@@jaretco6423 they never had a “grudge” just a lot of the games just weren’t that good back then. Even then, sonic adventure 2 and generations both got over a 7. Sonic adventure got a low score in 1999, but I think it evens it out when sonic pocket adventure got a 10/10 which was def biased. Unleashed was super unfair I will give you that but that guy who did review that game has been fired for over a decade so you can’t really use him to represent ign when he got fired for probably being a poor representation.

Ok, honestly, people are taking the scores too seriously, like, it's IGN, this are the same people who gave OG Mario 3D World a score of 9 but then gave the switch version (which came with extra content in the form of Bowser's Fury) a 7. Like, how is ,what is basically, the same game with additional content get an even lower score? Even assuming Bowser's Fury was bad, which it very much isn't, how does that diminish the quality of the base game? Where's the logic there?!

Or that infamous review of 4.9 on Explorers of Sky when time and darkness got 5.6. That review is still getting salty comments to this day, that game still has an active enough fanbase to have it's own romhacking tools made for it. you know what they say, you can't spell ignorant without IGN.

Yeah I'm not sure why people are freaking out about it now, this is just to be expected with IGN at this point, their reviewers have wildly different scoring criteria and are often unfair about how they score things. Because it seems like they don't have more than 1 person working on the review score, which they absolutely should have someone else reading it, because some of their people are way to harsh or way too praiseworthy of every single game they review. They should at the very least have one other person questioning some choices the person who is making the review makes, saying "is this really a fair criticism or compliment?", or "should this one aspect really affect the score to this extent?"

Honestly if the reviewer for Spraking Zero had been open about how much he played the game then the backlash for that review wouldn't have been so bad. But the game literally had an easy mode for them for the bosses and he even admitted to not even playing some of the game modes yet still went to say they were bad.

Disclaimer: Please know that my thoughts come from a wildly incomplete playthrough of Brothership ( just past first major lighthouse), so what's said in my comment is likely to change. To me, I imagine IGN was just too dumb to remember that Brothership and Shadow Generations are aiming for very different kinds of experiences, probably with different target audiences, so their priorities weren't on the same footing. I feel both dev teams did a solid job polishing the minute "game feel" that each game needed for a firm foundation, then went back and made sure everything else had a good enough quality to maintain player engagement and a well rounded experience.

I've seen countless reviews of Brothership and I find the negative comments on pace to be ridiculous. I've just cleared lottacoin island and the pace has been spot on. Bosses are unique and spread out, and the game keeps feeling fresh with side quests which feel deliberate and manageable, not a slog like others would have you assuming.

Seeing as Brothership is the first (proper) new Mario and Luigi game we got in a while I think that the game being beginner friendly is good because some of if not most of the people buying this game seeing as it’s on the second best selling console ever are new players Also coming from someone who’s first Mario and Luigi game was partners in time because I like 6-7 it definitely doesn’t take it’s story as serious or dark but it’s still a very fun game with fresh mechanics

I guess the disappointed comes in from not meeting quality standards of the other entries. But I only played Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story. And that game is arguably among the best in the series. I’m sure the guy has enough fan love knowledge, and just being super honest about his experience. And I completely agree with your points. Me personally the only reason you should play Sonic x shadow generations is for the shadow campaign, so I recommend getting it on discount. the sonic campaign is horrible is the worst remaster I’ve seen, I much rather play the original on my pc, which I still do, but is a shame that that they had to ruin the sonic’s campaign.😔

My biggest issue wit the game is the fact it’s so damn pathetic the best sonic game since base gens is sonic gens. The remaster is pathetic, hardly changing anything or fixing/polishing anything, but the bar is so low for ST ports that it’s a blessing it actually is functioning. Still, absolutely pathetic, but the game is still great to this day

It's about time a Sonic game got a higher review score than a Mario game! Sonic has gotten so much hate while Mario has gotten so much praise. I can't remember the last time a 3D Sonic game got a 9 on IGN (I'm saying 3D b/c I'm sure Mania got a 9). So, as a major Sonic Fan and a casual Mario fan (only like the 3D Super Mario Collect-a-thons (64, Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and Odyssey)) this makes me sooooooo happy! Just finished Shadow Generations Saturday night! I loved it! Even teared up a little at the end. 😢

Idk about the brothership, I heard that some people don't like it because of the slow pacing, how long it takes to get New mechanics, And especially the worst idea ever, is having a time limit of your side quests, By that I mean you have to literally do all the side quests at the end of the game, All at the same time, just for you to go to the next level, That is the worst decision-making of all time, People may ask "Why is it bad? Isn't the idea of repayability?" And it's like, Yes, but also no at all, It's hard to explain, but I recommend searching it up the criticisms, you'll get the idea

Me personally I think people need to stop being so pressed over reviews and remember that most people have opinions and personal preferences. If you personally like a game that got a bad review from one publication who cares, then enjoy the game and play it. Another thing people should take note too, I've watched reviews that praise a game n says that it's really good, but what they say and how they describe the game I can tell I probably wouldn't like it and it's not for me. I'm not going to get buthurt over it as art is opinion based. Visa versa I've also heard people discredit a game I like, people have preferences for what they like and look for in games thats why there are different genres and even within the same genres games can vary a lot. I haven't played octopath traveler (1 or 2) dispite all the praise it gets and even though I like RPG's because I don't particular like the art/graphics that it has.
