I love the way you give your birds love, attention, and choices!! My birds actually hate spray bottles.. among other things... even when I'm spraying my own hair same for hair dryers!! My boy rather gave his bath in a bowl, my girl the shower! They are Sun Conures siblings, adopted at the same time! Personalities vary so much! She loves to snuggle with a towel, preferably a warm one he prefers to shake like a puppy!! You'll definitely know if they love or hate something!! They both will do this in the kitchen sink in a bowl we hold but much prefer to be right th r te in the shower.. fave of all is bathing on our shoulders! They have a perch in a double walk in shower where they sit and just hang out with us, they will get excited when they want a turn, or simply land on one of us. If you try the shoulder put down a wash cloth first, or offer after they fly over, as your skin can be slippery! Mine love baths just before noon, but take them as late as about 5 pm in summer... I'm in Florida so rarely is too cold. Though my boy has woken up in the cool winters morning and hops into his fresh water dish!! He's crazy!!! I turn the heat on, or up give him towels to snuggle up to.. but often he then sun's himself in a nice morning sun window..

My Cockatiel LOVES baths. I have to change her water multiple times a day during the summer. Her favorite time for a bath was when I was putting fresh water in she would hop in her dish and splash around, but ONLY if I was holding it. She also enjoys the spray bottle.

Hey Marlene, I have a lot of plants to mist. I use a pressurized spray bottle rather than a regular spray bottle. I can adjust the nozzle down to a super fine mist. And, my hand doesn't get tired. For you, if you only fill it half full w water, the shower should be continuous until the water is nearly gone. (When you are done, you relieve the pressure by turning the bottle upside down and spraying out air.) I think you and your birds would all enjoy this a lot, especially via how fine you can make the mist. I'm thinking of Jersey here. Here's one I found on Amazon: Solo 418-2L 2-Liter One-Hand Pressure Sprayer.

I've had several birds. Most like the shower. Some like bathing under a faucet in the sink. The smaller birds are the ones that like the bowl of water most. I've noticed that they will often play in the water until they're drenched. I always tried to avoid that.

it sucks how theres always conflicting opinions when it comes to parrot care. I've read that its fine to give your parrots regular baths in the winter as long as they have heat provided to keep themselves warm also parrots can not catch a cold- if their immune system has already been compromised by ABV or something then its possible that putting them in a cold environment after a bath can be especially risky and trigger an infection but no they wont catch a cold. In regards to feather aids, ive read that the best and only thing you should provide for baths is plain water although people have sworn that aloe baths have been great for their parrots while others say it makes the plucking worse. Anyway for my lil quaker, I give her a chance to take a bath 4-5 times/week and let her dry next to her uvb where its nice and warm for her, the regular baths really help loosen the pin feathers and reduce itching

Marlene, your videos are super helpful! I've been binge watching them for the past few days. I'm trying to rescue my first bird from a shelter, but I'm not sure what to look out for, especially since many shelter birds need extra attention and may have mental and physical health issues. I know there will be difficulties, but I'm not up for a HUGE challenge right away. What should I look out for? Any advice?
@MARLENEMCCOHEN8 жыл бұрын
+Carly Romenesko is hard to know because they ate all so different. I got Picasso from a shelter and he was so loving right away. The thing is that no matter what there may be a process, he may be shy or scared. I thibk the main thing to do is meet the bird and see if you feel enough for him to put the work in. The real thing that everyone should know is that our takes time, even my Vinny is still making developments today and is been years, same with rocky. If you treat them right and don't lock them up they will get Better and Better and tamer and tamer, so have patience. You may get lucky, he may be easy right away but most of the time you need a lot of patience. Sometimes just being near him and not expecting him to be living right away will need to be enough.
