What do most cops think about Internal Affairs? Is it as hateful of a view as police shows portray?
@CodeMasterPlays7 жыл бұрын
good question
@thehumphreys64947 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, not at all. I am close with the Internal Affairs. If you're a bad apple then they would probably be seen as something negative but if your doing your job correctly then you have nothing to worry about.
@ForgottenRebel777 жыл бұрын
idk about hateful. But to put it in perspective, on /r/ProtectAndServe any "Do police officers do X?" question is automatically assumed to be an IA puppet account. Im sure some of it is tongue in cheek though.
@officer4017 жыл бұрын
It's a love hate relationship. Usually IA officers are former patrol sergeants or even more commonly, Criminal Investigation sergeants. They're usually volun-told to do IA, not by choice. So, most officers like them as a person, but don't want to be in their office if they don't need to be.
@darrenwilson15767 жыл бұрын
officer401 More of a hate relationship in my experience. IA is usually too nosy about stuff. It seems they try too look for reasons too get people into trouble

I saw a cop driving erratically once and called 911. At the time, the idea that he might have been drunk didn't enter mu mind. I was worried he had some kind of medical issue and needed help, and I said as much to the dispatcher. It turned out he WAS drunk, quite drunk in fact I think he blew a .20 or something, which at the time was double the limit. I felt kind of bad about losing the guy's job for him, but then he was out there drinking and driving.

Thanks for posting this! Very helpful, I called about an officer going 75 in a 45 with no light. His supervisor called me and said thank you for the tip and asked me to wait in the area for another officer to come so I could write it down. The other officer and the initial officer who I called on showed up and yelled at me for 20 minutes, asking for my license and insurance like I was getting a ticket. They proceeded to curse and call me all sorts of names while I was trying to write my statement. Finally I just got so irritated I left without finishing the statement. Good to know there are still people who appreciate accountability. Thank you.

Hey Officer101! I am just reposting this question here... Not sure if you seen it. Hey Officer401, I just have couple of questions that I wanted to ask a cop but just didn't get a chance too:(edit: good thing I still didn't encounter a cop after such long time xP) 1.What happens if you see a person driving Tesla and reading a book. You pull him over and give a ticket? 2. What happens if a person is driving Tesla but his hands are off the wheel, but they are just beneath it. You pull him over? 3. Do you have any briefings regarding new technology like that? We all know we can't escape it and I just wanted to know what cops think and required to do in these situations. With the model 3 widely spreading I am sure we will have lots of Tesla+Cops KZbin videos and probably even new laws put in place/changed to increase safety.
@OverStyle7 жыл бұрын
Michael Sullivan Sure... We can add that to the list...
@thehumphreys64947 жыл бұрын
It depends on a few factors. If you can prove that their intent was to drive the vehicle once finished then that could be considered DUI. If the vehicle is off and you can not prove intent then it would just be possession of an open container while in a vehicle, which is not an arrestable offence in the state of Florida, just a citation and no it is not probable cause to search a vehicle.

I wouldn't complain about an officer texting and driving. They might be talking to someone who is thinking about suicide. and they were on route to that person. judging the situation correctly is better than whether or not I think they are doing their job right or wrong.
@jschackmann27 жыл бұрын
jen Barrett well that could happen but would dispatch did that for him
@KnKsk87 жыл бұрын
jen Barrett regardless that is unsafe to drive and text, if it's an emergency stop at the side of the road and/or speed over to the individuals house with the sirens on.
@thehumphreys64947 жыл бұрын
jen Barrett that is possible. In the state of Florida, there is a course officers can take which can certify you in critical incidence. If you are certified then you will be sent to calls with people in distress or suicidal. I have witnessed an officer get patched through to their work cell phone from the dispatch so the officer could be placed on the line with the subject. During this time, the officer was enroute to their location.
@DavidJohnson-mo7fq7 жыл бұрын
jen Barrett nah man, that's what we do as dispatchers, cops don't talk or text 911 callers unless they're trying to find them, and even then they usually ask dispatch to do that too.
@jenbarrett89667 жыл бұрын
This is just a simple scenario that I came up with on the fly. I do appreciate everyone's comments. I am a firm believer that unless you have done a particular job its hard to know how to think and react to the day to day grind. And I will be the first to say I don't know what it is like to be a police officer. I don't know any personally. But I do know that if I call 911 they will be there and help. Hope everyone stays safe.

@jamespurks16947 жыл бұрын
NightmareDeathDealer I may not have read your text right, but when I was a medic, you responded to a call code 3 (lights and siren) and transported to ER code 3. If it was code 1, no lights or siren, it meant the person was DOA (dead on arrival).
@KINDERGARTEN-COP7 жыл бұрын
NightmareDeathDealer in Georgia its called code 2 . You do it to get thru an intersection quickly, using due regard for the traffic and public. You turn on lights and sirens to get thru then turn em off. Going to an emergency , not life threatening, but you need to get some units for a big argument turning into fight type thing. So lets not waste folks time on officers doing their job running call to call . Now if an officer is driving reckless without lights and sirens, then call
@Nightmaredeathdealer7 жыл бұрын

@southjerseysound73406 жыл бұрын
Deputy Midnight true and I too am exempt from the law. But texting is just dangerous and there's no excuse when we've got voice to text now. One last point is a on duty officer recently plowed into a school bus stop hitting 3 kids while trapping one underneath his car. Luckily I was going to another call at the time. Because I was called to assist with my wrecker to hoist the car off of the 11 year old boy. I don't know how he survived because his leg and foot were completely wrapped around the drive shaft and I had to lift the car while ems and fire cut the driveshaft to get him free. By some miracle Cooper's trauma unit was able to put his leg back together. But we thought for sure his leg was gone because of how tight and long the tourniquet was on him. Needless to say the life flight saved his life. But it could've easily been prevented altogether.

I have a few questions that I rather not ask around my own department. 1. I work nights in a small county in the south, what did you do on really slow, quiet nights to stay awake? 2. How would you handle a "corrupt" or 'Bad" cop? Someone not doing their job or doing it the wrong way. 3. We have a no social media policy. No pictures/videos of ourselves or other deputies in uniform or with department attire on can be posted to any social media site, I received a write up for posting 1 picture of me and my kids on Halloween last year before I went in and someone seen it and reported me. What would you have done? And how could we go about a policy change?

Our department only keeps contracts on our vehicles with 24 hour turn around windows with general maintenance.

Dude, I'm exactly the same with dropping off my car for service. I'm 170 miles overdue as I watch this video and I haven't even scheduled an appointment yet. Such a pain in the ass moving all the patrol equipment and SWAT equipment into a loaner vehicle
