I bought a used car from a big multi brand dealership,, because my buddy had the exact same car, and I really liked his car. I asked the salesman, what’s the warranty on this car. He said 100% warranty for 30 days. So I’m sitting there with a pen in my hand ready to sign the contract and I said I don’t see that on here. He impatiently grabbed the contract and wrote across the top, 100% warranty parts and labor, 30 days, AL... I signed the contract. A couple days later, my friend that has the car that I really liked, is driving my car. He said this thing doesn’t shift right. He pointed out how it was not shifting correctly, and we drove his car and compared, he was right So rather than go back to Al at the dealership. I called the dealership service department and asked if they fix transmissions. They said yes we do bring it in. The mechanic took the car for a drive and said there’s something going on in there we need to take a closer look. So I left the car at the dealership service department. three hours later I get a call from the service department telling me that the valve body is bad, the torque converter is bad, it would be best just to plug-in a whole new rebuilt transmission because there was a lot of metal particles circulating around in the fluid. I said oh my gosh, well, I guess you better do it. two days later I go to pick up the car. They presented me with a big bill. I pulled out my receipt for the car that said it’s under warranty parts and labor for 30 days. The cashier said wait a minute, she went and got the service manager, he went and got the mechanic, the service manager called the sales used car manager, he called Al the salesman, they got the whole dealership manager. They were having a huddle in the middle of the service department floor like you would see during a football game with the players on the field. I was 22 years old at the the time.. The smooth talking general manager came over to me and politely said with a smile, why didn’t you tell us the car was here to be looked at under warranty. I said, why did you fix the transmission if there was nothing wrong with it? I didn’t tell you that the transmission was bad, you told me the transmission was bad. At that point, while I was waiting, I saw my keys hanging on a wall Just behind the service desk/counter.I walked over and took my keys off the hook, and started walking towards the exit to get to my car which was outside/ done.., I turned around and waved to the guys in the huddle and yelled thank you, and I got in my car and drove away...

I love the video. I worked as a service director at a high line dealership in Columbus, Ohio. Casey I am sure you know who it is. It is the only lamborghini dealer or Ferrari dealer in columbus. I got out of that industry after 18 years at different shops whether aftermarket or dealership because honest people get screwed over as employees in those places. Listening to your video is stuff I saw on a daily basis from other advisers and that dishonest behavior is not only not frowned upon but encouraged. It's a shame. I left the Ferrari dealer in Columbus over some very shady practices involving ACP O warranty on a Ferrari FF that was not processed through Ferrari and they customer put 8 miles on the car before he came back complaining of a noise and come to find now they wanted me to tell the customer it was going to be $20000 to replace the rear brake pads and rear brake rotors on a Ferrari FF. You and I both know A car kit not be CPO if certain standards aren't met and then once a customer pays money for the CPO warranty it has to be processed. I ended up writing a letter on behalf of the customer to Ferrari to get them involved because of the shady practices that went on and it ultimately cost me a job. Good riddance. I live in the Dublin area of Columbus and I have seen your Viper around and it looks good happy to see the videos doing well

Actually had a chevy dealer do some work on the wife's car, it was the excessive oil consumption issue on the 2.4 4cyl. In our case we were at the upper end of the mileage range that covered the recall work but when they did the work and shipped the car home the engine light came on in less than 10 miles. We took the car back and they told us it was a cam actuator and a sensor. They tried to charge us like $600 I called them and GM and told them the problems they were describing didn't exist before the recall top end rebuild, pistons rods rings timing chain and gears ect...The dealer fixed the car even before GM called them for me and sent us on our way with a small bill which was legitimate, I can't remember what it was. I was shocked they were so willing to do that that they made a customer for life. Not that we buy a lot of cars but when we do they will be the first place we look.

I have never heard of a warranty that would cover rotors and brake pads even if it were a CPO. Maintenance plan maybe, but as you know maintenance plans are basically a lump sum upfront with a discount of about 25% built-in. If the dealership you were working at was committing warranty fraud, that’s one thing but I have seen similar situations where there was not any type of fraud involved. If there was a known issue with the braking system and it was sold CPO with the intention of the service department repairing the vehicle after it was sold, then that is fraud. As you know, something can be working today and it stops working tomorrow

Brake Rotors and Pads go 15,000 miles on the most aggressive sport Pad, Rotor combos. Track use 1/20th of that but we are talking 500-2000+ operations from just about any speed. 8 or 80 miles of street use and there are problems means the system was assembled missing some part. The Ferrari FF was bought because it is perfect, not because it is supported by Niko in the back. If breaks wear is an issue and the wheels and tires match went out the door, fix the breaks and appoligise profusly. Service for a dealership isnt hard, provide sufficient documentation and the factory pays off at 90% of retail labor rate and 100% of the true cost of parts. The dealership who are impossiable to deal with have virtualy nothing in the parts shop and are on credit hold for parts. The dealer has a brand new big boat in Boca instead of the parts in inventory paid for by warranted claims. Oh look there is big ballance after the monthly check comes in from GM, account lets spend it, tell the parts counter and the wrenches to go get Fed and put a jerk at the service desk to bring in cash flow to get us off credit hold.

Chris Hull wow. The truth. I always wondered why my dealership NEVER had parts in stock. How can they not have an alternator for a modern Hemi sitting on the shelf? It took two weeks to get one, and since my car was under warranty, they replaced the steering rack which they said had “some leakage”, even though I never saw anything on the driveway, and man do I keep track of that, having restored old cars in the past. Well, I got the new alternator, but the steering was FUCKED, and took 3 YEARS to get it right! That’s right, I took it in for an alternator and it came out with the steering wheel sitting at the 10:30 position to go straight, and if I let the wheel go, it would head to the right immediately. Nice work guys. Even a simple R&R could not be done right.

After a dealer behaves so dishonestly, how comfortable can you feel leaving a car there for service?
@andrewhigdon8346
@andrewhigdon8346 4 жыл бұрын
Don P not very comfortable. I’ve got a story I’ll put above. But short story. I bought a car new, then got the manufacturer lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. All same dealership mind you. 13+year relationship. After years of BS, I politely called out the service manager who claimed that my alignment was “perfect” when it clearly was not. I mean you could look at the wheels and see it wasn’t aligned correctly. Well they BANNED me from the dealership!!! I went over their heads to the parent company and got un-banned. That service manager could not look me in the eye, even after congratulating him for being a company man and standing his ground. I had the car serviced soon after and all was fixed properly. In fact when they were forced to un ban me I had a meeting with the powers that be. Man that was interesting. I told them we would need 3-4 hrs of time for discussion, and they looked at each other, a bit puzzled. That was at 5:30pm. At 7:30 we were nowhere near done, as I had 13 yrs of documentation showing where they had jerked me around over and over and over. But the warranty had covered the vast majority of the expense, but not my time wasted on return visits, which were extensive. They also realized that I had them by the balls, and that I had no intention of going the litigious route, as that would only hurt all of us, and no one would be better off, and I implored them to rectify the issue. They also realized that I knew a lot more about cars than joe average, and was not willing to just roll over when confronted. I had evidence on my side. They were at risk of losing the dealership, were I not satisfied, and they knew it. I brought up so many instances of BS, with names of the service writers and the time of the incident, and the crappy made up stories they would tell me. They were kind of stunned. I even noted that I had respected some of those guys, but lost it when they clearly screwed me. One guy had told me that they had determined that a loud suspension clunking from the rear of my car was “rocks, stuck in the bumper cover”. I looked at each one of the men in the meeting and said aloud, “rocks,......in the bumper cover”, next guy, looking right in the eyes, “rocks,......in the bumper cover”. At that point it was 7:30 and I said, “ok gentlemen, I think we should take a dinner break and resume discussions tomorrow morning, if needed”. It wasn’t needed. After the various repairs, the main regional service manager insisted he take a ride with me in the car to make sure I was satisfied. I was. They did a great job. But it took a fight. And I came prepared. I brought a mountain of cold hard evidence to their knife fight. They couldn’t cut it.

Dealerships really do suck, but the thing I'm more worried about is mechanics taking my baby for an unwelcomed "test drive". Dont get me wrong, I know not all mechanics are bad, and I really appreciate the work they do, and I also understand they arent the ones screwing people over. However, I've heard stories and seen videos of cars that went in for servicing going out for joy rides. That's why I keep my dashcam in the car when I drop it off.

@@andrewhigdon8346 the fact that you have to go through all that shit just to get them to fix your car is the problem. Warranties are a scam. You have to go through hell and back just to get the dealership to honor it. People think they cover themselves buying a new car and a warranty when the dealers will try and screw you in every way. I agree with Casey's approach, buy a depreciated slightly older car, do simple maintenance yourself (I'm not great mechanically but I can do things like change oil) and find a trusted local independent mechanic to do more complicated work. There are skilled honest mechanics out there if you look, actually they often come from originally working in car dealerships and getting fed up with their scam tactics, overcharging, and substandard service.

I took my old BMW in for a recall and they did a complimentary "full" vehicle inspection (thank fuck for that, my wheel might have fallen off if they hadn't spotted a splitting bearing!). Based on all the shit they missed that I could see in the video, and also all the parts I subsequently had to replace on the engine which weren't even looked at, I would never trust my car to these people. If something needs doing and I don't know how to do it - I'll learn how. If I physically can't, there are a couple of people I trust to work on it. At least then, if I fuck it up, I only have myself to blame.

You sell the cars, warranty work is part of the equation. You can't sell the car with a warranty, sell extended warranties and then complain you don't make enough to fix them. I was asked again, another dealer (happened when I moved) why I brought a car to my local dealer, not where I bought it by service manager." I got car when dad died and I don't live where he did, why does that matter? It's under powertrain warranty." He was sorry he asked. I cant tell my boss which repairs I do based on how long they take, how much I will make or how hard they are. I have friends that have been dealer and independent mechanics. I laugh when they cry about book rate and warranty jobs paying less. I tell them did you know when you took the job? That's the job. Someone spends $30-40k on a car to have a covered car and the people that are supposed to cover it dont want to and complain about the owners that are the reason dealer need technicians. I now avoid dealer and use a local mechanic for anything I cant do and only use dealer for covered repairs because of the advisors, managers and dealer techs. If they were decent I would give them the easier profitable maintenance work but now they get only what I don't pay for. That's on dealership employees. I tried to be loyal and they try to rob you. Local guy can change my fluids, belts, tires, etc. Dealer wanted over $1300 for tires, local Firestone, literally across the street under $800 for a better mileage tire.

I'm a service advisor at a dealership. The factory warranty I work with is fairly inclusive for everything that isn't outside influence (IE a rock going through a radiator). The manufacturer sets the terms for warranty coverage and pays for the work, not the dealership itself. Everyone seems to think it's the dealer paying for the work when that's not the case at all. Every dealer should have a competent warranty administrator to handle claims, not burden the service staff itself.

@Sam S I don't fully understand everything I've read in your comments, could you elaborate further? Digital service history gets lost as a side effect of switching tools used to write repair orders. Businesses are required to keep hard documents for a variable amount of time depending on the state. Work done under warranty is kept on file by the manufacturer as well. I'd like to address your other concerns but I need clear information to do so.

I have experienced similar issues with dealerships. Now to divulge a bit about myself. I am a former mechanic of many years, had to give it up due to a major back injury. Anyway I have worked for various dealerships over the year as well as independent shops. Now to let you know there are good mechanics and bad ones. I consider myself one of the good ones in that I never tried to up sell any customer and I certainly would never rip them off. Every time I would get a vehicle for repair, no matter the reason I would always look the car over for anything that needed repair or replacement and would inform the customer just for their benefit specifically things, that if taken care of at the time, would save them money down the road. As for warranty, damn I had my share of that kind of work, however I always treated it the same as I would a non-warranty job even though in most cases it paid a lot less in hours for me, and I gave that customer the same quality work as a non-warranty job. The people you really have to watch for in dealerships, for the most part, are the Service Writers, who rarely know shit about cars, and Service Managers, who also rarely know shit about cars, reason I say this is because I actually had more than a few experiences of my own where I would tell the SW's or SM what type or repair the car needed at that time and I caught them on the phone with that customer telling them that "my mechanic said that you need this, and this, and this, and this, etc... when I actually told the SW or SM that it only needed just this. Umm yea, with one I actually yanked the phone out of his hand and told the customer the truth and when done with the customer I turned to the SW and told him that if I ever caught or even heard of him lying like that to a customer again I would kick the ever loving shit out of him. Yes I also told one SM, after an argument over me leaving an hour early because the shop was dead, that I would mop the shop floor with his face if he didn't shut his mouth, needless to say he had never had a mechanic stand up to him like that and yes he got real quiet real fast. LOL Anyway, good video, good information and I know this comment was a bit long winded but I wanted to let you and others know that there are good and bad dealerships and good and bad mechanics. As always it is a good thing to contact a car manufacturer rep before you take you car in for service or when you cannot get anything resolved with the service dept of a given dealership.

Waranty work is paid by the manufacturer at a lower hourly rate than what a dealership is used to charging, they also have a set time to do it, it it takes them longer they only get paid for the specified hours assigned to that fix. This is the reason they hate doing warranty. Sometimes we get warranty parts back from the dealer for root cause analysis and they'll throw in parts from other vehicles into the ticket trying to get paid for them by the supplier. Dealers are shady for sure.

I have not had problems with shady dealership practices - although walking in and making it known that you know what you're talking about helps - they don't try to BS you when you come in and tell them "hey, sounds like the throwout bearing is failing." But what I HAVE had happen, REPEATEDLY - is clueless and careless warranty work, where things were not put back together correctly, things not torqued correctly, things broken while "fixing" other parts, just poor workmanship. I now go over all warranty work just to make sure everything is done right, because...it often isn't.

With regards to "clueless and careless" warranty work, I think that has to do with how technicians are paid in USA. Warranty work pays less than customer pay work, so some technicians will work much faster rushing to try to finish a warranty job in the time that it pays instead of trying to do the job as best they can.For example: to replace the pistons on a Volvo Drive-e engine (4 cylinder, turbo, direct injection) pays a little over 11 hours under warranty for oil consumption. If you look up the individual labor time on that engine to replace the head gasket and balance shaft assembly (both of which must be removed to replace pistons), it is close to 13 hours. That is before the technician even removes the pistons from the engine, swaps the pistons onto the connecting rods and puts them back into the engine! Then, the connecting rod caps have a torque spec + angle torque, the balance shaft assembly requires a dial indicator to set the gear backlash correctly as it is bolted (torque spec) to the bottom of the engine, cylinder head bolts are torque + angle, direct fuel injectors need special tools to replace the seals and high pressure fuel pipes have torque specs at the fittings. When I do this job, it takes me about 20 hours. I have all the torque wrenches, dial indicators and other tools it takes to do the job right. Some techs are 100% power tools, full speed and hell bent to get that job done in the 11 hours it pays. As long as it runs, it's done they say. So the guy who does the job as best he can, works for free for 9 hours. The guy who completed the job in the allotted time leaves a disaster in the engine bay. So what's fair? A man working for free or half assed work?

@obits3 4 жыл бұрын
@@ghostwrench2292 if the manufacturer is not paying for the full repair time, that's still on you as a representative of the company. If you don't like that, then change dealerships to another manufacturer. Keep in mind that most of your "customer pay" jobs only exist because of the manufacturer of the car. People pay dealership prices because their car is what that dealer is supposed to specialize in selling, maintaining, and fixing. Also, people usually come to the dealer they bought from for warranty work. If they get shit service under warranty, they will probably go to a private shop when the warranty runs out. That's lost money doing oil changes, other fluids, tires, and the easier repairs.

inverse to that last story, The best warranty experience I had was buying the extended warranty from Carmax on a Landrover Discovery 2. Spent 2600 on the warranty. It spent half it's life in various shops all paid for by Carmax while we drove rentals that they also paid for. By the time it died by getting forced off the road by a logging truck coming the other way and ripped the roof off on a tree, Carmax had paid around 26K in repairs and rentals. That Landrover was the worst decision I've made when it came to car purchases, but the warranty was the best!

I will add another dealership story. I bought a Certified used Cobalt on Friday, and the check engine light came on Sunday. Took the car back to the dealership as it was still under the warranty. It turned out to be a clogged fuel filter. Additionally they were trying to charge me for a cabin air filter. While I understood the filters are not a warranty repair. I asked the sales manager if part of the certified inspection included checking and replacing the air filters if necessary, which it was, and if it was possible to wear them out in one weekend, and of course it wasn’t. In other words the car was sold with filters that should have been replaced, and it missed their inspection. After speaking with GM and the Sales manager all the fees were waived. I suspect some of their motivation behind presenting a high repair bill is that might motivate a client to buy a new car from them. Their logic is flawed but like you said some of them like to use scare tactics. I always remember what is right cannot be measured by strength.

When it needs a battery I'll change it myself. I know it is a British battery with smaller posts so I can't buy it at a parts store, only at a Toyota dealer. Had a BMW M5 Dinan S2, extended warranty. Thing was always in the shop but it was covered even with the modifications. Moved, and next time it went into the new local dealer shop, it came out owing money...What? Turns out that dealership decided their shop rate exceeded the shop rate that the warranty allowed for. I've had aircraft worked on for less than their shop rate....thieves! The next time after that, the rear view mirror started malfunctioning and the electrochromatic film started leaking internally getting the weird oily look to it. They tried to deny the bumper to bumper coverage because it didn't cover fluids...... WTF. I told them fine, get me the new part, take the 'fluid' out of my old mirror, and re-use it in my new mirror. lol. Covered. Didn't want to go through any of this again, so sold the car and never bought another BMW. Been 15 years now. Edit: Oh, yea, and it was in Chicago. Naperville.

It's not uncommon for an extended warranty company to have a labor rate limit that doesn't cover the shop labor rate. Oftentimes, the labor for service on M cars and 7 series is higher than the standard shop rate. What with the special tools and certified technicians to work on those high performance/high tech cars, the dealer has to cover their expenses. Also, E39 M5? drooling.

Warranty "time" pays less than customer pay. Service departments charge "hours" at an hourly rate. For example, shop charges 115 dollars an hour for repair. Let's say your head gasket blew under warranty. Warranty "time" pays 6 "hours" to perform the repair and customer time is 10 hours for the repair. That's why they use tactics like saying the vehicle was abused or deny the warranty claim maybe by saying the item is not covered. At the end of the day the whole game is to beat the time paid. It may only take 4 hours to do the job but it still pays 6 or 10 hours depending on who foots the bill.

@John Smithy that's usually how it works. There sometimes is a guide, be it Chilton or All Data for Customer pay work. But the manufacturer has its own labor time guide. The tech can either get paid the same hourly rate or some dealers pay techs a little more for warranty jobs. I had a conversation with a factory district manager once and he had a good explanation. Something like "we are your biggest customer, so we get a discount".

@Steve T, the problem with dealerships isn't the overhead costs. It's the lack of transparency. Dealerships get kickbacks from the manufacturer based on sales numbers. So they can sell (at least some) cars below the book value and still come out ahead at the end of the quarter. Additionally, they have mixed interests. Ford, as a manufacturer, only wants to sell Fords. And they really only want to sell new Fords. So they would have no interest in buying your 8 year old Honda from you. But dealerships will sell anything. And that allows them to leverage different components of a deal against each other. "I can only give you $6000 on your trade in if you buy one of these two models. If you buy something else, your trade-in value is $4500."

i work for a dealership. i have been there close to 7 years as a tech. i dont understand what the dealerships were doing to your friends. it makes zero sense. the dealership gets paid either way. either the customer pays for non warranty repair, or the manufacture pays for it under warranty at the dealerships labor rate. where it differs is warranty time is typically less then non warranty time. like lets say a evap core on a vehicle under warranty might only pay 14 hours but customer pay would be closer to 20. part of having the license to sale a particular brand of car/truck is that they are responsible to repair the vehicles at an agreed warranty time and rate to the specs of the manufacture. also manufactures pays cost for parts cuz well its their parts. as a customer pay parts have a mark up. that being said , i cant tell you how many times i have had jobs /repairs that were out of warranty get covered under manufacture asst /aka goodwill with reduce cost, or a deductible, or no cost to the customer. it kind sucks for a tech based on i get less money for doing the repair based on the difference in labor but the customer gets taken care of and it will most likely lead to a repeat customer for not just warranty repairs but all repairs/maintenance. it retains customers and gives favorable reviews of dealerships/manufactures. also dealerships get surveyed for repairs /recalls under warranty by the manufacture and if a dealership has a bad CSI ( customer service/suvery index) the dealership can lose money and benefits the manufacture gives them. let alone get people to lose jobs. or the owners of the dealership lose their license to sale that brand.

Where did you get your information about how dealerships get paid way less for warranty work? Or are you going on the “well everybody says that so it must be true” mentality. Very lame. Warranty work does pay less than customer pay work in the amount of hours that can be billed. The reason for this is that the companies that publish the books that say how much labour time that you can charge are making allowances for rusted, seized parts, more dirt which requires more time to clean and as they say time is money

Old Jags were lucky to make it off the lot without failure, but they were pretty, and passion can make us all do some stupid things. When Ford took over Land Rover and Jag and Aston Martin, things looked better, if not homogenous, st least for awhile. Ever notice how the Jag coupe and the Astons are almost indistinguishable without seeing the headlights or taillights. How about the modern Fords aping the Aston grille? My buddy has an S Type, and even though the engine is MOSTLY Jag only, it is relatively easy to work on. The short block might be unique to Jag, but most of the ancillary parts are Ford too.

I won't disclose the location but i was a technician at a Honda dealership. at first i loved it but i started noticing no one was doing tire rotations and brake fluid flushes and other important work that the customer was paying for. after about 2 weeks of this i went to the parts department and just casually stated "man these tire rotations are killing me" the guy working parts department stated that that particular location had an award for the most tire rotations sold in the country of USA and aimed to achieve the award yearly by selling tire rotaions even if it was unnecessary. one day a customer actually wrote on his wheels on the inside so you couldn't see it but he wrote so he could tell if they were rotated. wellll that day it happened to be my turn to do his car. of course i did the service correctly! the customer immediately stated that they were not rotated well service writer called me in and talked to me and i stated the fact that i did do the service and if it was necessary i would be willing to wait after hours to review cameras to prove i did it. the service writer told the customer i did it and the customer went out and checked again and realized i did the service. moral of the story here is that this customer obviously had this happen previously at this location and he was ready to catch the deaership in the act. i regularly rotated good tires off of the driven wheels without reasoning even if the others were terrible. i also had a car come in with 2 tires that had broken belts. i stated i was unwilling to do the tire rotation and that the customer needed to have the tires replaced. i did not want the liability of his death so i checked the lug nut torque and handed the keys to the service writer fully willing to deal with the repercussions. one final thing i was told was even though the service manual required the transfer case and front and rear differentials on their new vehicles to be serviced at 15k miles and 30k miles for the first 30k miles of the vehicles life then after that it was every 30k miles from there on out for the life of the vehicle. this i found was due to the fact if the customer doesnt do the service then the dealership does not have to honor a warranty if the part breaks. very very soon after i quit. this to me was upsetting because i truly wanted to help the customers and i personally thought that being in a dealership we would take care of our returning customers who bought new cars and brought them to us.

My Ram 2500 Megacab just ran out of warranty. I used to sell cars 15 years ago at Mercedes and Porsche and we charged $95/hr in 2004. So I have a bad connection on my Trailer Harness so I told the service department to troubleshoot it and he told me that the Hourly rate is $180/Hr. WTF? that a lot of fing money to work on Dodges.

You have a very good knowledge about car engine, thanks a lot for sharing. As the part of dealership, they don't make a lot of money with selling cars, they make a lot of money with service department. I have a Lexus Rx 350 which is considered as one the most reliable car out there, haven't got any problem since day 1 (Yet). Recently, I bought my car in for running board installation and they told me that it would cost $1200, ok fine, it saw that's the price the Lexus website. Then Last week, I went there again to switch my car from 2019 to 2020 (I change my car every year, Yes), I asked them if the running board transferable, they said yes it's $1200 fee ( lol ) I was like WTF :D. They charge $120/h and 8 hours of work for transferring the board. Ridiculous.

Ford told me the seal between engine and trans was leaking. At some point upon going to other shops, non dealership, they lifted it up to check for a wheel bearing and overall condition. They said my axels were leakong; I asked them about seal between engine and trans was fine. They woulda charged me 9 hrs labor and part for $1000, that wasn't even broken. I was a service advisor for some time at a Dodge dealership here in the States, I can assure you, we were audited at least 1 time per quarter and if there was any discrepencies then there were disciplinary actions taken or possibly termination. There are some really shitty people in dealerships for sure but those people also exist in any other industry. I never tried to not cover something under warranty because honestly it was much easier for me to contact a customer and say " This is the issue, parts have been ordered and the repair should be completed by this time" than it was to say "So your brand new vehicle needs this part and you have to pay for it." Its bullshit the amount of pressure is put on an advisor or tech yet when you go to the doctor and get misdiagnosed, you just go back and say hey thats not working so they can throw another subscription at you to get you out of the office. If you go into a situation with the idea that your going to get screwed over then regardless of what the results are you will believe you got screwed. I enjoyed helping people and being a tech before an advisor I did quite a few simple repairs for free on the drive so that the vehicle wouldnt be down for something that required 10 minutes to repair or replace

345Daytona - you are right, MegaRyan is an idiot. I have 20 years with American Honda and dealerships, my wife has 21 with Honda and now Toyota. We have both performed thousands of labor audits (checking physical RO’s, contacting customers, etc), and I’ve done thousands of sales audits too (registrations aka RDR, sales programs, incentives, etc). What that dipstick is talking about is one of the few actual ways an OEM can revoke a Sales & Service Agreement (aka Dealer Agreement, Franchise). Dealers can be stupid, retarded, ignorant, rude assholes all day. The only way to stop it...take your business to a good dealer. But falsify claims, warranty, promotions....then you’ve got real problems. The Manufacturers have more money, time, and lawyers than any dealer, and they WILL penalize them - up to revoking the SSA. When I left AHM and was a GM of a store, I knew the system. I also knew better than to fudge, cheat, or forge documents and NEVER did, nor would I condone it at any level. MegaRyan, step into my office...you’re fuckin’ fired.

Failed my state inspection because the E-break was faulty luckily the dealership repaired it at no extra cost to me. Now im noticing a grinding sound which i suspect is the dustcap rubbing against rusted rotors and will need to contact them again even though i asked them to check the breaks while they had the car because it jitters when breaking at high speeds. Just trying to hone in on what they're responsible for under the 30 day warrety.

@@machintelligence shop lifting and a mechanic trying to sell a service so that he can pad his hrs are 2 different things. I was referring to customers paying and then billing the warranty company isn't worth the trouble. I was simply responding to double dipping response. Trying to sell a unneeded service isn't illegal but beyond unethical I agree. That behavior is strongly condemned. Service writers are plugged with sometimes 30 guests and clearly not all waiting in the waiting room and although not fare to the guests the service writer takes to recommended services from the mechanics and there goes the roll of the bullshit of the a part of the automotive industry. I'm not a 100% supporter of dealership policy and would like to have the manufacturer's decision makers in a room for a extended period of time but I've watched and listened to more bullshit lies from guests then could ever imagine. I invite anyone to walk in a sales reps shoes even as just a spectator for a week. I was the get your job done and don't worry about another's job and go home to your family guy. I truly respect your take on what happened I really do but the truth to where the disappointment fingers being pointed at isn't where everyone should be pointing. The truth is the manufacturer makes all the rules and there isn't a dealer out there strong enough to take them on and risk the franchise or financial bonuses from the manufacturer. Big fan of your vinwiki stories and this channel too. I have seen several other videos also about the dealerships in USA. To be honest this isn't the case at all in India. They are actually helpful. I have a Suzuki, a hyundai and a honda. And my experience with all three of those has been exceptional. For example I was having some issues with my hyundai the other day, i took it to the dealership. It is a 4 years old out of warranty car. They checked it and gave me an estimate of 7000 rs that is about 100 dollars for both front wheel bearings and another issue was the silencer was making weird noises and thry recommended me to get that repaired outside so that it would be repaired while in company it would've to be replaced and that would be expensive. So allover my experience has been very good with dealerships in India.

Not sleazy.. there aloud to attach there computer to your vehicle for a diagnosis anything found can be repaired. all warranty work has to be approved and the first thing they do is read the error codes that's sent directly to them and before it's fixed it's repaired. ALL new vehicle dealership franchises are audited sometimes three and four times a year. There not interested in fudging the numbers for even $50k since the manufacturer's are able to stripe the owner of there multi-million dollar franchise. i have worked in and around dealerships my whole life, more often than not the techs in the shop will refuse warranty work because they wont receive the same pay as they usually get piece rate with warranty work not generating revenue other than the companies reimbursement for parts. a number of times i watched techs flinging tools and throwing temper tantrums because they had to spend 2 hours on a warranty claim and couldnt pick and choose what they wanted to do. also if the warranty claims person doesnt do their job properly and efficiently then those mechanics wont get paid at all and the parts cost could be taken from the mechanic. if the warranty claim requires parts replacement and has a parts failure before the parts specified lifetime and it is shown to be a technician/installation fault then the mechanic can be charged for the part as well. 9 out of 10 warranty claims at the dealership i worked at werent even diagnosed properly or serviced cheaply I.E cheap parts store parts instead of the more expensive dealer parts to make a profit on the warranty claim which by nearly every companies warranty standards is illegal.

The reason that some dealerships don't want to do warrantee is that they ether break even or loose money. The shop is the high profit for the dealership. The only sell cars to keep shop busy. If you want to know when to purchase a car ( work as a salesperson for a couple) the end of the year, as it a conversion of monthly, quarterly, and end of year. Which means they really will make deals near the end of the year if you can wait. Next is midyear for almost same reason. The first of the year and first of the month are the worst times to purchase.

Eric Teeter you are wrong about dealerships just breaking even or losing money on warranty work. The techs are paid by flat rate (google it) not by the hour so even if it takes the tech a lot longer than it should he only gets paid what the established time is to do the job and that is also what the manufacturer will pay the dealership. The tech may lose money on the repair but not the dealer. Also the service department is not the money maker for the dealer, it is the sales department. If the money was in service and not sales why wouldn’t that establishment stop selling cars and only do repairs to cars. In other words, give up their license. No more warranty hassles. Some dealership owners have said that if they could they would only sell cars and not even have a service department but they can’t cause if the dealership didn’t have a service and parts department the manufacturer won’t give them a contract to be a dealer in the first place. I worked over forty years in the automotive industry.
