(dysphoria trigger warning)🙃 If gender is purely a social construct, why do biological differences influence its expression, and why isn't it a matter of personal choice? Conversely, if gender is purely biological, why do cultural norms and expectations shape its identity? If gender cannot be precisely defined or described, why is it problematic to consider that a child asked/expected to reflect on their gender might struggle to understand what it is their truly reflecting on and identifying with? The notion that people, including children, cannot lie to themselves often arises, yet self-deception is a recognized phenomenon. Individuals may deceive themselves to align with societal norms, protect their self-concept (people who believe they are aliens, gods, other mammals), or to avoid uncomfortable ideas, suggesting that self-awareness and identity exploration are intricate processes influenced by both internal AND external factors. I don’t know man, these things seem important to consider.
