How can such a simple side-scroller be THIS FUN? [UFO 50]

You jump, you avoid projectiles, you shoot stars, YOU CAN'T STOP
NINPEK is stupidly addictive and I don't get why
UFO 50 is a collection of 50 retro games developed by high-profile indie dev phenoms, mostly front-faced by Derek Yu, our beloved Spelunky prophet. It has been in the works for many years and it truly is massive.
I'm doing AI thumbnails for all of them because the contrast between plastic AI hyperpolish and the actual 8-bit game makes me giggle. It's like the bait-and-switch of game box vs. game of old.
