Thank you for this message. Lately I have been grumpy, dissatisfied with everything and everyone, including myself and those around me. This message hit home and gave me a clear perspective. Count every blessing not our problems. I truly love God, I just tend to be critical of those who cheat, trick, do everything wrong, yet get ahead in life. I’m not materialistic and never have been, coming from a larger family of 11. It would be nice to see good people blessed for all to see. I’m weary of this world and all the “things” that hold such high esteem. Anyway, thank you for this message which was timely while I’m waiting to pick my grandson up from school. God is Great!

Good people are blessed for all to see, may be not always in the ways you expect. The LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil, some of us are saved from that evil. Also don’t forget the LORD will not be mocked, and his Word does not come back void. Those will reap what they sew. You may not see what they are dealing with even while they appear to be successful. Another thing to be mindful of is you being righteous will be rewarded with heavenly treasure and the things on earth your enemies have will be burned up for all to see. Everything they are investing in is temporary and everything you are investing in by goodness and honesty is ETERNAL and will 💯 better than anything they have here!!

Matthew 7 “Do not judge, or you will be judged. 2 For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Ephesians 2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. 3All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath. 4But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved! Yeshua Amen!

I want to add some thoughts on point 5 (a critical spirit doesn't do us any good). Ultimately that's true. But it can feel different for a short time. I think one of the reasons we put others down is to make us feel better about ourselves. It may work in the sense that we FEEL better about ourselves for a while when we look down on others. The problem is that it never MAKES us better. In reality it makes us worse. I believe it's a way of self-deception. God never measures us by the fact that there may be worse people around us. Instead we are called to Christ-likeness (which I too need to be reminded of). And for us watching this video: God probably expects more of us than from most people we me say so strongly criticize. I get this from Jesus saying "to whom much is given much will be required". The teaching of John Piper is very much in accord with Jesus so there is much truth for us to live by.

This has helped open my eyes! Thank you for the helpful list of ways to change from having a critical spirit into having a spirit of love like what is talked about in 1 Corinthians… what a gift this was to me! ❤️ In my notes on this lesson, along with what you talked about for #7, I added the passage from Philippians 4:8. That one always comes to mind when I am focusing too much on the negative things in life and not enough on the blessings and gifts that God has provided for all of us, which are too many to count. God, please help us all to see the positives in life! Thank you, John! Your studies and lessons are a great help to my life, and therefore, to my husband and our children’s lives! God bless you in your work for the Lord! Sarah

Spot on! Based directly in pride. Get rid of it!!! High expectations can lead to a hyper critical Spirit. That person inside can do the same thing with themselves. That can result with them unable to live with themselves. At the very least they will be unhappy and rarely satisfied. You have to love yourself before you can show LOVE for another especially your spouse...

So i work with one guy landscaping and he has critical spirit towards me. I do my best to do job but it is imposible to satisfy him, he never wants to engourage me and that leads me to demotivation and discouragement. And I ask the Lord what should i do i that situation. 1 Peter 2:18 comes to my mind, but still i fall in bitterness or some kind a sin. An this mind comes to my mind Colossians 3:23-24. Does any of you brothers and sisters has same situation and how deals with it? God bless you all.
@lauriefreeman32443 жыл бұрын
Hi Milan. I can see how that situation you're dealing with is extremely deflating. The first thing that came to mind was the scripture you cited.. Colossians 3:23-25, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord. So whenever you are criticized, just see if there's any merit to it and make any adjustments without allowing yourself to be offended or resentful because you know who you are working for!! He is pleased with your best work and your best attitude and will reward you. Practice praying for this guy daily and maintain the peace God will give you as you are occupied with pleasing Him. I think the Lord has placed you here to train you to walk in the spirit, to be obedient and to overcome adversity by knowing how much you are loved and how God will use you. See what God will do through you and in you as you set your focus on pleasing Him first. It's all good because God is good and has plans for you! Praying for you!😊🙏🕊

The more I see of my own sin, and fight it and take it really seriously, the more I see the hidden sins of others and I hate it in them as much as I hate it in myself. How can I be zealous for God yet say nothing about those (incl myself) who dishonour God? How do I truly love my brother if I focus on my own sins at the exclusion of their sins, watching them make shipwreck or lose blessing? Is this love? Given that we are ALL sinners, and that we will all be dealing with the planks in our own eyes until the second coming (or our death) then ALL criticism is forbidden at all times?? In what way am I navel-gazing, or people pleasing by ignoring sins in others and just being "nice" and acceptable and easy to live with because I never challenge anyone - if I were still trying to please men I would not be a servant of Christ, etc. Good pointers in above VT but still confused and still trying to figure out what I am supposed to do. Salt has lost its saltiness; light has lost its shine. How can we call people to repentance of we do not expose their sin, and so need of a saviour? It's no wonder so many Christians just sit silently and don't evangelize or hold anyone to account. What helps me is "With the measure you use it will be measured unto you."
@AnHebrewChild2 жыл бұрын
You are not the Holy Spirit. Do you trust him to do his work? Yes or no. Jesus says, Moreover if thy brother shall trespass _against thee,_ go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. Apostle John says, If any man see his brother sin a sin [his own private sin] which is not unto death, he shall pray for him, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death... Sweep your own porch. Pray for your brothers, sisters and neighbours. You do your work. And let the Holy Spirit do his.
