I remember Ronaldo's boots R9 model were very famous and appreciated as well for football players, fans and sponsors. I got a pair of on these just because I understood the philosophy of Nikè's Greek God: Brazil is the way to the victory. As a Spaniard, I always used to support Brazil as the second national team when my country looses. I'm 35 years old (same age of Sergio Ramos) and I had the opportunity to watch the end of golden era with Romario, Bebeto, Jorginho, Taffarel, Rai, Aldair, Mauro Silva, Cafú and Branco (between others). I think the sucess of Nike in Brazil goes beyond of football passion for Brazilians; Niké as an ancient Greek God was the best choice to represents Brazil success in football history: creativity and hunger of victory. In addition, thanks for showing Martha Oliveira da Silva in this video :)

Ronaldo never wore the t90’s. When he was a scrawny kid in brazil and when he first came to europe he played in tiempos. Even the 1996 compostela goal when he was in barca was in the Tiempo. Late 97 Nike came out with the first lightweight boots the match mercurials and history was made since. R9 lit up the pitch with the mercurial vapors.

Don't underestimate the signing of Ronaldo in the 90ies and putting him at the same level of Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Michael Johnson at the time. He was one the most recognizable global athletes at the time. Incredible marketable. If he had lived in the time of social media, it would have blown up with his impact on the game. What Messi did in his solo efforts, started with Ronaldo (and also a bit with Maradona). R9. After that came R10, CR7, etc. almost copy pasting what they did for Ronaldo.

I like the channel, but this time some information was misleading and the rest was pretty much surface information. Having elections in the same year as World Cup is mere coincidence and in no such way "Nike made Brazil internationally famous". Marketing sure helps, but sympathy comes from decades of success and disruption - the Seleção showed the world how a developing country was able to beat richer rivals again and again (and again, and again, and again). Regarding CBF thieves, there is material for a whole season.

An interesting case about this relation is what happened in the last olympics. Nike sponsor the Brazilian olympic football Jersey, but the olympic Comitte is sponsored by Peak, and therefore in the medal celebrations the athletes need to wear this Brand. But all of the team instead used Nike, which put at risk a sponsor in categories that has significantly less exposure in Brazilian sports
@josejardim9652

Are you sure about that? As an example, if you look at the first ever gold medal for Philippines (an historic moment) she is wearing her jacket with the Asics* logo.
@Maur028
@Maur028 2 жыл бұрын
@@josejardim9652 yeah, you can look up the medal celebration. They are wearing peak pants, but the jacket is tied up in their waist (for almost all of the players), and so the upper body is only the Nike Jersey. It fueled an old discussion of the cbf vs the olympic Comitte, and made the headlights here
@Maur028
@Maur028 2 жыл бұрын
@@josejardim9652 ok, i've read real quick about what you said about philippines. He actually did have a seizure the night before the match. It scared the whole team to a point where some teammates were crying and no one was able to sleep. Doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him so he begged the staff to play the final. As a brazilian, I recognize that France was the better side during that World Cup and would probably win it anyway, but a 3x0 win over Brazil can only be truly understood when you take into account what happened the night before.

I'm Brazilian and I confirm EVERYTHING! all of us here in Brazil think that that match against France was bought so that our team would be champions in the next cup, but what makes Brazilians angry is not the question of the match against France being sold, which makes us angry and the fact that we would win the 2 world cups if the Zidane x Ronaldo World Cup wasn't sold. 🇧🇷 Ah a video suggestion: talk about the Brazilian clubs that started to be bought by European companies, Red Bull bought Bragantino, John Textor bought Botafogo, Ronaldo bought Cruzeiro and rumors that an Italian company is going to buy a club in the interior of São Paulo. ❤️

All of us ? ahahaah Most people don't think much about it. I would even grant the possibility of Nike pressuring Ronaldo to go in since he was their main product, but saying they bought it its just silly. The doctor said he could play, so he did. You can't even say they lost because of it, France wasn't weak either and I doubt they wouldn't be studying the curret World Champions upgraded with the best player in the world even before the torunament started.

I'm from Brazil and I see some weird things about Brazil because of Nike. I watch videos in English and Spanish and it is common people saying that "joga bonito" is a popular expression in Brazil. It is not true. In the 1980s there was talk of "art football", which died in the 1990s with the so-called "results football", more suited to more commercial football. Socrates, the captain in the '82 World Cup, said that Brazilians should enjoy the game, winning or losing. Which is impossible in football today. And that turning point from 1980s to 1990s was when Brazilian clubs were no longer able to compete with the richer Europeans. The 1990s is when the national team players all played in europe - I used to say that it was no longer the Brazilian team, it was the European team of Brazilians. XD And this "beautiful game" thing is all Nike's invention. I also remember seeing an English documentary about Brazilian music that said that the song "mas que nada" was a football anthem in Brazil. Never was. The song was used in the Nike commercial for the '98 World Cup. The commercial thing creates a collective imagination that does not relate to the real world. Crazy stuff.

As a brazilian I remember this game and the controversy at the time. It was never properly explained what happened to Ronaldo for him not to play the game and I remember the team not playing like the usual in the final.
