When the serial killer David Berkowitz, who called himself Son of Sam, was arrested on Aug. 10, 1977, it seemed to mark the end of an era of terror that had gripped New York City for months. Beginning in the summer of 1976 and continuing into 1977, Berkowitz killed six people and wounded seven others, shooting them with a .44 caliber revolver.

I find it fascinating that we have access to all the documentation and reports about killers, like we know everything about them, their families, their feelings/resentment ...it's crazy how such private life turns public as soon as you do something bad

That sort of stuff is generally pursued as part of a criminal investigation against a person (which is public), and what isn't is part of documentary study and opined on.

Back in the middle to late 80s there was this woman who worked in a pharmacy near my house. I don't even know how David Berkowitz's name came up. She ended up telling me that she, "Went to high school with him, and that he was very quiet and nice." She told me that , "during the SOS k^11^ngs he'd walk his fellow female postal workers to their car so that he can protect them from the SOS." Not one person at that job had anything bad to say about him. There is an archive news video of the media talk to his coworkers. I will try to find the video and post it.

This frightened me to death as a kid hearing about "the son of sam" and the whole devil worship thing. He killed 6 and wounded 7. Today, we have shootings where 18 people are killed and we all forget about it in a week.

Why hasn't this Documentary talk about Sam Carr's Sons John and Michael Carr? Look at their photos and look at the sketches. Cecelia Davis, (lady with the dog) said, David Berkowitz, couldn't have been the sh@@+€£. He wouldn't make it all the way to Bay 17th and Shore Parkway, in time. On the night in Brooklyn, I believe his name was Billy Zane/Zano, said it wasn't DB. The sketch was the like of John Carr. That man was park where Stacey, and Robert, were parked. Billy , moved up so that Robert could pull in. These Documentaries, never put the whole story together.

I believe Berkowitz did some of the murders. But I think some of the others were done by Sam Car jr and his friend. It's also strange that both of them died soon after Berkowitz got caught. One committed "suicide" and the other was killed in a "accident". Very strange.

Agree. To think that anyone in 2023 still thinks Berkie acted with others is insane. Especially given the huge amount of evidence released just this past year not to mention him just admitting he totally made up the cult theory. Or more accurately put, Maury Terry made up the cult theory and he agreed to it under "intense pressure." @@thebodykeepsthescore2828

The conspiracy theory is that he didn't act on his own. There were other shooters. There are many connections to the Children and The Family, both satanic in nature. Also, the times of the crimes didn't always coincide with his movements. He couldn't be in two places at the same time. And his disappearing insanity? That was all an act to keep all eyes on him. Not for an insanity plea. Just like Manson, there's more to the story. If they had maybe looked into the familial backgrounds, I think they would have found the other shooters and the truth behind these murders.

This episode [at least] would've been waaay better, if 1of the NYC cops, reporters, etc., narrated it. And consulted local experts. Couldn't find any? There are tens of thousands in Manhattan alone.

I advise you to watch more documentaries about these people. Most of them lack empathie. The chemistry for compassion in on or another way. Some even say it themselves! And the dead are easily forgotten.... Everyone deserves a second chance, but these dark souls who are still alive somewhere in prison, should never have any interaction again with the outside world they wanted to destroy.
