I discovered Brat Mobile last year at Punk Rock Bowling. I'm the foremost punk rock photojournalist in the PNW and was covering the fest for eastportlandblog. I always see bands that I'm unfamiliar with to discover new acts and I was blown away by Brat Mobile. Years ago I used to publish a zine focusing on indie acts called YEAH and would get a lot of promo material from Calvin, so I'm very familiar with him. He's been around a long time. I ran that zine over 35 years ago.

@@soundofhistory_ I've been attending shows since the 70s got into punk early 80s. I saw Dee Dee Ramone jump off stage and start beating the crap out of someone who wouldn't stop spitting on him. I met Joey Ramone in the gift shop of a Seattle hotel. I chased the Kinks down at their hotel and met them in 81. I'm 66 and still braving mosh pits to get good pictures.

Great video, especially since you're new to the movement. I've seen Bratmobile, Huggy Bear, Free Kitten, and of course Bikini Kill. All great, fun, intense bands. Growing up outside Washington, DC, I got to see a lot of classic bands, including Fugazi, Shudder to Think, Tuscadero, Velocity Girl and Bad Brains. A lot of folks don't realize how truly Progressive DC is. Just remember, most of the negative stuff connected to DC is brought in by politicians from OTHER cities and states. DC residents, and surrounding VA and MD people, are largely very cool, well educated individuals. Don't let The Swamp mislead you.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I grew up in Olympia in the 90s. I can't count the times I've seen Batmobile, and count them as friends. I'm very interested to hear you're take.

Living on the west coast was lucky to see this musical movement. Early enough to see a number of bands in backyards and coffee shops. Bratmobile was one of my favorites because they had a lot of fun in their sound and live performances. Many of these bands, though I enjoyed, there was a bit too much seriousness and some of the bands approaches felt was getting hit over the head with the message. When I worked in radio it felt kind of crazy to me to see Molly managing The Donna's and Erin was the rep I had at Look Out Records for a time. The smaller bands I never expect to run into their post band lives; I guess. Its the folks that at least had some of that MTV rub I will run into at music stores, recording studios, the clubs they once played, etc..

Molly Neuman. The Queers have a song about/called her. You should do a video about the Queers!

i would tell a fledgling guitarist to learn some Ramones because its some of the easiest stuff to play, just to get familiar with strong structure. the songs are really short and consist of sometimes very few, simple power chord progressions, and although the BPM's are usually pretty fast if you start slow and work up to the original BPM, you should get the hang of it.
