I remember seeing the stickers everywhere in Orange County. They created a buzz in the so cal scene very quickly. They became good friends with bigger bands in the scene and they had a plan, and kept to it. They had a big vision, and didn't stop until they achieved it. Plus they write really good music.

Honestly their crazy looks helped get me into them. I was all about guitar already, then they had a feature on a show called "Loaded" back when Fuse was an amazing channel, where they played as many music videos as they can in 30 minutes( which for A7x that was like 3 or 4 videos tops). I kept seeing them here and there on Fuse and MTV and I was really curious as to why they dressed like that, and their videos were wild. I taped that episode of "Loaded" and Beast and The Harlot hooked me instantly. I had never heard people play guitars like that before.

Funny story, I heard Avenged Sevenfold for a first time on local karaoke, about year and a half ago. The song was "A Little Piece of Heaven", and the guy who sang it was pretty dope. Pretty much, I started listening to them more. So, few days ago, I decided to play old game that I used to love, Need for Speed Pro Street. I played this game a lot as a child. So, I was 30 minutes in, when I heard familiar tune. That's how I realised their first song, I heard was "Almost Easy", and it was around 10 years ago... I didn't said it'll be funny to you, it makes me laugh tho

I would love to see an hour long video. They are far and away my favorite band after I rediscovered them and metal in general last year. Listened to The Stage front to back while waiting for a connecting flight on a whim and was blown away (especially Brooks' drumming. Monster is so apt to describe him). I have listened to them more than anyone since and am not close to tiring. I haven't been able to find another band that clicks in a way that Avenged does for me from the composition (wonderfully cheesy dual guitars, great riffing, the harmonizing vocals, complexity without being overwrought), their talent across the board, and sound and that goes from Waking the Fallen through The Stage. Even Hail to the King is awesome because it's Avenged does GnR, Metallica, some Dio, etc, but it still sounds like them. I am eagerly anticipating the next record and tour and ready to travel a long way to see them live again like I first did back in December 2007.

A7X has been my favorite band since I was in middle school because of their massive range of sounds (like how one song can seem to shift through several different genres and it actually works?!) and the insane level of skill each of them have. And Matt Shadows’ voice was always so fucking cool (rip his vocal cords, I’m glad he got medical treatment and is doing a shit ton of vocal training to get back up and running). I first heard “Scream” on the radio from the Tyler Texas rock station and that was it for me, I had literally never heard anything like that. They had occasionally played something nice and hard like Korn or Slipknot, but that one song was hard and harsh and so well orchestrated and the guitar solo had me shook. Nobody sounded like that at the time, and the radio was the only access I had to music back then. Like, I have a metric fuckton of other metal and hard rock bands that I absolutely love, but for whatever reason, A7X is still my #1. I used to listen to their songs (that I pirated from the interwebs and put on a janky MP3 player I got for Christmas) on the 2-hour bus ride to/from school, and it made those hours bearable. I could forget the mind-numbing cold or the swampy humidity or the bus seats sliding around bc they had come loose or the lack of a suspension system on that shitty bus.

While I was young when City of Evil came out, I was just getting into games by playing Madden 06 when I heard for the first time Bat Country (as well as BFMV 4 Words), and that introduced a whole world into instruments and music in general. Just to add in my experience. I first heard Avenged Sevenfold in SSX On Tour in 2005. Bat Country from City of Evil (2005) was featured as one of the main theme songs alongside Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden. I was only 10, but thoroughly enjoyed both songs. Fast forward six years to 2011. I was a sophomore in high school and played football and water polo. Along with my best friend who was the absolute best baseball player I’ve ever seen, we somehow normalized bands like Avenged Sevenfold into the “popular” music that all us jocks and preppy kids listened to. It started to spread and really united the different cliques and social groups together, because, if you had nothing else in common, you could at least be excited for the next a7x record. A lot of people do not miss their high school years, but I do. It was probably the most unity and peace I’ve ever experienced in a continuous social setting and evolution, all thanks to Avenged Sevenfold and Kid Cudi. As I grew up and became an adult in their mid-20s, I’ve gravitated towards The Weeknd, Orville Peck, Trivium, Rammstein, Creedance Clearwater Revival, etc, but Avenged Sevenfold has always had a special place in my heart and mind. A bit off the the beer while typing this, but I just wanted to say something I guess.

His mother was very competitive and was looking for threatening songs for his team to play at games. She narrowed her choices down to Hail to the King and This Means War. About 6 months later I got invited to a rock festival to see bands I've never heard of and it just so happened that they were headlining. That performance really shaped my perspective on music as I wasn't too big into music before and it helped me really appreciate the whole genre. second heartbeat was the first song I heard from them and is still my favorite song from them. reminded me a lot of the sound me and my friend were doing at the time, just a hell of a lot better🤣

Brother, you hit all the marks, and then some! I fell inlove with this band back in 2008 when I heard "Scream" for rhe first time. The sound was unlike anything I had heard. And after looking into them and listening for a bit, I found myself coming out of my shell and finding who I was as a person. Not only do they make, but they helped me have the confidence to become who I wanted to be. That's why they are my top band. I could go on and on in this comment about them, but you did most of it for me. BTW I'd gladly watch an hour long video on them, from their clothing lines, to Syn's guitar equipment and his own amps he had for a short time, to how Matt changed his voice because HE wanted too, and all the guys that played bass for them before Johnny became official.

I love their City of Evil era looks. Synyster Gates is one of the few people who could rock a fedora.

That was a good album. A good balance of melody and metalcore

@@Rose.Of.Hizaki melodic metalcore; All That Remains or Killswitch Engage style! Seriously, I hear a little bit of resemblance between The Fall of Ideals and Waking the Fallen.

Adding to the "fake it til you make it" bit. Before they even really blew up with City of Evil, Syn and Zacky already had these crazy recognizable custom guitars showing up in their videos which made them look even more legit

Thank you for this! I knew a7x since 2007, been a fan since then but take a quite long break after Jimmy passed away (kinda a hard blow for a quite young me back then). Looking back and looking closely now, I think what's really pulling me back to their music is the complexity and the overall song writing style. I can feel the thoughts and feelings they poured into creating their own sound, style, and story. A7x is perfect for both jocks and nerds. I'm kinda nerd of this side. So I'm definitely agree with you about what makes them popular is the fact they created their music however they wanted it would sound like. Plus, I like how they're great people in general and they love their fans. They appreciate their fans so much so it feels really nice to support them.

I was 12 when I heard A7X back in 03 when Waking the Fallen first came out and the first songs I heard were Clairvoyant Disease and I wont see you tonight part 1. I was a guitar geek and already playing alot and when I heard them I fell in love with their music and everything about it and their following. You pretty much nailed it man it would be cool to see you do a part 2 one day and go further into it.

The guitar solo in The Wicked End is still one of my favorites. One of my friends brother’s gave us a ride to his house in 2007 and played the self titled album and I instantly fell in love with them. Learned their songs on guitar, saw them in Little Rock after the Rev died, I was obsessed for a while hahaha they’re a great band

I know that this really has nothing to do with A7X, but I just want to give a huge thanks to this guy called "NateWantsToBattle". Growing up and being in love with games such as FNaF and hearing these songs that were full on metal, it made me want to branch out more. My brother got me Black Ops 2 for my birthday and when I completed the campaign and saw that outro, I immediately went to my brother and asked him who that band was. I think if it wasn't for NWTB, I wouldn't have fell in love with A7X, SOAD, Slipknot, Metallica, and all these other metal bands.

I love punk. I love metal. I love it when bands mix the 2 genres together. So when my mum heard Overrated Sevenfold she thought I would love them. She was not correct on that on. But somewhere in that story is why they got so big.

They all worked endlessly, Mat used to study different vocalist and learned how to sing through endless practice, Jimmy was an animal on drums, Brian also studied guitar in school and every member pushed their limits to grow together. They always follow what they want to do and their fan base is insane and has been from the start. They definitely deserve it 🤘🏼 RIP Jimmy, good video to man

This was absolutely perfect. I agree 💯. I've been a die hard a7x fan for twenty years and no matter what I always will be. Not only because of their musical abilities but because of the way they love their fans and you can tell they genuinely love their fans. I will be an avenged sevenfold fan until the day I die. They make me ecstatic no matter the song I'm listening to. One of if not THE best bands ever.

I have never been much of an Avenged fan (with the exception of Seize the Day), but the effort they've put in over the course of their career earns them a lot of respect. This also goes for the amount of talent that has always been so damn obvious, even if my first exposure to them did make me think "they're trying to be Guns N Roses". And I found this video - and series in general - really interesting because it makes me look at them in ways I wouldn't normally consider.

Finn can you do a video about Guitar Hero and Rock Band's influence on getting kids into different bands and music? I know for me anytime I hear a song that also happened to be in those games is really nostalgic for me cuz I immediately associate it with those games.
