As a baby, I was fed so many carrots by my grandmother (with whom I was left with while my family moved across the country, after which I was flown out) that I looked literally orange. Poor mother thought I had jaundice at first. I proceeded to hate carrots for the next fifteen years. By the same token, I did not need glasses for those same fifteen years.

Similar to what you said with jaywalking, I remember as a kid in the 90s my school and outside groups running poster campaigns where they'd have us kids compete to draw up the best poster decrying whatever the evil of the day was. I specifically remember entering an anti smoking one, but I'm a terrible artist so I didn't even get displayed with the honorable mentions in the hallway. It's funny how they use kids like that.

Here's one: Milk does NOT give you strong bones. You do not absorb calcium in the way the Dairy Association tells you. That whole thing was just a way to get the population to drink more milk in order to boost farmers sales when the Great Depression and dust bowl hurt crops and farmers were suffering losses. The government created the Dairy Association and the lie that milk gives you strong bones. In fact: osteoporosis is highest in areas where milk consumption is highest. China proved it during a decades long health assessment when the rise of osteoporosis in areas correlated with the adoption of Western diets and milk consumption.

In my country, milk is (or was) seen as a bare essential. So important that its sale price are regulated by the government to ensure it stays accessible for everyone. Basically a lot of campaigns insisted that milk is an absolute must since it is the only reliable source of iron. Which is obviously not true. But people just went with it and made it an absolute requirement for anyone to drink milk while growing up. With that said, i doubt they intended for the regulation to have this kind of effect (they just wanted to make sure everyone had affordable food). But the effect was a thing either way. A relative of mine was forced to drink it while she was young and she hates its taste so much that they refuse to eat ANYTHING dairy anymore. Not even due to any sort of intolerance.

@molybdaen11
@molybdaen11 16 күн бұрын
The problem with climate change campaigns is that they are often hiding the true reason. Higher temperatures are not that bad, a few more mosquitos should are nothing new and technically we are still in a ice age. No, the true problem is the pollution, the waste, the lack of respect for humans and nature. And that the business model of more, more, more is not sustainable. That's the core of the problem, not smelting ice caps.

They thought I was SO cool and asked me how they could become were-cats! I told them if they ate a lot of tuna and carrots (because cats have good night vision of course), they too could become were-cats. And they believed it as much as I did! So much so that my friend Emily BAFFLED her mother by suddenly voraciously eating carrots when she had previously been averse to any vegetable. You are welcome, Emily’s mom 😹🥕

So in my state pedestrians have right of way so they're allowed to cross the street where ever they want (Unless it's a highway, that is strongly discouraged) and I refuse to drive in some places because these people will not look and just step out in front of you and I'd understand if there wasn't traffic lights with crosswalks specifically set up for people to cross the street every half block or underpasses on busier roads and I've watched people 10 or so feet away from said crosswalks just start crossing the road and it drives me nuts. Like because I don't drive in those areas I take the bus or walk and I make sure to use crosswalks or underpasses because I know stepping out in front of cars doing 45+ is a bad idea. (Don't get me started on the drivers in those areas either, they're probobly just as nuts as the pedestrians and bikes)

If I can add one: When cans and paper wrappings and plastic from disposable containers and shit started to pop up in the streets, many people originally pressured the companies to go back to reusable containers like glass bottles as before, even if it cut a little bit of their profits. Companies replied with a massive merketing campaign blaming only the people that litter for, well, the existence of litter, which includes the famous crying indian ad from the US: Now, when you see a piece of litter, you don't even THINK of blaming the company for selling the product in disposable, non-biodegradable, cheap containers and instead blame only the person who left it there!
