I deleted my Facebook 8 years ago. It was pretty easy. Tik tok and Twitter never appealed to me, thankfully. I just recently decided to walk away from Instagram. Found myself comparing myself too much, wasting time, not being productive. The app just felt unauthentic. Fake people, fake friendships, fake happiness.

Great video! I deleted my final social media platform last month (Instagram). I haven’t been without social media since the MySpace days which was 17 years ago. I keep wondering to myself how different of a person I would be if I had never used social media in the first place all those years ago. Crazy to think about.

I guess we'll never really know - but honestly we're lucky to be in the last generation that will ever know what life before social media was like. So most kids/ people won't have that insight either, which is interesting to think about. Random fact - but my boyfriends uncle is raising his kids in Montreal without the internet. It's so fascinating to me. and these kids are awesome - they're wildly intelligent, critical thinkers, social, confident and just overall great people. Not an ounce of social anxiety.

@@HarmonieV so so true! i started streaming and making youtube videos for fun, and it would be cool to make it into a career but so there are so many amazing creators out there, i can't see my content ever taking off haha. even the aspects i enjoy of it don't really make me as happy lately either. like i love gaming and i love making friends, but it doesn't fulfill that creative desire that i've always had! i've recently realised what my true passions and goals are, and it's to be a concept artist / 3d artist for the entertainment industry, so i've been building up my portfolio to start applying. i wanted to do this pre-pandemic but lockdown really made me re-evaluate so much of my life and decisions, and recently i had that fire inside of me re-lit and i've been so excited to learn, grow and create. :o) little update- haven't made a tiktok/reel since i posted this and i feel so much happier! i decided to finally delete tiktok permanently and i was rewatching your video while downloading my tiktoks and deleting each video. :) i do make it a habit to cull out who i follow every few months and i always recommend that to people- try to unfollow as many people as you can!

I agree that I prefer the long form content of KZbin! It’s so much easier to moderate your consumption for that very reason. I learned something recently; if you delete your KZbin history, you can notice that the KZbin recommendations shift pretty quickly, which keeps your feed fresh and in line with what you’re currently into. 💕💕 Thank you for your video! 😊

_"Who tf is this and why do I care?"_ Literally me rn. A year ago, I was addicted to social media. Even Pinterest couldn't escape my need to consume content. I deleted my accounts on Instagram, Tiktok, and Twitter almost a year ago and I'm so much happier now. I've been off Pinterest for a while now but I deleted all the boards that weren't helping my mental health. I'm rarely on fb but my go to app is KZbin. I love self improvement videos, tarot readings, and music but I had a huge realization recently. I decided to experiment by turning on music on my YT Music app and it was okay until I got annoyed by the constant background music to my tasks of doing things around the house or browsing another app and then *IT HIT ME.* I don't exactly care for music but I'm sucked into this loop of never ending cycle of scrolling if there are people on the screen who either engage with you (as the consumer) or with another person/people in the video/podcast. I figured that I miss social interactions and that conversation within a video even made me feel as if I'm part of the conversation and then I'd go in and give my two cents as if someone actually cared for what I had to say. Me...someone amoungst a thousand, 10,000, or even a million people who comments on a video. No one would even know who I am. I noticed a shift in apps like Pinterest and Instagram because they're filled with ads now and although I can sorta skip past the ads on Pinterest, it's still a big issue and sometimes I feel like deleting it as well. Getting down to why we consume what we consume...it sad and eye opening but at least you start working towards a solution.

I’m actually considering some form of Digital minimalism on a more permanent basis. I sometimes go back-and-forth with Instagram and Facebook deleting it for a few months and then being back on it and then realizing that I’m not really in the best with mood and I’m constantly comparing myself to others. I also find that the content that even my friends post is super curated and it seems like everybody’s just doing the same shit. I’m like doesn’t is it get exhausting?! I’m exhausted just looking at it because I feel like I can’t post a photo or a story just looking like my everyday self. You’ve gotta have The right outfit and right hair and the right background and the right lighting…..It’s just all so much.

Good video. Grandma from South Africa . My favourite app is KZbin. I have learned so much from it. I love looking up gardening tips and cooking. It’s kinda nice to just ask myself what shal I type into search today Facebook is becoming an ugly place. It causes me much anxiety and I guess the only reason I have not left is because I have so much family and friends overseas that it’s good to keep track of. If it wasn’t for Facebook I don’t think I would hear anything much from them Being an old person and having lived most of my life without social media I don’t think I would be very bothered if it all came crashing down. I do get seriously annoyed at myself for wasting valuable time scrolling through nonsense though I love all your videos Harmonie. You bring much refreshing to my soul. You are practical, sensible and real. And I soooo loooove Canada, especially Vancouver where I spent 2 years of my life as a little girl. And when I posted content I found myself asking Why would anyone care about this? My goal is to spend more of my free time outside, reading, and listening to audiobooks. I also want to do some more writing and get back to being a in-practice guitar player, something I haven't been in 12 years.

I actually love instagram because I can follow inspiring people, helpful content and other professionals in my work field (I'm a dietetics student). But, I also need to be very selective when following people and, from time to time, unfollow some accounts. I hate facebook and other platforms, for me instagram has everything I need social media wise but I need to be very mindful using it and forget about the ads ahah. But my favourite platform is youtube. I learn so much from youtube, I get inspired, I learn new things, it broadens my horizons, I can see the lives of other people, I even used youtube to study for some college exams and I've passed some subjects because of it. I've been doing my best to prune addictive behaviors out of my life. The biggest thing is trying to avoid things with "infinite scrolls". There's a Chrome extension I used called "Undistracted" that blocks KZbin's recommendation algorithms on the right side of the page. It allows me to just watch one or two videos without going down a rabbit hole following a chain of recommendations. Additionally, it can hide Twitter timelines on my browser, so when I open Twitter, I only see general notifications and DM notifications. This keeps me only checking important things and prevents scrolling.

I never had a a Tik Tok to begin with. I instantly saw what it did to my brother and my friends and didn’t want to be a zombie like that. I still use instagram tho, although not religiously.

Those dopamine receptors get exhausted. Don’t spend your expressions on low quality pursuits. If you’re not curating your own brand, who’s brand are you curating?

I’m sooo glad that Instagram is blocked in my country (not for good reason honestly). At first, I used VPN to log in to my account, but then I go really tired of it.

I never had Twitter, IG, Snapchat or Tiktok. I don't own a TV or Netflix subscription. But I can be so bad for FB (haha boomer!) and KZbin. KZbin is good though because I watch sermons.

Deleted Twitter years ago, absolute shit. Never had TikTok, think it's by far the worst platform out there for social media and quite frankly filled with idiots. Deleted Instagram and FB for about 6 months. Was tough the first month but then I realised I'm not any worse off without social media. You realise the irony of social media where it makes people more anti-social. Realised how bad social media is and they're literally designed for you to seek attention and validation, whether it's consciously or subconsciously. I was guilty of it, after I looked back and reflected. Life's better without it, no intention of going back on it, at least for my personal accounts. At most, I'll have a business account if need be.

To quit social media is the best thing you can do!!! Because there is absolutely nothing social about social media. The word social media is totally misleading. What is supposed to be social about it?
@HarmonieV Жыл бұрын
agreedm i think it started out as a social concept but has strayed a loooooooong way from that

I use Facebook and Instagram STRICTLY for family and friends. I've had both since I was 14. Although when it comes to Tiktok, I feel a need to scroll for at least 8 hours.

Facebook sucks. 1. Bad User Interface 2. Untrustworthy App 3. Keeps logging me out of my crap.

Tiktok Sucks. 1. Addictive. 2. Wastes Valuable Time. 3. I Feel Dumber Afterwards. 4. (thought) Why Do I Care What Others Think.

Instead of just deleting the Tiktok app, I deleted my account so I couldn't just redownload it and continue scrolling.

You don’t miss out on anything because social media doesn’t have anything valuable for the most part. Books and real conversations are a much better source nevertheless:)
