The fact he scored this interview before Fantano is a MASSIVE flex

Plus having the producer in the review is a much more gigantic flex.

Not only that, scoring the interview with 4 band members. BCNR like to do interviews in pairs (Tyler and Lewis), so seeing FOUR members plus the producer?? That's a huge flex ngl.

i mean fantano already interviewed two members of bcnr when ftft came out last year. i’ll admit tho, the fact that he managed to get four members in an interview ALONG with the producer of the album is definitely a flex

The cover art on this album really brought me back to a specific time with those plastic bags. I think my library used them for either books or video games. And I specifically remember opening those bags when I was younger, they have to small little clips on the top. And they also had a crazy super strong plastic smell. Something I completely forgot about!
@ShatteredTrousers2 жыл бұрын
The cover art reminds me of how the local goodwill shops bundle up small toys into batches and sell them in plastic bags. I see them hanging from hooks on a pegboard wall whenever I go goodwill hunting.

1:04:28 is EASILY the coolest demo, the stark contrast between the angry, rough and blaring instrumental paired with Isaac’s vocals that seem uninterested, quiet and even ironic like skye says. SO cool to hear. Personally I’ve never heard anything like it

This is a tremendous document, one that I am confident will be referred back to in 25 years for the most honest answers to listeners questions - spontaneous and without years of rumination to colour the memory. I'm pausing to write this at 1:13:08 because the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up and it's just an extraordinary moment of revelation/synergy/coincidence (no, there are no coincidences!) I wish I could carefully fold this interview up and keep it safe inside my deluxe copy of 'Ants From Up There.'

When I first heard the album version of Snow Globes I was on a busy metro platform in Barcelona and I just burst into uncontrollable tears (when the radical drums kicked in). I'm not going to ever forget that. The only thing that I can compare it to is hearing Spirit of Eden for the first time on an Andalucian road trip in 1993/4. The review and this video confirm that I'm not an outlier in having such a visceral reaction to this absolutely monstrous piece of work. Thanks for shining a light on the process, Prof and bcnr. THE SOUND OF THE ROOM IS EVERYTHING HERE.

“But for less than a moment, they’d share the same Skye” Thank you for your obsession with this masterpiece, which is all I’ve listened to for the past two weeks. Really looking forward to part 2. And thanks to this video I now realise that Sergio live sound engineered the work band we put together for a private event at the Lexington in 2019 - which is surely as close to touching greatness as I’ll ever come! “But for less than a moment…”

Seeing their thought process before, during, and after the recording of this album, I have no doubt that they will figure out how to be a band with their new lineup. They clearly were very intentional with almost every aspect of recording, and this wasn’t a happy accident or anything like that. I’m sure they will be able to do something very interesting going forward. Thanks so much for this fantastic interview.

Restraint to add some space and remove the clutter of too many instruments is a skill Radiohead had to figure out. I know they tried to figure that out around the OK Computer or Kid A era. Ed O’Brien said it was a difficult thing to get used to because certain members wouldn’t play some songs at all, but it added a necessary dynamic to the music, so I think it’s not a bad idea for BC,NR to implement that idea in their music. It could add to the next step in the evolution of their sound.
@dewgongdakota2 жыл бұрын
I think the lack of restraint is what made this record feel so amazing. While I agree that having that restraint can be important on more personal songs (especially like Marks Theme on this record), I do however believe that this album was improved via its grandiosity, and honestly I think the cluster works extraordinarily well. Obviously personal preference but yeah I do think it'd definitely lead them in an interesting and new direction (whether it be good or bad is something we can [hopefully] look forward to).
