I was a CT original reservation holder. However I made the mistake of going to see one at the Tesla service center. Four things I noticed caused me to drop it just a few weeks ago. 1) price increase... my original config was a dual motor with FSD... estimated cost $59K... which would have already been a stretch but doable. Now... forget it. 2). I've gotten old waiting on it. Too many years and now I don't need a new truck since in the interim I had to drop a new engine and tranny in my existing Honda Ridgeline. I'm also just not doing the building, yardwork, and hauling projects that I used too. 3) The back door entries suck. The B pillar doesn't go straight down but curves severely towards the back as it meets the floor. I have big feet and had a hard time getting my foot to clear that without my heel jamming into the seat. Bad design making the backseat difficult to get into for full size adults. No wonder they made the doors open 90 degrees. It would be almost impossible to get in otherwise. 4) Looks. I'm one of the people who thought it looked great in pics and was sold on it. But now I think it looks like crap in person. Except the bed of the truck and tailgate which are great. The external little stainless trim pieces that arch over the door windows are tinny and ugly. Glued on flat pieces that serve no purpose but look cheap and possibly slice your hand open if you are not paying attention. Inside is utilitarian and downright spartan for that kind of money. How in the F is anyone supposed to be able to wash the inside of that front window down to where it meets the dash? How can you reach it? It's spacious in the front but the seats are the same size as my model Y. I would expect them to be bigger for big, working men. Those men will be uncomfortable. Ridiculous. My advice is to reduce the center console storage and get bigger seats.

I ordered mine on day three after the unveiling. I declined the foundation series, but at this point I’m getting emails to update configuration to the non-foundation series. It also notes that as a reservation holder, I will continue to receive priority delivery. Basically, they went through the list and most of those people declined the foundation series. However, instead of going through that list again, which conceivably would be difficult logistically, they have simply opened up availability for anyone to order. I don’t think it means that all of those people who originally ordered and skipped the foundation series have canceled their order. I just think Tesla opened the floodgates to everyone, while still giving priority to those who had placed their orders. I don’t think those people who were in the line are particularly upset since they don’t have access to the federal rebate yet and probably would be happy to continue to wait until that becomes available.

If Tesla managed to deliver the Cybertruck for $40K, they would not be able to build enough to satisfy the huge demand. The pickup truck market is HUGE, and Ford, Chevy, and Dodge sell a ton of basic gas powered trucks where drivers don't need towing, super long daily range, rear wheel steering, etc.. I do think that the Cybertruck will come down to the $60K price point within a year, and I think that demand will rise a great deal when that happens. Of course their competition is a moving target as well, with the Ford F150 Lightning and EV Silverado dropping in price as well. Plus the bigger market is always gas and diesel powered pickups, and getting the Cybertruck's down to under $60K (which is under the average price of all pickups in the U.S.) will help drive Cybertruck sales. I do like the mid-gate idea, and I agree that Tesla should concentrate on building a cheaper base Cybertruck to drive sales.

Most of your ideas for cost reduction are spot on, except for the door steel. Its minimal cost and replacing with thinner steel would require re-engineering with the addition of side impact beams. Also more crash verification. Not much payoff there. Demand will increase as more folks become accustomed to it and there’s less social pressure against it. As a CT owner I can attest that it is a very capable vehicle and the only real drawback is the amount of hate it gets. It is a real and palpable thing that can’t be discounted when folks shop for cars. The truck market, in particular, can be very tribal.

You could save a tonne of money by doing a version that has no tonneau cover and is not a pickup. Just take the roof and extend it back, and put opening doors on the back like a transit van. Ideal for camping, headroom to 'live' in, vastly more storage than any pickup can manage, better for pets and for businesses and much less complex to build. Stripping out luxuries is an obvious option as well. Who cares about the dashboard material? Reviewers are constantly stroking that stuff and saying it feels bad. Stop stroking your car, that's a weird thing to do. You should care if the seat material chafes you even through jeans, or is hard to keep clean. You should care if they used piano black anywhere because we banned that under the Geneva Conventions (didn't we? Why not!). You should not care if the plastic is cool looking or not. A better thing to care about is if there's void behind what you can see, and if there is, why is that not storage you can access? Yes, dropping the cost of the steel seems like a no brainer. It always crack me up that people think they couldn't make a sub $25K vehicle easily. Yeah... just strip out every luxury you can, and job done. Do I need heated seats? Well... probably not in a good chunk of the world. Do I need unnecessary range? Definitely not. I don't really even need maximum bladder range if we're being honest. Do I need 2-4 extra seats? Well.. no, actually a one seater enclosed vehicle with more storage space would be much more useful to me than even a 2 seater, but I'd happily take a 2 seater that isn't as pointlessly big as the Cybercab. Why does it need so much boot space? Because I've not heard of one bag travel and am enjoying the hellscape that is extra time in the airport?

If Tesla follows past marketing practice (eventually) the cost of the Cybertruck will decrease in order to entice more sales. But, there will likely be some downgrading from the current configuration. I'd love to see Tesla upgrade the interior to better align with the MX and MS but that is a pipe dream. Self presenting/closing doors would be most welcome as I am a disabled veteran and have some mobility issues. Closing the car door is not impossible but can be very difficult for me.

All of the above, plus a newer “cybercell” with lower COGS and longer range. If that happens, the truck would become more than an expensive flex machine.

It's a strong possibility that sales will not increase with a cheaper price. Very few people would want a cybertruck as their only vehicle

Especially since the $60k Cybertruck is only 2wd. The ICE equivalent is half the price.

@@TroySavaryNo new ICE truck is half the price if one considers saving $300, $400 or more per month in fuel with the EV truck. The more it's driven, the more it saves. Then there's no oil and filter changes, no stolen catalytic converters or damaged mufflers or exhaust. No paint, ding or rust repairs. No brake pad or rotor replacements for life of vehicle because of regenerative braking. No transmission or fluid replacement. No transfer case or oil changing. Hundreds of less parts and next to no maintenance. No weekly gas station visits. They're quicker, quieter, smoother and more powerful. The EV battery and drivetrain warranty is 8 years and 120,000 to 150,000 miles. Batteries can last 500,000 miles or more. Electric motors can last 1 million miles.

@midifool992 ай бұрын
I've seen a product that routes an air hose from the side window to wherever you want climate control. Probably a fairly simple DIY.
@CT_KD6-3.72 ай бұрын
The air suspension and the rolling tonneau cover for 15K less would be an awesome deal imo 🤔. An option for a non tonneau cover CT for a mid-gate/retractable rear glass version may sell very well. The tow hitch should also be optional (the deletion of which would make that rear bumper overhang smaller w/more ground clearance). Camping in the bed of the CT (with that cyber tent no less) is a no-go for me. There is no comfortable way to sleep 2 people inside the CT right now. I have Model Y LR set up with a Lost Horizon mattress (sleeps 2 inside the car w/climate and entertainment), and an Acopower sub trunk fridge. Tesla also needs to option in a front bench seat, and fold flat (forward or rearward) front seats 🤔. At this point consumers have seen the relative ease with which Tesla implements changes/modifications to their lineup, and are likely waiting (present company included) until then to purchase. If Tesla can bring it down to 74,990 (plus the 7,500 credit), final price of 67,490, they that will definitely be very attractive to consumers.

I got into Tesla in 2019 after the Cybertruck reveal and bought a reservation on Jan 31st 2019. Back then it was all about busting mainstream media FUD that was easy for the Tesla community to debunk. Elon haters in 2020 seemed to have chips on their shoulders. But when I look at the simplicity & form factor of that Telo truck, vs the overprice, overweight, under-spec disaster of Cybertruck, I really do see how Elon's ego gets in the way of practical, affordable EV. I want to see that Telo reach production and I will get one instead of Cybertruck Inshallah.

I am still on the list, waiting for the RWD. I do not need a 80K AWD truck. Tesla delivered 5,175 Cybertrucks in July, compared to a combined 5,546 registrations of every non-Tesla electric truck, which includes the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Chevy Silverado EV, and Hummer EV. The Cybertruck accounted for nearly half of all sales in the segment, blowing its competition out of the water as Tesla races to ramp production and fill waiting orders. All other EV pickup truck sales from companies like Ford, Rivian, and GM combined totaled 5,546, according to S&P.
