Karen talks with me about the overt political bias that has become normal for therapists, to the point where therapists are openly "melting down" over the results of the presidential election. What should a therapist's stance be when working with clients with differing political values? How can we restore respect for diverse opinions and make therapy therapeutic again?
Karen King is a psychotherapist in private practice who has become increasingly concerned by the capture of the counseling field. As owner of a clinic in the PNW, she employed many new therapists during the peak woke times. She also attended a progressive Phd program briefly in 2021 and began to see the intensive degradation of psychotherapy education and training. She has been intensely contemplating and reflecting on this phenomenon for the past 4 years. She offers clinical supervision to new therapists pursuing licensure and respectfully guides them back from an advocacy stance to an ideologically neutral and clinically sound one. Currently, she is running a group for therapists not upset about the election, and feels passionately that we must find a way to come together and join in our silent majority as therapists who are not captured. The integrity of our field depends on it.

HOLDING SPACE POST ELECTION
Tuesdays 12-1 Central Nov 19-Dec 17
Join me in an online weekly consult group specifically for clinicians who do not share the catastrophic view of the election results- whatever party you are or voted for. I get the sense we have a lot to say, and a lot to share and not many places to do that.
I specifically want to focus on our clinical work with clients over the next couple of months, and continue to support each other as we discuss the implications and intricacies of how to hold space for clients who are melting down when we are not.
Please fill out this form to read more about it and to receive an invite!
