I find it hillarious how people think that American companies pulling out of China (if that were really happening) would cripple China. China alone has 1.4 billion consumers. Losing a smaller market of 340 million would harldy make a dent. And as if American companies would pull out of favorable labor and raw material positions in order to pay more in other places and lose profits margins. Ridiculous.

Sorry in advance for the long reply, thoughts just start coming and I can't stop them. American here, not offended. I'm often reminded that our education system has more gaps than a sieve (a word I never learned in school, and don't think I even encountered until I started watching some British TV shows in my 20s). I've spent the last 15+ years trying to undo some of the damage that I can see, when I see it. Even in college (local college, not university) I was convinced that China barged into Tibet and just took over, whereas now I understand more (and have better resources to look at). I agree that Othmar is likely American, specifically because of the American spelling of "globalization" with a *z* instead of "globalisation" with an *s*. That, plus the glaring American Exceptionalism we learned throughout our school years. @OMEGA, I had a friend in elementary school who was born in Singapore, and his sister was born in Hong Kong. Father is French, mother is American. They were working with their embassies, so they travelled a lot. Honestly, I never gave it much thought and believed until just a couple years ago that they both were just *cities* of China. So does he think Singapore is a province? Maybe, but he (and myself until ashamedly recently, and I believe most Americans) will most likely believe it's part of China in some way, be it province, city, or SAR. Good luck getting an American to know even where Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos is on the map. Admittedly, when you grow up not really learning much about the rest of the world, and your own government doesn't work the way you're taught in school, their governments have a sort of extra layer of mystique that's even harder to understand. Been trying for a couple months now to figure out ways to gently get my parents (especially my dad) out of the "China is run by evil communists" mindset without sounding like a "sympathizer" myself. Rough line to walk.
