wish to return.

Dragon Age Origins is just the best experience, from the music to the main story with the human male, fighter, who can use two weapons, just like Duncan. And the shocking fatality of child, father and mother, just to fill that need for revenge, a feeling directly towards known enemy, and that's not even the main story of becoming a Grey Warden. The shocking joining, drinking blood of the Dark Spawn, Morrigan, Flemeth, the Tower of mage, Red Cliff, Denerim, the Dalish wood, the Fade, the pink Gift item with the -/+ feeling of our companions, it's beyond good what Bioware did with Origins. We could end a child free trial of life, let him be possed, kill his mother. We could destroy a delish camp, don't save redcliffe and le they all die. For all the problems with DA2 and controversies surrounding DAI, BIOWARE as a company honestly did the best they could with what they were given. EA forced Bioware to work with the Frostbite engine, an engine meant for shooter style games and not RPG's, they popped out multiple awards. It's clear that whilst currently playing through my second run, there's some ganeplay mechanics that, with a bit of time, it would've been an even better game. The abilities, spells, potions etc was extremely simplified after DAO, something I'm hoping would change in dreadwolf. Let's also not forget that EA gave bioware less than two years to develop DA2. Hence, despite its flaws, the much more grounded story paid off. Hoping that BIOWARE is much more lenient, and that BIOWARE will go back to there roots, whilst still keeping what made inquisition excellent

With that being said though, I'd feel like I'd just spread more negativity and 99% of people are already aware how disgusting EA is. So you are very correct, it's also not like the 3 games are bad by any means, it's a small miracle they all still turned out so well with the limited recourses Bioware were provided

They didn't force Bioware to use Frostbite, they made them an offer that if Bioware used Frostbite then EA would give them full support during development. 100% One of my favorite's is when Jory and Devon are constantly arguing in the Korcari Wilds, with Alistair trying to calm them down, and the female HoF says " I swear I'm the bravest one here and I'm a woman. " Which shuts both of them up. I however have absolutely zero hope of them implementing stuff like this in a proper manner in this day and age. Inquisition was already quite politically correct, so even though most people understand that the time period is set in a fictional world of knights, castles and kings, the developers seem to have forgotten that throughout the years. Should you ridicule people irl for their race or gender? No, but this is a video game, if I wanna play as a dwarf who hates all humans or as a (dis)obedient elf, just let me already for fucks sake lmao As for the classes, it's gonna be near impossible with a voiced main character, but I agree that that would be preferable for the role-playing. I recently played Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2 and those games are amazing for that, as dialogue changes depended on attributes, class setup but even the place ( you have chosen of course ) where you were born or even with job you did before the game starts off. DA is kinda in between genres though right now unfortunately, it's not a proper old school RPG anymore but also not a proper linear story focused on neat gameplay, like God Of war. Origins was inspired by Baldur's Gate and the first Game of Thrones books, which was quite obvious. Inquisition felt like they tried to borrow as many game mechanics from other games as possible, and ended up doing everything half assed

But when Inquisition released, certain cutscenes didn't even display properly, as the Qunari were simply too big to fit in the frame, so I think armors are the least of our concerns 😂 As for Frosty: I'm just happy the community has gotten pretty nifty with using the Frostbite Engine for mods. I've never liked it much. The Infinity Engine worked fine, but from what I've gathered it was too time consuming and expensive for EA

Thanks brother 💯 Yeah, for sure. Some people got a bit defensive thinking I'm roasting the series, or are claiming that there is no need of fixing as the games are already perfect. Like, didn't they hear me mention I love this series on multiple occasions haha They already have 3 amazing games, if they'd just combine all of the fun stuff and reduce the tedious stuff, it could still turn out to be an amazing sequel :]

To me nothing got close after Origins it was too perfect, and series wasn't able to recover after DA2. Not having any hopes, but wish all fans who stick to the series till this day to have a game that they trully desereve. I say everything gone down hill since Bioware gave a main character abilty to speak, cause you not just loose the ability to roleplay as someone diffrent and not be a Fifty Shades of Shepard like in Mass Effect, but it also imits variety of interactions and responces, because voice lines for MC takes time, money, and space on the disc and have him/her to have twise as more comments and have npc to react at each one of them is just impossible, so the corners had to be cut, and what we really lost is ability to have trully a main character of our own, with it's own personality and voice. At the end every Grey Warden will be different because you have enough space to insert traits that what you particularlly him/her to have, and with no voice your imagination will get the rest job done, while every Inquisitor will remain the same, because it's all the same voice that changes slightly.

Couldn't agree more. It's why I've, throughout the years, started preferring more old school RPGs over the newer ones. Fallout 4, Skyrim, Witcher etc. are all great in their own way, but I'm playing as a pre-determined character, and no matter what I do the game is essentially the same experience for everyone. In games like Wasteland, Pathfinder, PoE etc. I'm a different person on every playthrough, and that made me really appreciate those games even more; The different ways people react to you, how dialogue changes between party members, how entire new quests would appear, stuff like that. It's funny how we can get way more attached to a character that has never spoken a word throughout the entire game, than a character who has +10k lines of dialogue

@@REALVINERGY I have finished Cyberpunk 2077 recently, and when I started and were creating my character I was presented with a "similar" to DAO Origins sytsem where you can choose your character background. I wanted to roleplay as a Cowardly Corporate who's grows into a badass merc by the end, but then you hear your character in game voice lines and he's already sounds like a rough thug, and I've stopped immediately. You're right, there's many games with great combat mechanics, traversal, and crafting, but imo, the most importaint, "the social" aspect is lacking, and it's partially because resources that could have been spend on more diologue options, or on developing different variations of consequences, are instead it's everywhere else but there.

Everybody right now is praising it like crazy, as they're comparing it to the state it was in when it just released, but I tend to hold grudges and still haven't forgiven them for the terrible release. While I enjoyed inquisition, I had a lot of issues with the game some you mentioned in video some you didn't my biggest issue is that the war table missions were seemingly deciding the whole fate of Thedas off screen almost. They didn't really try to connect inquisition with origins at all and it also felt like the events of Awakening were "de-canonized" in inquisition. My main gripe with that is with how I played my warden in origins there was no way in hell Warden Commander Cousland would sit idle as Clarel raised an army of warden abominations. Another issue I had was the decision to go for a more "open world" style with the locations, yet others were kind of just one room in size.

Somewhere in this comment section ( never had this many before and am trying to respond to everyone haha ) I discussed the same with someone else. But to summarize: 1) The wartable; couldn't find a proper way to expand on it without just sounding naggy 2) As for the decisions; yes very true, we could esentially assassinate wrong targets, support the completely wrong country or even let our own clan ( dalish elf ) die and we never found out as the war table was so irrelevant in its use. And yeah, the clan dying thing got adressed in the DLC, so they at least learned from their mistake, but base game Inquisition's war table was atrocious, not to mention it even made its way back into the game AGAIN with all of the DLC

My biggest gripes about Inquisition are the half-assed way they "brought back" the Origin system even though they really didn't, the combat ,especially for the mage class, feeling nerfed say what you will about DA2 but I liked making it rain fire and slamming my enemies into the ground while then blasting them with lightning before they could blink and finally how the story and options always pushed you into the "good" direction with little opportunities to be an ass or at least having no real consequences for it or any morally ambiguous choices hell I can't even be a blood mage in Inquisition

With how bad Bioware been of late. I am not expecting Dreadwolf to be good. I do agree with a lot of what you said. Honestly I kinda want them to go back to origins style of story/game play. With few changes from Inquisition. Like mages and archers able to attack and move. Get rid or at less give me an ability to turn off click to auto attack. Maybe a more open world then Origin but not as massive and fetch heavy from Inquisition. Keep the Inquisition grand scale story battles. Like more of the ending fights from origin style. Then bring back DA2 companions. Like honestly the only good part of DA2 was the companion system. Sadly this feels like wishful thinking and they will just make a worse version of Inquisition. Not understanding why people loved Origins and was only ok with Inquisition. With them adding a ton more woke garbage. Like you could already see the woke crap in Inquisition.

Like the armor mechanic for warriors was good but with out a really support them. It just felt like I had to pick my battles carefully and baby sit my AI and make sure they used their abilities correctly. I guess if they had a proper tactical system like in the first two games. With some way to heal beside health or using the mage companion who is the only mage in the game with a support skill tree. I might have finished the game. Guess this big rant was just me saying. There was some combat stuff I liked in Inquisition. Sadly there was more I hated and with a game so focus around combat. I just could not complete the game. Plus screw those time gate mission boards. @@REALVINERGY I very much respect your decision to wait for full release of BG3. I feel like I might have ruined the game for myself with the amount of hours I already put into the EA. I remember till this day how I was awestruck in Dragon Age Origins, when I arrived at Lothering second time, this time as an elf and that kid on a bridge told me he would not talk to me, because I was an Elf and after I helped him he told that I am not too bad. I haven't expirienced such interaction in a game before. There might not be that touching moment in BG3 so far in EA, but characters do react to who you are and even you can react based on who you are. It is too soon to know how far will these interactions go, because most of characters you only ever meet once in EA (some tell you to meet them in the city of Baldur's Gate though). But I already saw so much I fear I won't care when full game releases. In terms of BG 1 and 2 without spoilers, game is set 120 years after those 2 games so it is not a direct sequel. Honestly, so far I feel like learning just some basic lore about the setting would probably be more beneficial then playing first 2 games. Just so when someone mentiones Netheril Empire you are not that guy in new Star Wars trilogy who ask: Who is Darth Vader? :D They will of course explain what it was, but it doesn't have that effect that way. Hopefully both games will be awesome.

@@Wolfarior If what Larian has teased us with and shown us so far turns out to be true, I think ( and hope ) that all of the content after the EA will contain so much stuff to do, that you won't have to worry about having ruined it for yourself, so to speak. With that being said though, I also respected and loved CD Projekt a lot and well, look at how that turned out with Cyberpunk ( still also waiting to play that one until they release the final patch lmao ) And absolutely, Origins is truly a one of a kind game. They just didn't hold back with the dialogue, whatsoever. Like, with the Human/Dwarf noble stories, you can already role-play as 3 completely different characters, either completely entitled, very caring for others, or as someone who doesn't give a shit whatever happens. Same goes for the elves, how you can give almost every human shit and esentially tell them " I hate humans, go away. " Even in the comment section of this video, which I would consider my first "viral" video, people argue back and forth, tell me why I'm right and wrong, but everybody agrees on one thing: Origins was amazing. As for the BG1/2 insight, thanks! I honestly doubt I'll try them. Only recently found out there were Enhanced Editions released a couple of years ago, but the reviews for that one seemed kinda average. I might just hop into BG3 completely blind. I don't have a server set up yet specifically for these KZbin vids, but by all means add me, it's much easier to message back and forth a bit via there username: Skits#2343 And if you don't wanna bother; - 90% of my companions look like that because of the " Sacred Ashes Team And More - SATAM " mod - all of the NPCs have been redone by Dragon Age Redesigned ( if you're gonna use this, be sure to remove, or simply do not install, the companion folders, as they interfere with the mod I mentioned above this one ) - all armor is made by RLs' Witcher/Kirkwall Emporium, but - I would advice to also install The Winter Forge if you're gonna use these armors, as they're insanely overpowered, and it even makes nightmare difficulty a joke. With The Winter Forge, you can make the armors much less effective - Things like Dracomies Textures and LOTC s Default Eye Texture are often required if you install a bunch of character creation mods - ( hairstyle, more white teeth, better presets are all optional but make your life a lot easier ) And once again, I would really avoid mods that try to "remake" the entire game, e.g. changing all of the textures and meshes from objects and weapons etc. as the engine really isn't made for that.

Hey, it's me, one of the lunatics that liked that Hawke is an actual character and we're in one city! I hope we get a character with some personality again for Dreadwolf. Origin had good balance. Meanwhile, DA:I failed to make me feel much of anything. It's so... bland. It's so epic and grandly scaled up that it's /bland/. The companions were also hard to bond with. It's just you not trying to piss them off overly, always. The one time I made the mistake of roleplaying, I realized why so many hated Sera with a passion. Start off with slightly low approval? Least reasonable bitch you were ever stuck with. Nothing wrong with Blackwall, but he's just a dude. Who wrote these? For what?!

I would have probably liked DA Inquisition if it wasn't so goddamn big. Being a completionist, that game is just too much for me, I didn't feel like finishing it. But I don't really have a problem with a game being too big, after all I completed Witcher 3, RDR2, Divinity OS 2, the whole Mass Effect Trilogy, Borderlands 2 etc. because those are big games done well. I have a problem with a game having too much repetitive and boring content, paired with an uninteresting world to explore, a.k.a the Ubisoft design.

Yeah, the games you mentioned are indeed great, as (almost) everything that you can do is worth your time. Not every game needs to have 400 different activities, but it's also a shame when a beautiful game is created, only for the developers to then make no use of it ( e.g. Mafia remake, The Order 1886 etc. ) Inquisition made very pretty locations but none of them were really worth visiting.

Such lazy design only made to lengthen the game, same with RDR2 and that quest, I could never bother either. Aside from that, I think RDR2 has an awesome open world with so many crazy, creepy and unexplainable details that you can find there and Arthur jots most of it down with dialogue in his diary. I've spent way too much time just exploring the world there, but I don't feel like it offers much in terms of replayability like Dragon Age does (except for Inquisition though, I never manage to replay it). Just in general, I wish they'd make it so that you actually want to explore the world in Dreadwolf (if they go open world), and not just standard MMO fetch quests like it was in Inquisition. Oh, and I really hope they make it super dark, like disturbingly dark. Dragon Age was originally dark fantasy, but feels like they've moved away from that a bit

@@TyrbeTrost The first time I tried Days Gone, I didn't enjoy it all too much, might revisit it in 2023 as, well, like you said, we're never gonna get the sequel anyways And true, it's weird how Rockstar can manage to both do incredible things, but somehow still fall back to their old ways with "fetch" quests and tailing missions from time to time. And yes, definitely! Whenever I read the DA books, it feels like Origins on paper, the general tone is very "depressing" and emotional but there are plenty of lighthearted jokes and comments from time to time to lighten the mood. I would also prefer that much more over the funky attempt at humor in Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition, where nothing ever felt serious except for a handfull of moments. RDR2 did that perfectly imo, it's overal a very depressing game with lot's of moments that you just wish would've gone differently, but the cast carries the game forward with funny remarks and nostalgic stories

We become king/queen as a human noble but afterwards disappear, we can destroy or help the circle as a mage but have no further influence over the Mage Rebellion etc. But circling back to what I said at the start, unless my memory serves me wrong, I just didn't like how little I felt a connection to the clan and how few dalish characters would come back later in the story. I really want them to return to the old school dialogue system. You can keep the emotion mechanic, develop it further to change the way interactions are handled in dialogue, but just give us back the good, old multiple options. Even if they eventually lead to the same conclusion, just the reactions, the extra tidbits and jokes gave such life to those old games (DAO, Baldur's Gate, etc.). And honestly, the only companions that I really liked were from DAO, as well. Like, Inquisition had some fun, interesting characters, but I just couldn't get as personal or invested in them as Origins, and while I also like the concept of 2's relationship mechanic, I disliked most companions

I actually had a whole segment about that but I decided to cut it out near the end. I compared two runs, both rogues, but one of them was in Origins and the other in Inquisition. She would lie, persuade and steal but halfway throughout the game started feeling guilty about that behavior as she now for the first time in her life had actual purpose and people relying on her. i hope that for dreadwolf they go back to their roots with origins and 2. i couldn't force myself through inquisition, the protagonist you play is so boring no matter how exciting or funny or cruel you'd want them to be, the companions don't seem to have a closeness like in origins and definitely not in da 2, the world was just so much and while those areas were pretty they just were worth running around for 4 hours for fetch quests, and it felt a lot more neutered in its content compared to the first 2 games. what i really liked about da 2 is that the side quests didn't seem micellaneous unlike the other two games so i hope something like that comes back. it just felt that with origins and 2 everything or mostly everything in world was purposeful to the protagonist and the story. another thing was that the companions seemed to be so disconnected in da:I with the outside world if that makes sense? like our only mage rights mage was solas who never really had a stake in war unlike anders, bethany, morrigan, or merrill and our elves hated other elves. like the inequality of those two groups were central in da 2 and explored in origins by the companions so in inquisition when you have the power to actually help or hurt those two groups it feels very hollow in incomparison

Your comment just made me realize how many characters in Inquisition walk around with a bit of a superiority complex. Solas knows that you and the Inquisition are barely relevant compared to the power and influence of the old gods, Sera doesn't take a single moment to listen to anyone who has a different opinion, Blackwall spends 75% of the game pretending to be someone else but still gets made whenever you do something he doesn't like etc. etc. and that ties in very well with the last part you mentioned in your comment: no one has a stake in anything because they don't care about anything. Their own priorities exceed the Inquisition and your character, and while people with own priorities are completely fine, it does have to match the story. Every character in DA2 and Origins had reason to follow you, even more "selfish" characters like Oghren and Morrigan, but in Inquisition, people just stick around but when you ask them why, even they themselves go " I dunno why I'm here actually, to defeat the bad guy, I guess? I'm da:o its explained that tevinter magisters entered the golden Palace and corrupted it, which created the dark spawn, which was very heavily inspired and taken from the concept of heaven and being corrupted etc. Jow all of a sudden the seat was already empty, the Palace was already black, and its actually long lost elven gods that are imprisoned there by a guy that has the worst inferiority complex ever.
