Bob's Burgers is wild because the Belcher family doesn't ignore each other, so there's a more real feeling to their interactions. The characters aren't just reading off of a script, but they respond to the random shit that the others are saying, so it ends up feeling like a realistic lower class family. Their struggles are pretty realistic. And even when Bob says things like "i would fire you if i could" to all the kids, they know that at the end of the day, he loves them and puts them first. I absolutely love the bond between the siblings though. Because while they do fight and not always get along, the three of them will throw hands to defend each other. Like I love when Gene and Louise say "messing with Tina is a privilege not a right" and "we're Belchers, from the womb to the tomb" because they have such a strong family bond (even with Bob not being close to his own father). There's this respect among the siblings that I just love.

Something I noticed watching the Bob’s Burgers movie in theaters for the first time was that both times the kids leave for school Linda would see them off and say she loves them. It’s such a small thing that most probably didn’t even notice, but it really stuck with me. For me it’s the fact that she does it more than once and it’s not a throwaway line so she seems to do this every day with them, we just don’t see it which makes the whole thing even cuter. It’s not the only thing like it in the show either: Bob taking Tina to get her legs waxed, doing it with her when she was scared and then walking back to removal place without hesitation when Gene wanted his done too, Bob and Linda realizing they sleep better hearing each others loud snores, Linda cheering him up immediately whenever he starts doubting himself, or the entire episode where the kids lose the ring that had me crying by the end (Bob and Linda are genuinely couple goals, I love their relationship so much and those compilations on YT of their scenes together give me life omg). I think about these moments a lot, not only because some of them are funny but because of how sweet they are. Idk it’s just nice to put on a show with such a simple premise that I know is gonna make me feel content and smile at least a few times no matter what episode I’m watching

I saw a clip of Family Guy where Peter said he'll k himself if Louis leaves him. Im glad Bobs Burgers actually has a happy family. Cleveland Show did too, and look at those two, getting constantly mocked. I think The writers are flinging shit because they cant actually write a good Louis and Peter relationship anymore without it being cynical.
@juliahengstermann193 Жыл бұрын
@@GrayD_Fox this is so true. The writing is so much better than in Family Guy. They can't write good female characters and Bob's burgers has many good female characters. Not only the three main characters but side characters like Tammy and Jocelyn or Miss Labonz (love her).
@GalaxiaStars Жыл бұрын
@@juliahengstermann193 Yeah that's something I like about Bob;s Burgers too. How it handles its female characters. It makes them as deep and interestingly flawed as the male characters are. Instead of automatically making them more one dimensional compared to the males like most other adult sitcom like shows do. It might seem like a small thing but it really does strengthen the show a lot and it's such a refreshing change from how most other shows like this would always sideline their female characters and make them into cookie cutter Marge SImpson-esque cliches. I hope it inspires other new aspiring sitcom shows that will follow to do similar.

I love that while Bob's avoids the cynicism and meanness of a lot of modern cartoons, it also avoids the paternalism of older shows. Bob and Linda love their kids and try their best, but they're not perfect and they screw up too. The show just recognises this as part of life and something to learn from, rather than either making it a punchline or being cloying about it.
@Hagashager Жыл бұрын
That's a really important quality. Part of why Simpsons' adult humor worked was because family television during the late '70s and '80s was exclusively moralistic in nature. They were politically correct Ozzie and Harriot, but worse because at least shows like I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver could still be funny sometimes. Modern animators seem to realize that the winning formula is to take the fundamental message of the earlier, moralistic shows, but wrap them in satire comedy that is true to life and relates to the struggles of a normal person, which in many cases is edgy and cynical, but that shouldn't be the core.

I also notice that Bob and Linda doesn't mind being home in each other's company. Usually TV dads escapes to the bar to drink beer with their friends and to complain about their family. Tv moms usually drinks wine and complains about their family while regretting their life. Bob and Linda love eachother and being together is viewed as a good thing. They work together, watch TV together, and are around eachother pretty much all the time. Yet neither one of them feels a need to escape. Its small but its a sweet detail I've noticed. Also the fact that the belcher kids are a unit is nice to see. I love when siblings are close to eachother and have their own relationship dynamics outside of the parents. Its a great comfort show that I absolutely adore ❤

A LOT of Real life men avoid their families. And A LOT of Real life men are as very egoistic and irresponsible as Homer Simpson. Just listen to people when they talk about their dads. Or read comments under Videos about not so good dads. The SImpsons was such a hit because milliins of people grew up in such a family with such a dad. I am from a very loving family of mentally healthy people, shows like The Simpsons, Two and a half Men, Family Guy and other make me very uncomfortable, I just find it scary how these people treat each other. Another great part of Bob's Burgers is the foil characters that later extend to foil families. Tammy is introduced as a foil to Tina, but then you see her family in her bat mitzvah episode and they don't even notice she's missing from her own party. Jimmy Pesto has always been a foil to Bob even down to the number of children he has, and he never seems to have the work/family balance Bob has. The Belchers are kind of the Addams Family. Bob and Linda love each other like Gomez and Morticia. They're very involved with their kids and are supportive of them even when they think they're doing strange things (with the Addams strange things would be if Pugsley or Wednesday got interested in something like baseball). And while initially befuddled in new situations, Bob is incredibly accepting of everyone and is low-key happy to see people again whether it's a transsexual prostitute, a bank robber who held him hostage, or a motorcycle gang, and you see not just his wife and kids exhibiting this same characteristic, but his father as well who is supportive of the gay community around his burger restaurant. The Addams family would accept you to the point that you were family no matter if you were strange like them or strange to them as long as you weren't actively trying to hurt the family. And even when you were, if you being original about it, they still admired the effort you put into it.

I am so glad someone sat me down to watch the show cause it's become one of my favorites to come back to. The Belchers remind me so much of my family, the relationship between the siblings mirroring my own. I genuinely love this show, so much

I’m reminded of how in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of the writers said they ended Buffy’s only healthy romance with Riley Finn because it’s difficult to write drama in a healthy relationship.

Also the "rambling everyone talking over each other" thing has made its way into so many other shows, namely Smiling Friends

My favorite thing about Bob's Burgers is that the family actually cares about each other, parents are always supportive of the kids, the dad isn't a complete idiot. Put Bob's Burgers up against Family Guy and its amazing they're on the same network on the same night

It'd be great to see you expand this and talk more about the Loren Bouchard projects (Dr. Katz, Home Movies, etc) which are all centered on a wholesome family dynamic.

I think tv shows in general are sort of leaning towards a more wholesome positive tone. With shows like this, Ted Lasso getting tons of awards, Bluey resonating with people of all ages. Hell one of the biggest adult shows that released last year was literally called, Smiling Friends.

I think another interesting point about Bob's Burgers is that Bob Belcher actually wants to do something with his life--run a burger restaurant--even though his goal will never be easy to achieve, and you can see how his devotion to a goal has a positive impact on others around him (even though they get snarky with him about it). That's definitely different than other father characters in other animated series who have no goals in life at all.

My favorite scene was where Bob says he's killing Teddy, metaphorically, and Linda half asleep is basically ready to go and thinks of a plan right off the bat. They've become my favorite animated couple because they obviously love one another and aren't just staying together for the sake of their kids.

I love bobs burgers the same reason i love american dad, because the show always makes you feel like the family no matter what loves each other

We definitely get it… “Boi”… sign me up for anything Jon H Benjamin animated; Dr. Katz, Home Movies, Archer and for everyday watching, Bob’s.

I absolutely love the subtle moments in bobs burgers like when Bob brings food and drinks for Teddy and Louise. He finds them dead tired and asleep, and then just silently and casually turns around and walks away 😂😂😂

What makes Bob’s Burgers unique is that it’s actually based in REALITY. What I mean by that is, even though some of the things that happen in these episodes are highly IMPROBABLE, they are all very POSSIBLE.

Subbed for this video, and watching the content, good stuff. Like your views on things. Bob's Burgers is a comfort show for me. The puns, the references and the family keep me coming back. It's a really great show with an excellent voice cast that you can tell is just having too much fun playing these characters.

Bob's Burgers is definitely one of my favorite shows so wholesome and enjoyable to watch and can be pretty funny the earlier season we're hilarious. Mr. Fischoeder is probably my favorite character so rich he doesn't know what to do with his time. In conclusion I love the show and wish I could find a girl like Linda cause she's amazing.

I think you’re right about people not getting what “dysfunctional” means anymore; I certainly don’t jump to the correct definition at first and did, at first glance, label the Belchers as dysfunctional just because they’re weird as hell people. Truly functional TV families are so rare on air nowadays that I think when we try to think of functional families we think of super traditional Leave It to Beaver types and think of anything deviant to that as dysfunctional. But functional families nowadays look a hell of a lot like the Belchers.

That was like the first thing I noticed when I started watching Bob's Burgers. It's a warm ass show. Everyone loves each other and it's actually got a good message for you without being overly corny. Reminds me of Mob Psycho 100, where after you watch it, you're like, "Damn, I should try harder, do more, be better."
