When I was a kid we had an old broken down beetle sitting on our property for years until it got sold off. After watching this I can't tell you how disappointed I am that my parents did that. Would have loved to see it converted and then painted up to look like Herbie. Jump off the line of any red light just like the movie.

The acid test is to have two classics - same condition, same colour, same interior etc., but one has a restored engine and the other one is electric. I predict that the engine one would bring more pleasure but would only be driven very occasionally. The electric one would become the daily driver and ultimately the wife would force the sale of the ICE one due to lack of use.

@@dukeallen432 I think the point is that electric vehicles are really convenient, cheap to run and effortless to drive. They'll win the day on daily driving (of that I have no doubt) but the 'fun factor' won't be the same. To be honest I've lost the fun factor with modern internal combustion cars. Give me a 60's lotus elan sprint any day as my weekend playmobile.

I daily drive my classic. To real car enthusiasts and drivers, electric will never be the way, because we know it's not about speed, power or convenience. It's about sensation, how it feels, how it sounds, the power curve of an ICE, "tinkering" with your dizzy and carb. My classic daily only has about 60-70 bhp in it at the moment, but RWD and 500kg, you're not going to have more fun in anything else

Good on ya, Brewer. EV v ICE ? Naah - variety is the Spice of Life. As long as a million or two classic "combustibles" are preserved and available to hire worldwide for a century or two, we'll all be happy. And Jeez - if you don't like the serene, de-stressing, Zen-like tranquility of EVs(or of whisper-quiet Rolls Royces..) just turn up the volume of your surround-sound, bass-boosting in-car audio system - to 11 if need be.

They won't be lost by putting in an electric motor - they will be given a new lease of life. They will be faster, more fun and more reliable. EVs have around 20 moving parts versus around 2000 moving parts in an internal combustion engine (ICE). If you drive an EV you will never want to drive anything else.

@@evolution9774 Unfortunately, the way Tesla did their drive unit, no you can't. If you were dealing with a DC motor and a ramp-up circuit, you could install a 'cassette' type sequential transmission. It would, by the way, also increase the range a bit, since you wouldn't have to run the motor at top RPMs to maintain higher speeds. But you wouldn't have the drag strip queen stupid acceleration.

For me no, No way. Keep saying the customer will drive their classic more? How?? Put your foot down as one does with a classic car, 80 miles and the battery is flat.... Good luck with that! I'll get involved when 1 they are affordable for working guys. 2 they can do 300 miles between charges and do 70 mph constantly. The technology is not there yet, don't kid yourself be a long while before you bully me out of my V8 Supercharged Range Rover 10 mpg Around town... Love it

LOL 80miles, you are soo wrong. Easily could do a Lead Foot 200 mile conversion build in anything that previously had a V8. 200mile driven hard is more than enough for most Classic Car usage.

This technology did not exist. BMS Managed volatile cells was only invented in the 1990s. Nothing like Passive Deep Cycle Batteries. It's basically babysitting a battery pack which wants to go on fire. Yet somehow it works great and is very safe. It was only in recent time we could build these Brutish Monster BEVs.

I used to be anti EV but now if i had money I'd love to have a old classic car converted to electric with more power and without all the fuel motor issues. And it's more and more people. So i think maybe the value doesn't go down.
