When I was a kid, batman was the show to watch after school. I'm glad I lived in an era where people's private lives were respected. Hi Age of Vintage, how are you going? This is a fabulous insight into the life of Adam West. He was so good looking, & had the perfect physique to play the iconic role as Batman. He had a wonderful speaking voice & did a lot of voice over roles. It was a true honour to be asked to play a part in the series, & many famous people had a recurring role as one of his arch enemies. Otto Preminger who went on to be a famous director. Burgess Meredith, Vincent Price, Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin just to name a few. I think he was very self deprecating, & loved to camp thing's up a bit, & still keep a straight face & a stiff upper lip. I think most people somewhere along the line have watched the series or at least a few episodes. Really enjoyed this portrayal of Adam West, fantastic video from yourself as usual. Really appreciate you're really hard work. Love Love from Australia 🇦🇺📽🎬💛💙💚💖💜❤😍😍😊😊💋💋💋💋

I read West’s autobiography a few years ago and was surprised at how unflinching it was - wild, weird stories that have that outrageous ring of truth to them. A lot of this video’s material comes from there. I only have to *”think”* about Adam West having fun in the 1960s, and voila, I can pretty much “feel the fun moments”. Demographics figure in. I totally grew up with Adam West as a role model, whether I liked it or not (TV repeats and repeats the mantra), and I am sure that he gathered tremendous energy from these dalliances, which presumably helped fuel his performance in front of the camera as Batman.

I think Adam West did the best of what he was given to work with after the typecasting. He wasn't bitter, on the contrary he was grateful, he knew he was talented and took advantage of it. In the Sammy Davis Jr made for TV vehicle Poor Devil, West played the tyranical boss of Jack Klugman, a 'villain' he undoubtedly had some fun playing. And even with the 1-derful way Michael Keaton played the caped crusader, Adam West remains my favorite Batman.

I don't agree with what he was doing in his personal life, but after all his mother had traumatized him in every way. Even after knowing all the details about him, I still forgive him deeply. Plus, he had stopped living that wild life once he got married to Marcelle in 1970. They had a lasting relationship and they became a wonderful couple with beautiful children. So it doesn't really matter what Adam did in his past, it didn't continue into his future. He has been forgiven, and I still love him as Batman and as himself.

3 quick points. 1: Seeing this, I realize that the Mad Magazine satire "Bats-Man" had keen insight. "Gray Dickson" is using Bats-Cave surveillance on Jill St. John, only to be chided by Bats-Man, but then Bats-Man explains how their roles can be parlayed into dating lots of hot women. Mad was not just satire, at times it could be uncanny journalism. 2. Adam West conquered Mars. The "Outer Limits" episode "The Invisible Enemy" is a bit silly, puppets in a sandbox, but in the role of intrepid astronaut Chuck Merritt, West and his crew were able to defeat monsters and clear the Martian frontier. 3. While I'm happy that he was able to meet James Bond Girls like Jill St. John and Lana Wood, I wonder if he could have hooked up with Julie Newmar or Yvonne Craig. That would have been mythic.

Guess that's why he talked, like he was tired all the time... In 65-66, I had one of those white tee shirts, with the "Batman logo," on the front. I wore that shirt until it finally, 'gave up the Bat,' and my mom I think, tossed the rag. Heck no she didn't outright tell me that! She didn't want to deal with that drama! LOL I was about 5-6 years old and I remember when Batman first came onto TV, and Superman was replaced. I saw probably every season, every episode, and the Batman movie as well! My first halloween costume, was supposed to be 'Dracula.' But it had a cape and I put on my tee shirt, and I became "BATMAN!!" Well... Maybe Bat Brat! Well, what would you have wanted from a 6 year old in the 60s?

It doesn't matter to me how many times New Perry Mason's are generated by HBO; they can't replace the Raymond Burr Perry Mason's. Why am I a fan of Old Perry Mason? Because that version of Perry Mason which aired (1957-1964) He dealt with Emotional Intelligence & thinking outside of the box to solve problem's. So don't always settle for what's right in front of you like how Hamilton Burger always did.

Assuming he and Ward weren't exaggerating, all indications are West might have been quite unique, possessing an extremely rare, near-extinct, male capacity not necessitating a "down time" after each "quickie." He (Adam West), will someday (if somehow not today) be regarded as the best actor to own both Batman AND Bruce Wayne as a tongue in cheek intuitive performance, of understated brilliance. He will ALWAYS be the best "hip to be square" hero, that in no way delineated the material of entertainment and countered the over-the-top performances of guest villains. He was the one guy we could count on to get us back to inevitable victory, and humble sanity, of (ironic) normality, teaching his ward, Dick, life lessons of morality after each adventure was resolved by Bat cunning: tune in: "same Bat time, same Bat channel..." The Arch Enemies, as dazzling as their twisted dreams of criminal conquest were, ALWAYS tipped their hand in egotistical glee. If they REALLY got Batman and Robin out of their way, there really would be no more fun, having only Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'hara to contend with, which would have been no more than child's play. In the meantime, Adam West had fun and chased some tail in private whilst maintaining a heroic role model for the kids! Pretty amazing on ALL levels. What a brighter world he made for us mere citizens by playing it fun and campy. There's not enough of that today. Poor Aunt Harriet, could continue to socialize as long as Alfred kept the Batcave AND Wayne Manor wholesome. Alfred was the key sleeper character. Only HE had complete knowledge of reality, even beyond Batman himself, because he also knew the true dentity of Batgirl which was, ONLY shared with the audience itself! He WAS the fourth wall...

The character of Batman didn't have any superpowers but his Bruce Wayne alter ego could finance every crime fighting gadget to help the Dynamic Duo defeat Gothem City's eccentric Master Criminals.

Regarding your final statement, George Reeves as Superman came before Batman as a regular tv superhero

"I'm Batman" sounds better than "get your coat, you've pulled"

I loved that the tv Batman was so campy, like, doing the dance, the Batusi! Add the fact that his costume had eyebrows for no reason, who couldn't love this shlocky show?!!

Well, at least it wasn't 8 women and 6 dudes per night. In any case, he must have lubed his bat-pole. Thank goodness he wasn't gay Batman for then he wouldn't be Bruce Wayne, but instead Ben Dover.

We all know who was the -ahem-bigger man between Adam West and Burt Ward. Ward even wrote a book about his Robin character and the studios flattening the bulge

They told him there had been 18 different Tarzans. The show had three different actresses play Catwoman, 3 different play Mr. Freeze and they had two actors play Riddler and a Puzzler that was similar to the Riddler.

I used to pal around with singer Jody Reynolds back in the 80's in Palm Springs. He used to screw 5 women a night when he was on tours during his 'Endless Sleep' heyday. I asked him how in the world he could do that and he told me, "Easy - they line up at the door to your dressing room or hotel room and you just tell them to take a number."

He appeared in a SCI-FI movie called "ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS" as a live astronaut and a "ghost" too. It's one of those "campy" cult classics you just gotta see! The narrator iui s correct ADAM WEST was BATMAN to all.of us 60's kids and 70's too and is STILL seen in syndication. Only MICHAEL KEATON finally displaced him to a new generation in the movie reboot of the series.

In the wonderful movie 'The Young Philadelphians' (8:37), he played a homosexual groom that commits suicide because he cannot consummate his marriage.
