Nice graphics towards the end explaining the operation and the materials used. It should be noted that the Parachute Valve was invented by American Tracy Barnes in the late 60's. He gave it to the public domain (vs patenting) and was recognized by the Queen of England for this important safety contribution to LTA aviation.

Very good point, I was at a historic inflation day for the British balloon museum and library the other day and they had a number of pre-parachute era balloons on display (side dump panels and velcro rips) so will be revisiting the subject in the not too distant future)
