My late husband was a classmate and was good friends with Raquel's sister. I met her many years later, she was gracious, a bit aloof... But when I mentioned that my Uncle remembered seeing her when she toured Vietnam! She LIT UP!! She had me give her assistant my uncle's mailing address! She sent him a photo and a personal note. Very sweet!

When R. was appointed a GoodWill Ambassador the New York media ripped her and she left the mike crying. You and I can't really blame her for the visciousness out there for women as leaders, and unlike today, they didn't have a "Media Team" and large group of private security, etc. to get these clowns to BACK OFF.

@@frankpienkosky5688 Pretty much what I was eluding to. I don't disagree. Monroe's an Icon on Tshirts etc more so than RW, but then so's Charlie Manson, for that matter, which isn't what I was talking about. Not saying MM's negative, but obviously an Icon can be either. I was just talking hot chicks as opposed to their public image over the years. No question because of her association with the Ratpack, JFK, Bobby etc who passed her around like a Joint is more the "Icon". A 30yr old RW's just about as hot as they come in the conversation I'm having, which is the only one I'm concerned with practically speaking.

It was customary for powerful men in the movie industry to coerce young women to trade sex for a career in Hollywood. I wonder how Raquel Welch handled the inevitable sexual harassment. Did she always say no? Did it cost her roles for not playing the game, especially when she first started out? How did she handle these situations? I've never heard her address this issue, or even being asked the question.

I've watched Joan Collins (the British Open) and Jane Fonda (Hollywood Royalty) REMANUFACTURE their "reality" to adjust to the cancel culture and 2020 media. Made me almost throw up. I get a small SS check for my time in Hollywood when I was in school (early twenties). We'd try to "advise" young ladies our age and try to steer them to the correct photographers, agents. The place is full of "users" a notch above outright street pimps and con men. Looking at some of the films she did (100 Rifles) that were not MAJOR mainstream promotions but considered pretty good films today, she probably had to be aggressive to get the call.

Her maiden name is pronounced, "TAY-HAH-DUH". The house they lived in two blocks from the beach was in the town of La Jolla, pronounced, "LA-HOYA". I should know, I attended grade school there. Why they have these narrators who have no idea how to present a subject's name and/or place narrate these mini-docs never ceases to amaze me.

I walked her to a car full of teens after a Stones concert at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Ms. Welch told her child to mind her Ps and Qs. I walked her back to her car and found Ms. Welch to be delightful and charming. She drove off and I went back to handle a brawl. I wish I would have asked her for coffee. Me too shy. This was in mid 70s.

That was the Seinfeld episode called "The Summer of George" and was a parody of her reputed diva image - she was hilarious in that episode! My Mom dragged me to the movies to see "Kansas City Bomber" since she was a huge roller derby fan - Raquel was very good in it, doing many of her own stunts (she practiced for hours on end). Only other film I remember her in was a brief part in "Legally Blonde" - wish she were in the sequel. She seemed to me to be someone who wanted to be more than just another pretty face, very intelligent, accepted no BS and knew how to stand up for herself when necessary, possibly sometimes diva and sometimes kindly. May she RIP.

One of her co-stars, Donald Pleasance was born in my home tow, in Nottinghamshire... my Mum knew his Mum. One point of information: La Jolla, California is pronounced La Hoya, with a guttural ''H''; it's Mexican Spanish.

She was a personality, not an actress. Her talent was her physically stunning presence, which was enormous. Likely still is. She was not one to take any crap from anyone. Raquel Welch's birthday is September 5, 2022. She lived in Chicago, Illinois until she was 5. LaJolla is a very expensive area to live in today. I visited her childhood home in LaJolla and it is tiny. A friend showed me the house. His girlfriend lived across the street from Welch's House. Well, in a couple of days Raquel Welch will be 82. Her first husband was a Green Beret.
