On the topic of filming cars: the big contraption (that Marina mentioned) for filming dynamic car chases used to be called a "Russian arm", but about two years ago they renamed it to "U-crane" (partly because it was developed by a Ukranian engineer!)

In the bad old days, when singles came into stations, they were always logged with their length, the intro length, the outro fade (or whether is ends properly) and even if there are long instrumentals. That was written on the disc and on the lists so that when a presenter/producer put their show together, they had the right number and length of songs for the show. Commercials are always an exact length, so they are easier. And then you need to allow for the news (on the hour or half-hour), traffic, etc. Again, all exact lenghts and in at specific times. Then, at broadcast, the show was run against the radio clock (kept accurate by an atomic clock). And you do it by count down. You know you have to be out at a certain time. This became more critical where you were jumping to a different studio, or where news was output centrally, or commercials. All this was on paper charts. With computer systems (which came in years ago now), that made everything simpler. And more modern computer systems output the music, commercials, everything, so you don’t have to line up a single on a player and fire it is at the right moment, allowing for the deck to spin up to speed! Really, presenters and no longer Disc Jockeys as they never touch discs - it is all pre-programmed. It is easier now, and allows the presenters more freedom as they can decide to drop or substitute a disc and the system will recalculate for them. They don’t have a cursing producer sitting with a calculator and stopwatch, desperately adding up!

A point about an ad-free version: your ad for Sky was interrupted by another ad. It's like ad-inception here.

There is a work around, sort of. Install an Ad blocker, then copy and paste the thumbnail description )of what you are watching) into another window and open the tab. No Ads during the pod and only a quick skim of 2 ads at the beginning of the pod, press 'skip'' and enjoy Ad free content.

It's to prevent 'crossing the line'. The one-shot cameras are on the other side of the room, so the presenters changed directions from the two to one. If you look carefully now you'll see the two shot is mirrored, they haven't changed seats, and the image of the TV is pre-flipped so it looks correct mirrored. And now the one shots match the two-shots in terms of which direction they are looking. Sorry, I made it all up. But I'd like to see them do it. In reality, it would be simpler to flip the one-shot images. I just finished a large cup of coffee.
@christophersmith1083 ай бұрын
It’s so their faces wear evenly. Richard has usually (thus far) had the right side of his face to the camera, Marina her left. If they had continued doing so, those sides of their faces would get worn out before the other. By periodically swapping places with respect to the camera they can ensure they don’t end up with weirdly asymmetrical faces.
@redmed103 ай бұрын
How dare they? Where's the only real important question? Why the flip? We want nay demand to know.

Barryman - it was the tofu that did it. He said he was required to be nude many times on the dr who set. If that is true , what the hell is going on on that set. Of course it wont be true.
@michael13 ай бұрын
He was naked on set because he is naked in Doctor Who episodes (off the top of my head there's an episode in the Ecclestone era where they visit a planet with a lot of 'robot' versions of TV show formats, weakest link, big brother etc. Barrowman's character is naked as part of a 'Trinny and Susannah robot piece' where they are giving him a makeover and a device/machine removes his clothes. Of course judicious use of props and camera so you don't see his complete body naked on camera but he's naked on the set.

For the successful films, don't they get a pretty good revenue for years, even decades, after release from Netflix etc? Not much per view, but it adds up Ticket numbers would be interesting, but movie studios just need high profits, so the financial return is definitely the more important rather the number of tickets. But ticket numbers down from the 90's, it's obviously because all movies are online very quickly and forever, to watch multiple times. I bet the 'number of views' isn't down at all. I watch a lot of films but haven't been to a cinema in 10+ years.
