I recently read, that they use Disneysabers nowadays. Also called lasersword. These could indeed cut, burn or melt many materials including wood, rock and metal, but are basically harmless to badly written main characters. Not to be confused with lightsabers. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age. Sometimes you can even hear the difference clearly ☝️ 😉

Yeah, and if you're referring to the jedi dying in a prior episode, 1: several of them were padawans (and this was focused on), 2: a bunch of jedi died to General Grievous or a bunch of bugs and droids. they're not invincible and it's well known that not every jedi is on the level or anywhere near the likes of Obi wan, Anakin, or Mace Windu. At the time there were hundreds of jedi, and the few wisest or most skilled were on the council, which even they still fell.

George Lucas lightsabers. Hot, fast moving but liable to over-swing, can melt through reinforced blast doors, amputate, cauterise but still need full immersion treatments for even limb damage, basically un stoppable except for another saber or slowed by force shields (slow blade penetrates the shield). Basically a plasma chainsaw/gyro with an attitude so casuals we’re likely to badly injure themselves. Disney wiggle/sabres: usable by anyone and anything. Can only “poke holes” in things but you can’t see through the hole. Getting SLOW stabbed in the chest can be recovered from in under a day, no prosthetics. No decapitations or amputations. Basically immobile when In proximity to a main character, stuntmen will literally stand still for 5-10 second while you screw up your choreography then glanced your own blade across their impervious armour. Bounces off EVERYTHING. Heavy, slow, used like a baseball bat despite never being allowed to cut anything except robots. Basically peered and controlled by magic as they perform moves only possible due to badly planned CGi. Vulnerable to basically every weapon in existence except for mook-troops who can’t aim nor insist on shooting one by one.
