I am/was a type 2. Started intermittent fasting November 2020 (16-18 hours each day) while taking Metformin. I lost 25 lbs in a few months and my A1c dropped from 8.5 to 5.8. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels also dropped. I still fast every day (15 hours). My doctor took me off Metformin 5 months after my initial diagnosis of type 2. I try to stick to just meat and vegetables but I have a couple slices of bread each day. I walk 4 miles a day. I feel a lot better.

5 years ago my A1C was 8.4. My doctor prescribed me of taking Metformin 1000 daily. After doing the intermittent and low-carb diet last year, my A1C is now 5.5. My doctor told me to stop taking Metformin because I can manage my diabetes to a normal level. I don't want to stop taking Metformin even though my doctor won't prescribe me because I learned a lot of good things about Metformin for longevity and other benefits.

Request for it again. Metformin has anticancer and longevity benefits. Alternative is berberine with similar benefits in addition to it being a weak PCSK1 inhibitor. So it will also lower cholesterol

I have Type 2 Diabetes. I do intermittent fasting for 15 hours every day. I have my dinner around 6-30PM and have my breakfast the next day morning around 9-30 AM. I have lunch around 1 to 1-30 PM and dinner around 6-30 PM. I have my important diabetes medicine ( Forxiga and Januvia ) in the morning along with my breakfast. I have lunch around 1-30 PM and dinner by about 6-30 PM. Along with every meal, I also take Metformin tablet. With this routine, I find plenty of stability in my glucose readings . It also allows me to have 3 meals a day ( and I can indulge myself with caution with respect to carbohydrates)and looks like there is no problem with regard to my nutrition. The essence is that the main medicines are taken in the morning followed by three meals and then only the intermittent fasting kicks in I find this to be working well for me and have this as my long term plan to combat diabetes. ( long term meaning say for the next 10 years). I have found many of your videos interesting and useful. The funniest aspect is that when I spoke to my Doctor about intermittent fasting, he simply says " No need to fast You are fine " Obviously, I have to guide myself and still take proper inputs from my doctor. ( there are times, when he guides me correctly too)

I have not eaten rice for about a year. My A1C has improved, and I can now reduce my glipizide by half. I use long acting insulin. I measure my glucose level before bed and use use just enough insulin to get my morning glucose level to around 100. However, I am not losing a huge amount of weight. I’ve lost around 20 pounds. The advice for a type 2 not to fast at all never made any sense to me, I mean if you eat you have to take insulin, so reducing meal times or amounts of meals just naturally led to the idea that I could reduce insulin, the fact that I started having a few lows further encouraged me to reduce my dose. I was at the nurse practitioner a week or two ago and when I told her how much I was taking, I actually exaggerated because I knew she would probably flip out If I told her how little I was taking. I used to take 70 units and now I'm taking less than 10. After watching this video I may cut out the r insulin. I'm so happy to find a doctor who isn't forbidding me to fast. Usually it's 20 to 24 hours.

Type 1 diabetic for 46 years. I was on intermittent fasting and Keto and lost 45 lbs. (6' 180 lbs. now). I am off Keto but still keep IF in my diet. I normally don't eat before the afternoon and have a 2nd meal at dinner time. Usually that is it for a day. I may cheat if something looks good to me or if I'm hungry but the IF lifestyle seems to help me maintain the new weight AND good blood glucose levels. I supplement vitamins now because I needed them during Keto and never stopped. Probably can't hurt other than producing expensive urine.

Then I have a sandwich and soup for supper with yogurt bran buds and pom juice at night. Plus I drink lots of water in the morning at noon and around 7 PM at night. In the winter I have soup broth. The meal replacement drinks have lots of vitamins and minerals so I feel great. I dont get food cravings at 10 am and 230 PM. Started about 3 or 4 months ago and I have lost 20 lbs. The bottom line is there is no such thing as intermittent fasting for the diabetic person. To fast you need to get off your meds and your insulin before you fast. A fast is a period of 25 1/2 hours or more. The first few times I fasted I had my blood work checked both during and at the end of a fast. My electrolytes, glucose, kidney function, lipids, etc. Once it was determined I could fast safely for up to 4 days then it is up to me whether I fast or not and for how long. I usually go by the rule if I am not hungry - keep going unless my blood sugar starts to get too low and I start feeling like I am hypoglycemic (even though I am not). Your body has a set point that must be reset slowly - that is why diets don't work. I have never fasted for greater than about 4 days. Lots of benefits to fasting, but you must be careful about both eating properly before a fast and you must be really careful about what you eat after a fast too. The benefits come from eating properly and NOT jacking your blood sugar sky high after you fast. Intermittent fasting works for "healthy" people, but everyone else you need to actually fast. Yes you can fast week after week for varying amounts of time, but also give yourself a break from fasting too. Your body will adapt to fasting and you won't get the same benefit. You must make sure your diet is high in iodised salt and potassium rich foods both before and after your fast. For every day you fast you need half a day of careful refeeding after so your body properly refuels. You also need to drink a proper amount of water while you fast and after fasting.
