In this video I will share my experiences as a live solo acoustic musician performing in NYC 4 years after Covid. How did the Covid lockdowns effect live music long term? What is life like as a musician in the post covid era.

I'm a Florida musician covid shut down was a terrible thing for a spell, But I did a lot of outside venues and that seemed to work for me. Kind of like busking. You probably could have made bank in NY with a busking rig. Anyway now I find the music Scene has come back even stronger. More venues opened up that offer live solo artist. And I'm noticing more people coming out of the woodwork with guitars. At times I'm having to turn down work dou to not wanting to work 7 days a week. I'm fully booked for this year already and that's not including privet events. I feel we are blessed. And as a community I find it rewarding that when I have to turn down a show I'm able to pass it on to another musician. Wishing you the best my musical brother. Love watching your videos.

Thanks for the excellent post. It’s nice to see that the uptrend is not just happening here in NY. I’m not sure how busking would have gone over during Covid as New York did not have a common sense approach to many issues during Covid in my opinion. I may have been accused of being a nazi if I tried to busk lol. But I definitely did online “gigs” and learned a good bit about the tech behind it as we all did. All in all it seems to have worked out. I’m thankful for that

I'm in Central West New South Wales, Australia. Obviously while our country was in lockdown during the first year of Covid, I had zero work. The Government paid a subsidy to people who lost their job because of Covid, so I was receiving that payment for some time to keep the rent paid. Four years on, the live music scene in my area is thriving, more so for solo and duo acts. I'm still charging basically the same rate as before 2020 but like your area, we seem to have more venues offering live music these days. I believe the local government offered financial incentives to live music venues to promote the entertainment industry. The influx of solo and duo acts could just be a current trend. I've been playing music in venues since 1990 and notice trends come and go. For a few years, bands will be the rage, then bands will die off and DJ's take the lions share of gigs. Then after a few years, solos and duos will start getting more bookings etc... just like music genres. Country music is big in my area because of Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen etc... but a few years ago it was top 50 pop stuff. Before that, everyone wanted to hear grunge or alt rock. Fads come and go, we just adjust.

Love hearing this. It pretty much lines up with what I am experiencing here in NY. Refreshing to see that although many things have come back “differently” live music seems to have gotten a boost. I wish you the best and thanks for taking the time to give such a full reply.
